Yeah, Syd was obviously in the picture, particularly from Roger's side. But there seems to be much more in it ......

Puzzling lyrics  ???

Perhaps you can do an album analysis in a new topic?
But don't make it too long ofcourse! ;D

Btw Bupsie, have you ever delved into these Floyd classics ?  You never talk about Floyd  ???

Well, I first realized that Pink Floyd existed as a kid with The song Money that I didn't like at all (and still don't). Then I really discovered the band with The Wall -the movie- that impressed me more than it pleased me. I guess it was a bit dark and esoteric for a 17 years old teenager. I didn't dig further, apart from hearing the classic hits (WYWH, SOYCD, ABITW ...) on the radio, until I returned to prog a few years ago. Since this return, I bought Meddle and Wish You Were Here which I don't play very often despite reckognizing their greatness and legendary classics status. I also was offered The Division Bell by a friend last year and I enjoy it despite of its rather mellow nature. To be exhaustive, I also saw the movie More a long time ago but I don't keep much memory of the PF's soundtrack.

All in all, a great band, no doubt, but I came up a few years late to be "part of the process". I surely will shock you and many other Roomies but when I want to listen to a calm and spacey 70's album, I most of the time pick Dire Straits' Communiqué over PF's WYWH. But, hey, what else would you expect from a French ?  ;D

NP UFO - Walk On Water

I guess very few people know this album that saw the return of the greatest years' line-up. Michael Schenker goes for a few outstanding soli there and the new version of Doctor Doctor might well have one of the greatest intros in classic rock history  *horns*

The guitar solo kicks ass tho. Give it another run, Bupsie  ;)

Yeah, it's a rather special song with its 7/4 beat. Quite a dig to all money obsessives too.

Funny, I never thought about whether it was good or not. In my mind, it was Floyd, so it just had to be good  ::)

Guess it's the "Allons enfants de la Patrie" thingy:  You don't worry about whether it's good or not, you just sing along and enjoy the ride  ;D

Whew, that movie. I was first overwhelmed, then impressed ... and the fourth time, I actually enjoyed it  *horns*

Gotta see it soon again  ;)

You gotta help me out there, Bups (I know, I'm just as bad)  ;)

the movie More

Yeah, that movie isnt all that great. When I saw it at the time, I was quite gripped by the tragic story and the hoo! ups (or else I wanted to grip them)  ;D

But seeing it thirty years later, I actually quit halfway thru. And the music is not among Floyd's best.

You're not doing too bad, Bupsie. At least you can listen to something else than Edith Piaf and accordion music  ;D

Funny you say that, Steve. I have that same album you're referring to and indeed, it's breathtaking but i also have a Bootleg recorded live in Den Bosch in 2006 that begins with Shine On and then slowly emerges into Conceiving you.
Now let me tell you folks, that version is simply out of this world. As if you're listening to PF itself.  8) 8) 8)

Yeah, amazing album, isn't it? Are You There is really one of the most beautiful/emotional songs I ever heard.

I'm actually listening to the song 'Closer' now. Cool vocal-effects and build-up, don't you think?

Took some time with me, but yeah, for sure !

NP  Anathema:  Alternative 4  (on repeat)

Also a tremendous album   *horns*

I'v added Anathema to my prog pantheon  :)

I'v been wondering why they grip me so  ???

It's probably mainly my Floydian vein, with a big dose of Weltschmerz.

Imagine Meddle-era Floyd, a bit heavier, with some IQ organs, and some Radiohead atmosphere. That would be as close as I can get to describing Anathema by way of other groups I know.

Actually something for most roomies, I'd say  ;)

For me too? I don't consider myself "most roomies", so...

Today I played:
A.C.T - Imaginary Friends

It's a wonderful album! I need to repeat that to myself, cos they're a bit overshadowed by "Last Epic" and "Silence".
I don't play it that often as those two albums.
But IT IS a fantastic album.
Tomorrow it's time for "Today's Report"!

Now playing...
Nothing...
I love that sound. I can't wait for the next album. I hope they aren't disbanded yet.
