iTunes has me very confused.  It appears in the transition from my old computer to the new one, some albums got copied over two or even three times, while Blind Ego didn't get copied at all.  ???   Fortunately, I already burned that one to a CD since it was a dl purchase.

See, that's what I expected, Tom  ;D

But tell me, do you have so many cd's that you actually have to rummage thru piles to find stuff ?  :o

No, I think I have 'only' 500 cd's, the largest part of my cd-collection stands in alphabetic order on shelves, but there are a few cd's that I didn't really enjoy at the time and in order to create some space on my shelves I put them in a box. One of those cd's was Aghora's Formless. Last weekend my search continued, and guess what: I found the box containing about 20 cd's under my bed...yes, really! ;).

QuoteTom, you'l have to be patient with Aghora  ;)

The lyrics are about Hinduistic viewpoints. I am very much inspired by them, but you might not be quite as much. The mood is also influenced by this subject matter. But I think that if you suspend your critical sense for a while and just get into the flow, you'l be taken be the tremendous musical experience that Aghora bestow upon the listener  *horns*

Hmm, maybe my impatience (at the time) is the reason I put it away in the first place. :-\ However, I'm really going to try again.

I didn't find the time to play it last weekend, but I'm sure I will sometime this week!

QuoteDo you have Mabool too ?  Fabulous album  *horns*

Yes I also have Mabool but I like their most recent one better to be honest.

Nothing wrong with OL, but you'd be hard put to find a group that's more adventurous than Opeth.

Aint that right, Tom ?

True! I've got nothing more to add, really... ;)

NP: Orphaned Land - The Never Ending Way Of ORwarriOR

It's getting kinda monotonous, I know... (me mentioning Orphaned Land's new album in this thread that is, not the album itself!)... ;D

The two Aghora albums are difficult to get into. There's the Hindu thingy, and the female singing, which is more like chanting; both will be alien to most listeners. It took me a while, but now I'm thrilled by it  *horns*

Mad, you'v also done Aghora. Whadaya make of'm ?

One of the greatest rock albums eva imo, and a great testimony to the American soldier who feels that it's his duty to secure our homes, if necessary by venturing out to remote badlands  *horns*

Just found two Lana Lane albums at the library - didnt expect that - Lady Macbeth & Project Shangri-La, so I'm goin home to listen to'mmmmmm  8)

There's some Arjen guy doin some great guitar stuff on some of it  ;)

Here's a fine Amazon review of Secrets Of Astrology by "A customer":

"This is the 'real' alternative music. I first heard Lana Lane on a sampler disc that a friend lent me, and subsequently hunted down Secrets Of Astrology. I have had this disc for well over a year now, and I've yet to get sick of it. Lana Lane possesses the type of voice that I haven't heard in a long time - rich, powerful, full of emotion and fire. She does vocally bear a passing resemblence to Ann Wilson, and that's not bad company to keep. Lane and her husband/collaborator Erik Norlander have produced a brilliant disc of in your face material that announces what it is, right off the top. The Astrology Suite/Secrets Of Astrology/Postlude is the starting point. Kudos to guitarist Arjen Lucassen, and especially drummer Ed Wharby, who is rock steady and shows his flash on songs like Speed Of Sound. Above all though, is the quality of Lane's voice. She is more than a screamer, as tracks like Alexandria, The Bell, and Guardian Angel prove. I have since started to track down her back catalogue, which is large. She does have some uneven albums, but there is no quibbling with Secrets Of Astrology; it packs a punch, gets in your face, and is topped off by the type of voice I had thought had disappeared a decade ago. Well Done, Lana, you've convinced me!"

8) Tom

Aghora are very unusual. Vedic metal, I guess one could call it  :)

Considering the masses of boring rhythmic music that come outta both Hinduist and Christian contexts nowadays, it sure is refreshing to hear such all stops out metal from Aghora  *horns*

JP  Lana Lane & Erik Norlander:  Project Shangri-La

This one (2001) they made just after Secrets Of Astrology (2000), and musically I find it just as wonderful as Secrets  *horns*

JP:  Lana Lane & Erik Norlander:  Lady Macbeth

It doesnt (yet) grip me musically as much as the other two albums, but Lana's lyrics here are sheer amazing  *horns*

One of the things I really like about Lana's and Erik's albums is that they put a lotta effort into their lyrics, and they sure succeed  8)

Lana definitely is one of the most exciting female singers in metalworld. I don't understand why her 10+ albums with Erik arent more popular. In the Room, I guess I'm still the only fan of theirs, but things also take time in the Room  ;)

I don't really know what went wrong between Arjen and Lana and Erik, but seeing Erik's enormous devotion to Lana's talent (which I understand now), it's obvious that he expects such devotion from anyone else contributing, so ......

May I surprise you again? Wrong guess Nicky  ;). I own the following LL/EN/RS albums
Lana Lane: 'Ballads Collection' and 'Secrets of Astrology'. The latter one is great, playing it from time to time. The Ballad Collection (2cd)  is quite boring, all ballads. Never played cd 1 and 2 after each other  ;D. I sold 'Project Shangri-La' a few years ago.
Erik Norlander: 'Into The Sunset', 'Music Machine', 'Seas of Orion' and 'Stars Rain Down' This is a live album, just like the LL/EN cd called 'European Tour 2001 Souvenir cd' I own.
Rocket Scientists: 'Earthbound', 'Brutal Architecture', 'Earth Below & Sky Above (live), 'Oblivion Days', 'Revolution Road'. Favourites are 'Brutal Architecture' and 'Oblivion Days'

Sure, Teunis. Particularly when it's such good news  8)

I recall having seen you NP'ing Rocket Scientists, but not Lana Lane. Maybe you were afraid that some of the Arjen fans would be offended  ???

But you havent taken sides ?

I sold 'Project Shangri-La' a few years ago.

Can you give me some recoms on these, Teunis ?

I consider Erik quite a genius, writing great songs, doing all this wonderful atmospheric stuff on his keyboards, getting the right musicians together, mixing, producing etc  8)

NP  Beatles:  The White Album

Great stuff, really grips me !  A classic masterpiece from 1968  *horns*

Lyricswise, this seems to me their most prog album. The lyrics really twist yer mind when ya try to follow'm.

And the music runs the whole gamut, surprising fountain of ideas these guys had.

Thru the years, I'd heard the songs from Rubber Soul, Sgt. Pepper, Abbey Road, and Let It Be so many times that I really knew'm thoroughly. (Guess that's how it is with you too, Greenie.)

But somehow The White Album had evaded me  ???

Of course I knew Back In The USSR and While My Guitar Gently Weeps well, but then there were wonderful songs like Piggies and I'm So Tired that I could barely recognise.

So now I decided to get properly into it. And what a joy it is  :)

Genesis  The Lamb. What a cd. People over in the US are really bashing the Genesis DVD When in Rome. I don't get it. No emotion, BS. I thought it was really done well. The sound is good. I liked the documentary also, and how it shows the difficulty of putting a show of that magnitude together. I have seen Genesis many times over the years, and they have always been the frontrunners of lighting shows, video etc. Am I missing something?

I don't know what exactly happened. I know EN wrote something about AL in a booklet he shouldn't do! But it's the music what matters and I love both their music.
