Galahad - Empires Never Last.

A favourite on my iPoop during the week, it's nice to let it out at the weekend so it can have a run round the room and get some exercise.  ;)

Got that one on order now, after your ravings.  If it's good enough for a fan of Ms Dion, then it's good enough for me!  ;) ;D ;D ;)

:P Stevie

Yeah, you're in for some bigtime excitement soon. I'm now inclined to say that we're talkin SC-(read top-)league here  *horns*

But be patient. This is very dense stuff. Took me over ten listens before I realised how ingenious TGE is.

Lookin forward to hear what you guys think of it.

I've been pondering a purchase, too, as I fancy checking out some more new Polish talent.  I went for Osada Vida first, however, but perhaps next time...

What's Osada Vida like? I read something about them a long time ago but can't really remember what exactly! :D

NP: Dream Theater - The Number Of The Beast (Official Bootleg) *horns*

NP  In Flames:  Come Clarity

These guys are BIG in Scandinavia, but seemingly among people a generation younger than me. I just don't find that there's much interesting going on (particularly right after Nevermore), it's basically rather simple music despite all the effort.

But I'l hear Disc 1 thru.

Anyone here into this group ?

Nicky.

Heavy-ish prog, or possibly prog-ish heavy.  Not prog-metal, but the kind of guitar-fueled prog that might be characterised by Arena – if you believe Arena to be prog.  ::)

The Arena comparison is useful.  They don't sound like an Arena copy, don't get me wrong, and I'm sure not a single person on this forum would ever mistake the two.  But there's enough common ground that I'd be reasonably confident that an Arena fan would have a better than average chance of thinking "I want that CD!" after hearing just a few tracks.  :)

Another handy parallel is the dirty guitar sound – very similar to Threshold in that respect.  But then the album is "engineered, co-produced, edited, mixed and mastered by Karl Groom" – the name rings a vague bell.  ;)

Of course it's down to the individual at the end of the day, but my recommendation would be to check it out as soon as humanly possible.  I think it's a cracking album, especially the opening track where the sweeping choral female vocals completely blew me away the first time I heard it.  After that it got better.  *horns*

Well I only got home and found it on the doormat an hour ago and it didn't sound quite how I expected, so it's not really fair to comment just yet.  But I will say that I'm not half way through it so far and have already ordered the other one listed on Amazon.  ;D

No, but a friend of mine is.
It's basically trash metal or the likes, with some melody there. Sounds good in some places!
And the guy can actually sing, but most of the time he sounds like there's something in his throat he wants to get rid off.

Osada Vida - The Body Parts Party.

I suspect this will be on many people's shortlists for best prog release of 2008.  Excellent, bl**dy excellent.  *horns*

I really must procure some Shadow Gallery.  The only thing I own is their version of Yes 'Release Release' on a tribute CD, but that's pretty impressive.  *horns*

I need Loud Things at the moment - the missus has taken over the TV and is playing her Cliff Richard DVDs with the sound cranked up.  I'm not sure if the manufacturers of LCD TVs considered how old leatherneck would look upscaled to fit the larger modern screen - there are things a man wasn't meant to see!  :o

NP: Nightwish - End of an Era.

Amaseffer - Slaves For Life

I was sufficiently intrigued by what I heard online to order the album for a proper listen.  Hopefully tomorrow...  :)

NP: Nevermore - This Godless Endeavor.  I must echo Nicky double-oh-ten's recommendation for this one - it's awesome.  If you like a bit of b*lls-to-the-wall metal with some clever bits thrown in then this is top class stuff.  Very intelligently put together and exceptionally well recorded. I've played it three times in the last 24 hours...

Yup:

NP  Nevermore:  TGE

But you gotta consider, Stevie, that not all the guys here have b*s of metal. There are also some marshmallows  ;D

Now next get Warrel Dane's Praises To The War Machine - also  *horns*

And on Sept 30 Jeff Loomis' Zero Order Phase is scheduled for release - that'l also be a bomb !

Good. I'm so curious what you guys think of it.

Heck, I even think that this could be my 'Ten' moment.  ;D

I like it too but I  prefer their first DVD, From Wishes to Eternity : less pyrotechnics, more raw music.

NP Nightwish - Oceanborn  Their only real speed metal album IMHO.

I have the "reloaded" version which means that are added to the original release not only Sleeping Sun but also another studio track plus a bunch of live tracks. So a lot to listen but not my fave from the band. Too much speed, not enough melody (but still more than most) female fronted metal bands  and Tara's voice sounds really too operatic at times. In this sub-genre, I would rather take Sonata Arctica's Silence or Ecliptica, for instance.
