... the album's been out ages and I had it on release.

???

What I meant was whether it was getting fulfilling.

Tomas Bodin - I Am.

Oh wow!  What a gorgeous, beautiful, awesome, progtastic album this is!  And I'm not saying that purely because of the £2.37 price ;) ;D *horns*

Indeed.  This product may not be suitable for persons requiring tracks to be under 20 minutes in length and containing at least one Stipe or Townsend ;)

Duly noted.  The song I'm currently listening to clocks in at an emphemeral 17:01.   No Stipes or Townsends, although if they collaborated with Gazpacho, that might just be enough to make my head explode (good fun for onlookers if they're not squeamish).

I think it would be good for me to listen to it again, too.  Unfortunately my copy vanished under mysterious circumstances and I've never gotten around to replacing it :(

NP: Devin Townsend - Ki.  First spin so too early to say if I'll regret listening to land-based sea mammals ;D

Too bad! Maybe you should buy it again, I don't think it will be very expensive these days.

I remember being on school-camp in Austria in October 2001 when I shared a room in this hotel with a mate of mine. Every morning we woke up to the nice and mellow first verse of Chop Suey: "Wake Up!!..." Ahh good times! :D

Funnily enough I was looking into that about a week ago.  The CD is reasonably priced, but there's so much other newer stuff I want that I'm in no rush to re-buy something I've previously purchased!

Devin update - my brain hurts! :o

IQ - Frequency.

Hmm, this is a bit of a disaster to my ears.

Musically it seems the band are in fine form, if not exactly breaking any new ground.  There's some storming early Genesis sounding guitar in there that's worthy of recommendation  in particular.

Sound quality wise, however, this is completely awful.  Probably the poorest sounding new release that I've bought in recent memory, certainly worse than the much-maligned Metallica 'Death Magnetic' that's often held up as an example of how not to do it.  Now, I neither know (nor care) whether this is down to loudness wars, over-compression or whatever techy thing is being blamed this week, but I do know it sounds like a third-generation cassette copy.  Squashed-up and lifeless sound, no dynamics and cymbals that sound like no cymbals you can buy in a shop.

NB my comments relate to the legal MP3 download from Amazon.  I'm well aware of the limitations of mp3 and don't expect the same quality I'd get from a CD on my big Hi-Fi.  But like many of us that haunt online forums I spend a lot of time listening to music on the move and am intimately familiar with what can and can't be expected from mp3s.  IQ's Frequency sounds very poor indeed compared to other mp3s - particularly the Tomas Bodin and Devin Townsend releases that I downloaded at the same time.

I don't want to universally pan Frequency as I'm aware that many folk don't give a monkey's about sound quality anyway.  But for those that do, approach this with caution and hear before you buy if at all possible.  For the mp3 version, at least...
