Arena - The Visitor.

I'm having a bit of an Arena day whilst doing assorted domestic chores.  Dunno if anyone's heard of these guys, but they really are quite good.  ;)

Genesis - We Can't Dance

Prog or not, 'Driving the Last Spike' is up there with the best Genesis tracks for my money.  Not quite 'Supper', but not far behind.  *horns*

I'm still playing my copy a lot - excellent band.  The more I play it, the less it sounds close to Porcupine Tree and the more it reminds me of Live  *horns*

Blackfield - Blackfield.

A pleasant variation on the Porcupine Tree theme, if not quite as good as the real thing.

... so I'm turning this up to 11 right now ...

Looks like we all have that problem  :o

Otoh when they gather, we want them to turn down the (gabbering) volume  ;D

I still have to meet (not 'ea') the woman who turns up (not down) the volume when I lend her my headphones   :D

NP  Mike Oldfield:  Exposed

Has the famous live version of Tubular Bells (finishing off with the terrific Guilty), which is far more exciting for modern proggie ears than the original version. There are three guitarists (incl. Mike himself) in the mix, plus flutes, strings, brass, choir - and tubular bells, of course. In the remastered version they've upped the bass section, which has given it more spunk. There's also some heavenly guitar playing.

Up there with classics like Lamb and Dark Side - really mean it  *horns*

I'm considering getting Amarok. Can anyone here tell me what it's like ?

Being a peasant, I've only got the CD version.  Is the book any good?  (And don't say it's 'Not as Good as the CD', because it really won't be funny!  ;D ;D)

It would have been  ;D

It is quite interesting it stretches over 88,000 years and is all about prog.

There is an amuzing game at the start of it where he has a list of people that he thanks, 31 groups of names I am still trying to work a few of them out.

I never thought about Porcupine Tree as a reference. I think it's more like Anathema then PT.
You think about Live when you listen to it? Hmm interesting. Personally i don't but i see what you're getting at. If the rough edges is the case then i think Demians can be compared with the Pineapple thief too. Or Oceansize.

NP> Roger Waters - In The Flesh

I could watch the DVD but for now i only listen to the Cd's.  ;)

It's only something I mention because somebody else on here did, so I started listening to the band with that in mind.  I drfit away from that point of vew each time I play the album.

Certainly parts remind me of Live (Secret Samedi is a great album) and I can see your Pineapple Thief angle, too.  Such is the difficulty of attempting to put music into words when trying to discuss it on forums such as this - see me struggling with Satellite on another thread.  :-[   When I sit down and listen to an album I just listen to the music and (hopefully) enjoy it.  Only when someone puts me on the spot do I start to struggle for points of reference.  :-\

Great album, though.  I sat in the garden yesterday, listening to it on the iPod whilst throwing a tennis ball to amuse the dogs.  Bliss!  *horns*

Now there's one I haven't heard in an awful long time.  I've still got the vinyl double I bought when it came out - it's quadrophonic too!  Not sure why I've never bought it on CD, as it's a hell of a performance and exceptionally well recorded.  I'd order it now, but there's 2x Spocks and 1x Judas Priest about to hit my debit card  :P

I really hope it works outside of Holland!  :)

So, now I'v clicked the links on several computers in Denmark and Sweden. So far nothing has worked properly. When I click the Metallica link, I get a small window with a Q and a ? inside it. When I click the QOTSA link, I get a window with a picture of Joshua Homme, and after about 1/2 minute, I get a window telling me that I need a MIME thingy. I don't know what to do about that, and I don't wanna mess around too much on other people's computers.

Has anyone else outside of Holland been successful with these links ?

Maybe we can find the videos on Youtube ?

I can't get TOO excited about it...

Okay, too bad, looks like the links only work in Holland then. But no worries, if you search youtube for 'Queens Stone Age Pinkpop 2008' or 'Metallica Pinkpop 2008' you'll find plenty of videos! :)

Have fun!
