"Live", "Coldplay", "U2", "Oasis", "Rolling Stones". I don't like them.
"Muse" is an exception .....

Here we actually agree, Paxi  :)

None of these groups do much for me nowadays, altho I enjoy Muse a bit more than the others.

However, the Stones were exciting in the days of Beggars Banquet and Their Satanic Majesties Request, and one must give U2 credit for having been a groundbreaking group for many years, altho they bore me now.

"Radiohead"... Hmmm... Don't really like it, but there are some things that are a bit better than the rest.

Yeah, funny, I'm not either that hot on Radiohead, but I like the way Anathema have weaved Radiohead sounds into their music  8)

Why is that so difficult to understand? ::)

The thing is, Paxi, that you don't give all music a fair chance. E.g. MySpace can give an impression, but at the end of the day, it's only when you actually have the album and listen to it intently and repeatedly that it really unfolds. There simply aint any shortcuts in prog !

I know, few people have the patience, and therefore the great majority are stuck with all the trash that's poured outta the radio and TV - to their detriment. It's really tragic: So many excellent groups, and so few people appreciating'm  :(

I have about 40 groups in my prog pantheon (for active groups), and altho I'v listened to the radio for hours on end during my 1/2 year mowing period, I can't remember hearing one song by any of these groups - in fact not even CC who's quite a big name now internationally. (I heard Céline several times, but she's not in my pantheon.)

I actually find the tips from you roomies and my first-life friends the best indicator. I know you guys' tastes by now, and if one of you returns to an album (e.g. under NP) and enthuses about it in various ways, that makes an impression on me, and then when I rummage around in the cd-store, this backlog inspires and guides me  :) ;)

Radiohead is weird, but not as weird as Muse as far as I'm concerned.

That doesnt either make any sense to me, Måd. Muse are far more straightforward than Radiohead. Whadaya mean  ???

NP  Anathema:  Eternity

There's something about this music that makes me feel 1.84 km high instead of 1.84 m  *horns*

Altho they're obviously very Floyd inspired, they're definitely up-to-date with influences from many contemporary alternative, indie, electronic, and goth groups. I hear a lot of Radiohead in their music. I'm of course talkin about their albums from Eternity on.

Tom and Måd, whadayasay ?

Wow, this is beautiful - melodic, spiritual, atmospheric, and it even rocks for real  *horns*

Guys, try this out:  http://www.myspace.com/weareanathema

I was happy to see that they seem to be getting across at last. About 200,000 plays for each song, that's pretty good.

However, they seem to be moving rather close to the radio friendly nowadays. Hope they don't sell out. What's your take on Hindsight, Tom ?

Now we just have to get Arena over the Threshold (and maybe Threshold into the Arena) .....  :) ;)

NP  Yusuf:  An Other Cup

You know who this is ?

No, it's not The Artist Formerly Known As Prince.

John, Jonesey and Iggy, you probably know.

Do ya ? ..............

OK, here it is: It's the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens. He "converted to Islam at the height of his fame in December, 1977. The following year, he adopted his Muslim name Yusuf Islam, auctioned all his guitars away for charity in 1979, and left his music career to devote himself to educational and philanthropic causes in the Muslim community. He has been given several awards for his work in promoting peace in the world, including 2003's World Award, the 2004 Man for Peace Award and the 2007 Mediterranean Prize for Peace. In 2006, he returned to pop music, with his first album of new pop songs in 28 years, entitled An Other Cup." - Wiki, Cat Stevens

Vegetarian too, Jonesey  ;)

What's your take on Hindsight, Tom ?

I think Hindsight is a very original album (and it has beautiful artwork!). The musicians didn't make it easy for themselves. They didn't just grab their acoustic guitars and hit the record-button, but they completely reworked the songs. The result of this is that the songs really stand out in their acoustic arrangement. I wouldn't go as far as saying that the songs on this acoustic album are better than the original versions but overall they sure gained a lot of intensity!
Something that I really like about this album is the atmosphere. On 'regular' studio-albums Anathema's sound is often pretty dark but that's certainly not the case here. I won't say that they turned dark, emotional songs into meaningless happy songs, but there's a certain warmth surrounding this album, which is very nice for a change I think.

So yeah, I think Anathema did a great job with this album! :)

And what do you think about it? Or were you you just asking about the album in order to be convinced to buy it? ;)

Did I succeed? ;D
