Actually, the right word for Rob is 'Bi'. ;)

He designates himself "gay" now, Mad.

NP   Lana Lane  &  Erik Norlander:  Secrets Of Astrology  *horns*

There's been a lotta talk in the Room about groups with woman singers. I agree that most such acts fall short of the "man's world". (E.g. Lacuna Coil I find a monotonous drone.)

Otoh Lana Lane's singing is gripping - powerful, beautiful and precise - there's a lotta melody and variation in her and Erik's music, the instrumentalists do exciting stuff, and even the lyrics are, if not quite philosophical, very poetic - so I must recommend this album warmly  ;)

Else there's Caamora She, Eleven, Once And Future King  *horns*  - and of course, our beloved Céline  :)

I guess one man's music is another's monotonous drone.  I find Lacuna Coil anything but monotonous.  They do have the "wall of sound" style, which I guess you could describe that way if you dislike it, but a lot of my favorite acts use it, and I like it.  I've never heard Lana Lane.  I'll have to put her/them(?) on my list to investigate.

I'm never quite sure if you're joking about that.  I fear that you aren't, and it frightens me.   :-\  ;)

Oh, and another female-fronted symphonic metal band worth trying IMO is Edenbridge (from Austria).  I need to pick up an album or two of theirs myself.

Last Played: Marillion - Marbles

NP: Mastodon - Crack the Skye

I think the vocals on this alternately sound like Ozzy and Layne Staley, which is ok with me since I like both.   *horns*

Well, Greenie, as you know, I'm a straightforward guy, in fact a straightforward rocker, and Lana Lane and Erik Nordendal (her co-composer, keyboardist, producer, and hubby) simply rock more than Lacuna Coil and Edenbridge. I wouldnt say that LC and E are for pu*s, cause I'm a well brought up straightforward rocker, but once you hear (and see) Lana, you'l know what I mean  ;D

;D Greenie

I'm just sellin' her  :D

Let's just say that she sings terrifically, and she's got a song or two that really burn thru, like The Power Of Love  8)

I guess Ozzy sings well, but I never really figured it, as there's nothin that he's contributed to that's really gripped me  :-\

Anyone got some recoms on that one ?  ;)

With Layne, it's an entirely different matter. Alice were awesome, and still seem to be doin great stuff, altho I havent heard Black Gives Way To Blue properly.

Actually, I've had Crack the Skye for a good while now (before you, in fact, although I took a look because you were talking up Blood Mountain).  I have 9 Devin Townsend albums (and 1 by the other DT  ;) ) -- I can't not like metal.

I always liked the first Black Sabbath (titled Black Sabbath and including the song, Black Sabbath  ;D ) album.  I think it's even considered proto-prog in some circles.

JP: Pearl Jam - No Code

NP: Porcupine Tree - Deadwing

I've taken enough of a break; it's time to play Deadwing daily again.   *horns*

To be honest, i can't stand his voice.  :-\
He has the gift of collecting a strong band around him, like Randy Rhoads, Micheal Inez and Zakk Wylde for instance but the dude itself can't grab me by the throat.
In fact, in his entire career there is but just one song which i consider 'awesome' and that is No More Tears. The Extended version of course.

Go figure.  ::)

NP Marillion - Friends; the covers and rarities set from the Weekend 2007. Current track: Bedshaped (originally by Keane), alone already worth the price of admission.

BTW also has a cool version of Toxic, originally by.. Britney Spears ;D Notice now that I put it in my pc that they've put in the track info in the composer field "whoever writes Britney Spears' songs" :D

Great album too  *horns*

I'm just not as enthusiastic about the earlier albums.

Some groups really take more than one album to get their act properly together, e.g. Arena, Mastodon, Avenged Sevenfold, Trivium.

You'r still a novice tho, Greenie. Look at all the great metal bands in my pantheon; many of'm you havent even tasted.

And then there're all the hundreds of metal bands that I'v listened to that aint even listed in my lp - cause they'r ho-hum ... but as a proggie, I consider one has to remain open. E.g. I had pretty much given up Trivium, but then they dished up their masterly Shogun  *horns*

This stuff is fabulous, and Lana and Erik are goin into my pantheon  *horns* *horns* *horns*
