Only my second time through with this one, so I can't profess to understand it fully as yet.  As the man himself says, I need a brain massage.  Certainly a good album, and I'd buy others by Mr T on the strength of this one.  But where it sits between 'Good' and 'Great' will pretty obviously have to be decided after many more listens

Well I'd certainly be coping more easily were that the case!

From what I've read, 'Ki' is atypical in some ways for DT, but as it's the only one I've heard I lack that perspective.  But rest assured it's as much Nickelback as Kate is Britney

I suspected it would be atypical, which is why I wasn't sure it would be an ideal introduction, but to be honest, pretty much all his albums are atypical in some way.  To paraphrase Ziltoid, "It's Devin, so it's fun!"
The Kate/Britney comparison is a bracing one, although if you combined just the right bits of each, you might have ...   Er, perhaps I should just drop that train of thought.

NP: Jethro Tull - Bursting Out   

It's been a long time since I heard this, and I'm really enjoying it.  I'd forgotten how great 'Sweet Dream' was.  The remastering seems to have improved the sound too; it seems a lot clearer than I remembered.  Money well spent.

I can't listen to this stuff. These guys are convinced satanists. Fortunately it was a library cd.

To me, there's a categorical difference between Slayer and DB: Slayer are provos; they play around with all norms without giving any answers or pointing in any particular direction.


NP  Disturbed:  Indestructible

Far more enjoyable. Problem is that they don't strike me as being particularly original; they'v hit the "standard American heavy sound" quite precisely and sound a bit too similar to bands like Staind, Seether, and Godsmack (but ok, rock musicians have to survive materially too), the "standard American heavy sound" being a heavier version of the "standard British sound" ala Coldplay

The thing about insanity is that one can be insane in many different ways; in fact, the range of insanity (a tiny minority) is far greater than that of normality (the great majority).
