Indeed, it's that good...

NP: Pallas - XXV

On my first run right now. Pretty aggressive sounding album. The new singer is very good. 8)

Teunis

Antimatter - Leaving Eden
Gazpacho - Missa Atropos
Millenium - Back After Years
'I will surrender my heart to the sky
Oh, our love doesn't end here, it lives forever on the wings of time'

Toto - Wings of time (Kingdom of Desire)

Dream Theater - metropolis

Might listen to it whilst working on the cross trainer at lunch time as well *horns*

The Butterfly Man

NP: Pallas - XXV

I can already say that this is very likely to end up as my favourite Pallas album. Like I said yesterday, there is a certain amount of aggression present throughout the whole album. At times you'll be listening to pure progmetal, just listen to the intro of the very first track for example. The album isn't that heavy all the way though, it's just very well balanced: There are enough new elements in the music to keep it fresh, yet there is also plenty of room for that 'trademark' Pallas-sound. Then there's of course the new singer. He shines and really adds to that 'freshness' I described earlier. Next to that I think he will attract a lot more fans for Pallas than Alan Reed did, because his voice (although I liked it) was pretty much an acquired taste and could potentially scare people away.

Did I already mention that I like this new album? ;)

Bupie

Hum, I think that I will give another try to Pallas after my disappointing encounter with The Sentinel.

PP Cheap Trick - Dream Police

Teunis, did you know that Steve Lukather, although uncredited, plays on the song Voices (which is not unforgettable, to be honest) ?

NP Kamelot - The Black Halo Considering how good this one is, I expect to be soon tempted by other Kamelot purchases. Any advice for my next move ?

funkster

Kamelot eh

Ghost Opera for me would be your next purchase

The Butterfly Man

In case anyone is interested:

JP: The Dear Hunter -  Act III: Life and Death

NP: Avenged Sevenfold - Nightmare

Up next: Between The Buried And Me - Colors

Chronologically, it makes sense  ;)

Tom, any idea or for you there is only one american prog metal band worth of interest ? ;D

By the way, did I already mention that my eldest son's first name is Tom. He is a bit younger than you, though  :)

Iggy

The free disc from an expensive magazine.

Nah it really isn't only DT that I listen to, far from that actually! :) But regarding Kamelot, in hindsight I didn't really like their Ghost Opera-album that much to be honest. Their latest release Poetry For The Poisoned is much more to my liking. I found the songs on Ghost Opera a bit 'samey', whereas the material on Poetry is more diverse. So I would suggest you check this album out first. Of course, it's still up to you... ;)

No you never mentioned that (or maybe you did and I just missed it), but that's nice. How old is he? :)

NP: Dream Theater - Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence

Yeah I know, I only realised I was listening to DT (again) after I wrote the first sentence of this post. But I'm really not listening to them all the time... :P

Nevermore - http://shattered-room.net/index.php?topic=1619.0
Thanks for the links. I still have to discover Nevermore but I am a bit reticent since I am not that much a fan of heavy/extreme stuff.

For Tom : my Tom is 12. It's a first name that has been developing in France for a few years. The more classic choice is Thomas.

NP Cheap Trick - Heaven Tonight

Precisely!
That's mine opinion about Ghost Opera as well.
Poetry is far more balanced than his predecessor.

I tried to explain that in the past, but thus far I wasn't really successful. ;D

Cause of Injury: Lack of Adhesive Ducks.

np> Kamelot - [The Black Halo (2005) #03] The Haunting (Somewhere In Time) (5:40)

Coincidentally, I've been listening to this album during the last week in the mornings and evenings while riding the bike to and from work. The Haunting is an absolute "earwig" -> on repeat. What a rocker.  *horns*
Arriving somewhere, but not here....

Thanks guys.

Ghost Opera doesn't get many rave reviews overall. On the contrary, I haven't read a single bad review about The Fourth Legacy. It seems too that I wouldn't go wrong with Karma or Epica. I think I will go for the speedy Legacy and the apparently quieter Poetry and its beautiful cover.

NP Avantasia - The Scarecrow

I am rather surprised that you like Kamelot and not Avantasia. A song like Twisted Minds could easily figure on The Black Halo. And I don't say that because Roy Khan sings on it  ;D

No, but he played on so many albums .... impossible to know them all ;).

Steve Lukather - All's Well That Ends Well  :D
Seventh Wonder - Mercy Falls  *horns*

Hey, great to see so much activity in the Room  8)

Yeah, I'm also looking forward to hearing the new Pallas. Thanx for the extensive review, Tom  :)

Indeed, it's that good...

I agree, Tom, Radiance's The Burning Sun is formidable !!!

JP  Killswitch Engage:  Self-titled  (2009)

Hm, somehow these guys don't really grip me. It sounds OK, just rather bland  :-\

Anyone into this band ?

Needed this:

NP  KoK:  Kolossus  *horns*

Kolossus is probably easier to get into than Reptilian, cuz it's more rocky, while Reptilian is more extreme metal.

Both take a lotta time tho, and both are some of the most amazing music I'v heard lately !

Guess I'm still the only Kalessin listener in the Room.

Interestingly their Eurovision appearance and the documentary where they climb the peak made'm a household name in Norway. Kinda topsy-turvy: One of the most demanding progmetal bands burns thru to the public.

Altho Pain of Salvation appeared in the Swedish Eurovision, they didnt at all gain as much attention there as KoK did in Norway, I guess in part cuz PoS's song wasnt as catchy as KoK's.

I have the impression that the Norwegians as a population are currently the most musically progressive in the world  8)

Smashing album

I take it you mean "Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory" aka Scenes aka SFAM.

It's Tom's and my fave DT-album  *horns*

So Funky, how about soon giving KoK a run. I'm sure you'l go for'm. Both Reptilian and Kolossus are awesome.

Just don't tell your family that you want some KoK  ;D

I otoh will soon get Enslaved's Axioma Ethica Odini. It's gotten highly praised in all the music sites that I frequent, and seems to have a bit the same mood as KoK .....  8)

It's easy, Bups: Kamelot are (very much) prog, and Avantasia aint.

Avantasia is stuff we'v heard a million times before, while Kamelot take us around a bend all the time - and that's what prog is about  ;)

But one should also get beyond that, cuz there is sooooo much great music around these days - and I know that you'r aware of that, Tom  8)
