This is actually one of my all-time favourites of all Nightwish songs. Just pure genius! So, em, no, no need to go see the doctor :)
Arriving somewhere, but not here....

PH

Why not? I think you both need to see a doctor! ;)

Nightwish isn't my cup of tea, but I can understand that you really like it! No need to see a (music)doctor.

Bupie, the Captain has decided! - but else you neednt tell me what "addictive" is, as you know  ;)

But then I have to join Paco's club of indifference to Nightwish. They dont really do anything for me. In fact there's no female-fronted group that really has, except Big Brother & The Holding Company fronted by the great Janis Joplin long ago. Not that I haven't tried. And not that I dont love women; I do, but that I dont need to expound on to a Frenchie  ;D

NP  Queensrÿche:  Operation Mindcrime (I)

Must say, really rocks, much more power than I remembered  *horns*

Nicky.

Have you heard:
- Stream Of Passion
- Magenta
- Mostly Autumn
I am most certainly still forgetting some brilliant bands.

Today the first album I listened to was The Cry (as promised ;))
And then when I got home I played The Tangent again!
Great music!

Paco, I listened to some Mostly Autumn after hearing Heather Findlay on The Human Equation. I like her singing a lot, but Mostly Autumn are too light to get me really rockin. Remember that I mainly go for rather heavy stuff like Ten, DT and Sieges Even, although I also like the mellower moments of these groups, and somehow women arent considered in these contexts.

OK, I'll admit that Nightwish are sufficiently heavy for me, but there I find that there's too little variation, and that's a primary criterion for me too.

The female singing that has gripped me most in recent times is Sinead O'Connor on Rick Wright's Broken China  *horns*

Thanks Peter, especially since you are not exactly a metal fan, if I don't mistake  :)

I know very few of their songs. I only have their last album for a couple of weeks and haven't found time to listen to it properly so far (not to mention that my girlfriend can not stand this kind of music more than ten -no pun intended, Nicky  ;D- seconds). But, from the videos that I saw on youtube, most of the short songs seem indeed to have little variation.

Still, considering the number of times that those videos have been seen, it must be a VERY famous band in some countries (but not in France).

NP Nightwish - Amaranth  ;D

PH

Well, I see a lot of "metal-heads" in my school. Some of them wear Nightwish T-shirts or Epica T-shirts.
When I ask them they do know about Dream Theater, but don't like them too much.
So this kind of music is very popular by a (still rather big) minority of people (often young people).
I used to think that metal heads are at least more open to Prog. But they are as biased as Pop music lovers. Albeit in an alternative way.

And then there are those "true" metal heads, who just laugh at Nightwish fans. Nightwish is considered "teen metal". Just look at the concert vids on youtube or so, I wouldn't go there, really. Just 14 year old girlies, screaming all the time, making me feel like "*smack*, shut up and let me listen to the music!"

And no, I'm not a true metal fan, I just have "metal moments", so to say :D That's when I put on Ayreon, SoP, Metallica, Nightwish, and the likes. Still, bands without keyboards get less of my attention :)

I'm on line with you here, Cap. The keyboards give sooo much atmosphere and flavor, sorta like the salt and spices in food  :)

Teen metal. Yes, could be a good definition. Still, I like it (moderately, so far) but it's been a long time since I have no more illusions about how immature I am and will remain   :-[  ;D

NP - Thin Lizzy Pressure will blow   *horns*  More adult stuff, you think ?

Nice, Bupsie  :)

Same here!

It's simply amazing how closed-minded and ignorant non-proggies are mostly. They immediately close up to anything that has a solid rhythm, has more than a tonica, dominant, subdominant structure and some chromacy, and where the lyrics are about more than won and lost love.

Music is really the orphan of society today, huh?  ???

Btw, Bupsie, I'd just like to mention this to you: I was at a marvelous lecture about Heidegger the other day, held by the German philosopher Thomas Schwartz. We got into the subject of protecting ourselves against imperialistic tendencies, like today the US political and cultural imperialism. Schwartz argued that the French have for generations now struggled to uphold their special heritage. I long had some reservations about French "chauvinism", but I must say that this discussion gave me lots more respect for the French struggle for keeping your special character and mission in the world.
*horns*

But let's soon see some convincing prog music from France  :)

NP  Eleven:  Avantgardedog

One of my fave groups, and fave albums - another group hardly known in the Room.

Very melodic, imaginative, fabulous singing, sorta in the crossroads of prog and indie.

Got to know them through Chris Cornell. Alain Johannes and Natassja Shneider are personal friends of CC and did his Euphoria Morning wth him - a masterpiece.

I have all five of Elevens's studio albums now - all great.
