NP  Jerry Cantrell:  Degradation Trip

One of my absolute favorites, one I can listen to again and again   *horns*

Many of you guys will know that JC is the guitarist and backing singer of Alice In Chains. In fact he is the Genius behind AIC. But then it must be added that Layne was a tremendous singer and contributed just as much as Jerry to AIC's very unique sound.

So it can be no surprise that Degradation sounds very much like AIC. Still, it also does sound somewhat different - hm, difficult to pinpoint .... Somehow it's not quite as dark, and rocks a bit more.

But this sure is music for the advanced proggie, by no means the sing-along kinda music.

Recom for all AIC fans.

Nicky.

I used to have "Nemo" (by Nightwish) as my mobile phone ringtone... I think we should go and see the doc together...  ;)

Why not ? Unfortunately for my family circle, I think I am about to enter in a Nightwish period since I plan to explore their back catalog. I guess it will be very painful for some of my relatives  :-[

You never did?!  :o
No :( I only saw Arena live once. They only perform in the west of the Netherlands in small cities. Since I must depend on public transport it's not possible for me to visit those gigs unless I get a lift from someone and a place to sleep.
For some good reading visit:""Fluffy Kittens of DOOM"!

NP  Circus Maximus:  The 1st Chapter

Great album, a sure grower   *horns*

It's too uneven for me to call it a masterpiece, but these Norwegian guys sure are excellent musicians and have a lot of good ideas, and they clearly enjoy playing together. A speciality is the Arabic flavor.

If they stick together, they'll certainly get BIG.

From reviews, I have the impression that they really have got their act together on Isolate, so this album seems to be a real masterpiece.

So fellow heavies in the Room, I know that several of you are into CM. What's your take?

I heard a lot about them but never a thing of them. Time to change that i guess.  ;)
Wanted to buy their latest album but i think i'll go for the cheaper ones.  :D

I don't have it. I just never gave it a proper listen. Time to change that too i guess.  :D

What does your woman think of all these changes, Mad ?

Mine was often on the verge of putting me back in the psychward, but I perservered, and now Ms007 actually enjoys Marillion, Ten, and Dredg, although not Opeth (yet), even though she's Swedish  :D

Well she accepted my choice of music and is okay with it. Always has by the way. And she does like some parts of the music i play, some Arena songs for instance but she likes some Ayreon stuff too but it are always the mellow and easy-to-get-along songs she aproves.
Never had the nerve to let her listen to Opeth because i'm positive she would run out the house screaming and crying 'my husband has joined the dark side'.  ;D

Spock's Beard - Octane
2. I Wouldn't Let It Go

I really like this album. I bought Spock's Beard's Octane and the Spock's Beard album together. At first I liked Octane more, but after many listens I like the Spock's Beard album the most.
But Octane is still a very great album!

No doubt that the latest self-titled SB album is the best, Paco. In fact, it's unbelievably good !

It seems that once Neal had left (for whatever reasons), the other guys upped themselves, and there was a tremendous amount of talent there waiting to be realised.

And Nick is one of the absolute greatest singers around  *horns*

Yeah, and Neal is better now too.
It's like they both were restricted or something...

I prefer Neal's solo career to his career with Spocks and I prefer the Spocks v2 to Spocks v1.
Spocks v2. vs Neal Morse is difficult...
They are both excellent (especially (indeed) the latest Spocks release).
But in the end I give Neal my vote for his courage and his inspiration. (He's doing it on his own, while the Spocks guys do it together and with this John Boegehold guy added to it...).

I think Opeth is a league of its own. Great melody's, which if you ask me can be 'labelled' as prog and ditto vocals. Unfortunately there are times that i think Mikeal's clean vocals suits a song better than the growls/grunts but overall i think he's an amazing songwriter.
Personal favourites are Blackwater Park, which is simply genius and Damnation. When you listen to a song like Windowpane....goosebumps or as i like to call it, chicken-skin al over my body.  *horns*
Same goes for Blackwater Park and The Drapery Falls.

In short: I like Opeth really much.  8)

That's really sad ...  :'( ... and I (almost) feel guilty because I've seen them so often ... I didn't really count, but it must've been something like 10x ...
