Funny thing: The bands' name doesn't ring a bell but i'm sure i've heard the title before.
If only i could remember where?  ??? :-[

I know some may consider it heretical but I think I prefer Experiments in Mass Appeal to Milliontown

I for one can't really make a decision.
Both are extremely good albums.
Experiments has one plus though: there are more songs on it.

Don't get me wrong, I think EIMA is a great album, but...

After all the hype that surrounded Frost* in the months leading up to the releasedate of EIMA I can't help but to feel a little bit disappointed. Well, disappointed isn't actually the right word, but I can't come up with a better one...

I have to say I massively enjoyed the building up to the releasedate with Jems Frost*-Reports, in which we could hear bits and pieces of songs while they were written/recorded. But I think these reports play a big part in me feeling a little disappointed. Normally, when I hear a new album for the first time the music is all new and fresh but this time around I think I've heard far too much music beforehand, through the Reports.

Does this make any sense?

All of a sudden, I thought the line had changed to Eleven  :o

It turns out that some of some of Sum Of Damage Done sounds exactly like Eleven. Now, how can that be  ???

OK, Daniel Gildenlöw, who contributed, has some of that strangeness. But there must be more to it .....

And how come you guys totally ignore Eleven ?  You're really missin somethin, tellya  ;)

Hm, difficult, they're very special  ::)

If you'v heard Chris Cornell's Euphoria Morning, you're basically hearing Eleven with Chris' fabulous singing, cause Eleven's Alain Johannes and Natasha Shneider are in the mix, and they worked very closely with Chris.

Else, Queens Of The Stone Age are the band I know that come closest. That's not so surprising, as Alain has been contributing a lot to Queens' music. However, Eleven are more indie and melodic.

That's probably the closest I can get, Tom  :)

Here, found'm on MySpace:  http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewProfile&friendID=15962707

Sadly, Natasha died recently. I wrote about it earlier.

NP UFO - Force It

I am still on my trip to UFO's back catalogue. The great thing with the remastered editions from EMI that I pursue is that each one contains an extensive booklet telling the story of the band at the moment of the recording. And considering the characters in the band, there are a lot of stories to tell ...

What's that?

And you seem to like the Steve Hogarth albums very much.
Please tell me, which one should I absolutely listen to?
I already know Season's End, Anoraknophobia, Marbles and Happiness Is The Road.
And please say something different than Brave, I already know I have to buy that one. :P

Although the question is not aimed to me but to Mr "living rock encyclopedia" Jones, I can strongly recommend Holidays in Eden (be sure to get the two cd's edition), IMHO unfairly criticized for being too poppy. Knowing that you like Kino and new It Bites, songs like Cover My Eyes or No One Can should please you  ;)

This Strange Engine is a good pick too with melancholic songs like Estonia or One Fine Day.

Ah...I'm looking forward to getting these but waiting for them to fall in price a bit. The next 3 are currently up for pre-order at £7.99 at CDWOW which is more reasonable price. Class band, class albums too  8)

Not only new It Bites. I even think I prefer "Once Around The World" to "The Tall Ships". ;)

About Marillion: I think I might end up buying the whole discography in the end...
I'm halfway already. :P
But Holidays In Eden is on my list now! ;)

Yes. You are totally nuts! ;D

But seriously, I can say that I fully understand it. There were bits of songs in his reports that were absolutely wonderful. But it turned out that those bits were the best parts of the songs. Things like keysolos and instrumental passages.
I mean, it's cool to hear that in the process, but the "less cool" bits were carefully hided at first.
I think that's part of the marketing idea as well...
For me the same was with Milliontown. Black Light Machine came as a free download and was like a teaser. It turned out to be my favourite on the album. The rest of the songs didn't reach the pure brilliancy of that song.
In that way the rest of the album came as a "disappointment".
Still, in my case, the rest of the album is also super mighty fine. But Black Light Machine was just even better than that! ;D
