Nicky, I hope you're not referring to me, because there are quite a lot American bands I like.

But compared to the number of British and Scandinavian bands .....

And you're more likely to try out a British or Scandinavian band.

E.g. Eleven and Chris Cornell are close to your faves, but as they're American  >:( :( ::) ??? :-X :-\ :-[ ;)

Nicky.

I remember listening to Chris Cornell a long time ago, but to me it sounded like pop music... :-\

It's melodic, alright, but there's a forthrightness and grunginess to CC that keeps him apart from pop. Don't forget, he was the mastermind of Soundgarden, altho his singing was drowned in the other guys' din  :(

Euphoria Morning is a masterpiece. There's hardly any other rock album that so delicately moves thru so many different emotions and moods  8)

Carry On is a fine album too, I'm beginning to realise .....

You know... I've really tried it. I've spend some time at his MySpace for the last couple of minutes. But, I'm very sorry, I fail to see why I should like it...
And to be honest, I can't even see why you like it... you were the metal kind of guy?

Oh yes, I said "Pop" and you say "it's melodic, alright...". It's not that I don't like melodic, because I think music HAS TO BE melodic. Prog is melodic too most of the time. That's why I like it.
And at times, I also like some music that isn't melodic. So that's not an issue at all.

And no, I don't think they sound like anything I should like. There's no Arena, no Dream Theater. The only thing that comes close, is Ten. And we had that one already right? ;D
I just don't find anything spectacular in Chris Cornell's music. Or Audioslave's. That's it.

And again, that has got NOTHING to do with them being American. I can't believe you even said that. It makes no sense and is completely ridiculous.

Ah yes indeed! I think I'll put that one on my "to buy list" straight away!

NP:
Frank Klepacki - Machines Collide

Has a "C&C: Red Alert" feel to it with a little bit of "Emperor: Battle For Dune" flavour.
I hope he's doing a new solo album soon. 8)

Paxi, you just proved my point again. Had it been a British or Scandinavian outfit, you would have bought the cd and tried it out properly  ::)

And yes, I like very heavy stuff like Scar Symmetry, and I like complex, weird stuff like Nevermore, and I also like less heavy ingenious stuff like Arena and Chris Cornell. As you know, I can even enjoy Céline Dion, a far cry from Nevermore. Just like you enjoy both Dream Theater ("er", Jonesey) and Klepacki. The difference between us is that you make hasty judgements ..... well, maybe I do too once in a while, like with PT & Anathema .....

No, I never work like that. ;) I thought you'd already know!

It simply hasn't got to do with the country, but with the style. I don't like it. Why is that so difficult to understand? ::)
There are also a lot of British and Scandinavian bands that I don't like. Most of them are indeed Pop music, or something like "Alternative" Rock.
"Live", "Coldplay", "U2", "Oasis", "Rolling Stones". I don't like them.
"Muse" is an exception. That's because of their heavy use of synths and interesting sounds. Besides, Matt Bellamy is a great guitarist and singer. I really like the singing. But I won't EVER compare them to "Arena".
"Radiohead"... Hmmm... Don't really like it, but there are some things that are a bit better than the rest.

I'm sorry mate, I don't know why... I just don't like most Pop music... Can't help it.

Yeah? So?

Neal Morse is American too.  :-\

And i wouldn't label Radiohead or Coldplay as 'too American'.
More britpop i'd say.
And believe me, Coldplay latest has proggy moments i can assure you.  ;)
Radiohead is weird, but not as weird as Muse for i'm concerned.

U2...hmm I slightly agree with that, and to be honest eventhough i'm a huge U2 fan i still must admit that their last two efforts weren't all too great but man, these guys rock big time and are among The Beatles and Dire Straits the most influential rock bands in history, i'd say.

I'm shocked.  :-\

Oh...

NP> Scar Symmetry - Pitch Black Progress

Track: [02] Slaves To The Subliminal

Clean and growls...heavy tunes...great double bass drums...massive guitar parts...cool rhythm section.

Like it.
Though i must admit that i like it more when i hear the clean vox.  :-\

So I heard, but still I think I won't like it. A friend of mine is into Coldplay and he let me hear some of Viva La Vida, but I was not impressed. Same with Chris Cornell: nothing interesting happens in my opinion. I fully respect it when people like it, but I don't.... Can't do anything about it... :-\

I have to admit that I've listened to The Joshua Tree and there are actually a few very good songs on that one! But I've also heard lots of other U2 songs and I must conclude that they aren't really my thing. Too poppy indeed... Not interesting to me. :(

Alright, what about this then?

Now Playing:
John Mayer on MySpace

A friend of mine said to me that I should listen to it. (The same guy who listens to Coldplay.)
John Mayer (who is American by the way) makes Pop music, but he knows how to play the guitar too. At times some of his songs remind me of Phil Collins.
It's melodic and Pop, but in my opinion it's interesting than the songs on Chris Cornell's MySpace page. ;)
Hehehehehe. ;D
