I'm listening to Los Endos by Genesis.

What's that? - like, Paco?

What do "ordinary" students think of Genesis? Are they aware of the importance of this group?

What do you mean with this sentence?
What's the album like?
What's it like to play that to my fellow students?
Or is it like the students would ask me that question?

Quote from: Nicky007 on Tue, 2007-09-25, 15:06:32What do "ordinary" students think of Genesis? Are they aware of the importance of this group?
I guess not.
As I said, some liked it, but most of them said "Stop that will you!"

PH

I'm listening to Steve Hackett's Voyage Of The Acolyte
2. Hands Of The Priestess (Part 1)

Brilliant music.
And a recommendation for people who love the old era Genesis.
Along with Steve also his brother John plays flute on it. And Phil Collins plays drums and does some vocal. Mike Rutherford plays bass on the album.
Practically, it's a Genesis album without Peter Gabriel and Tony Banks.

It's just that I haven't heard of Los Endos (not that it means that much).

NP  Sieges Even:  Steps

Yeah, ultimately I abandoned A Sense (for a while). Steps is also very unusual. I'm beginning to like it (fourth listen).

SE albums one has to listen to many times before they start sounding good, but then they also laaast.

What?!?!?!?!?! :o :o :o :o :o :o

Run to the shop and buy "A Trick Of The Tail" (or try before you buy...).
That's a very nice album.
I thought you knew every Genesis album when you said that Duke is a brilliant album.
Trust me, you can't go wrong with "A Trick Of The Tail"!!

-Paco

PS: I'm planning to buy the SACDs of the Genesis pack, which will cost 130 euros...

EDIT:
Marillion - He Knows You Know
From the Script... album.

First I hated this song, but now I really appreciate this.
I think I even might like Marillion. At least this Fish era.
This is where there's still synth solo's a la Nolan. I think that's what's lacking in the later albums (the ones I heard anyway...).

Great pic, John. Did you take it yourself? One really gets an experience of three great musicians who take their art very seriously.

Yes, we took quite a few, er, around 350 all weekend. You can see some of them HERE.

What?!?!?!?!?! :o :o :o :o :o :o

What a reaction! OK, I take it as a compliment.

But OK, Paco, when I was young - your age actually (yes, I too was once green - how remote) - I listened a lot to the first Genesis albums, not at all as much as to Floyd, but still a fair bit, particularly to Trespass and Nursery Cryme. Admittedly I lost track of Genesis for for a while then. When I was about thirty, I became enthusiastic about Duke and listened a bit to the other Genesis albums of that time. Nowadays I rarely listen to Genesis, because they don't have the same magic for me that Floyd have, even old Floyd albums like Atom Heart Mother.

NP  Sieges Even:  The Art Of Navigating By The Stars

These guys are Genius! I think that one of the things that have made them so great is that they never really cared about what mainstream society thought about them, as long as there was a community of serious music lovers who enjoyed their music, which there seems to always have been. I noticed long ago that the best Amazon reviewers mentioned SE now and then.

They play concerts occasionally, particularly in Germany - guys, don't miss out on a fabulous experience. They're prob better now than ever before.

John Petrucci - Glasgow Kiss

This song and the LP Suspended Animation are so good that I fail to understand all the bashing they received  ???

Definitively a must-get album for you Nicky and Maddox (plus many other roomies)  ;)

Hey, I already got that one ages ago! ;) :D
Because you made me think of it, I'm now listening to John Petrucci - Damage Control *horns*

Marillion with Fish is a VERY different band than Marillion with Hogarth. Try Misplaced Childhood if you haven't yet. One of the most moving albums I have ever heard ... Of course, since I was 20 when it was released, I am a little biased about it  :)

The Hogarth era has its highlights too but there are some albums that I would have sold back after two (well, let's make three to please Nicky  ;)) listens if the Marillion name wasn't on the cover.

Brave, for instance, : I tried and tried for 13 years to get into it but I just couldn't find anything interesting ... And finally, something clicked in my mind and now I can appreciate it. But I doubt I would have been so patient with any other band ...

So NP Marillion - Made Again  8)

See, that's how it works, Bupie. One should always keep an open mind and never put anything away for good (unless it's obvious fluff).

It's happened so many times that I listened to some music and regarded it as uninteresting, only to fall over it later and be enraptured, that I try to keep it all in mind.

Now I'll soon be hanging next to Paco   ;D

I have Anoraknophobia which is very good actually. I like it. But the rest of H-Marillion did nothing to me.

Neal Morse - Testimony
disc 1
Long Story

You need to listen to this album as a whole.
It's great.
I'm gonna try the second disc after the first disc, hoping I can sit it out.

PH

Couldn't get the second Testimony disc in my cd player... ;D
Will do later.

But in the meantime you should all listen to K3!
(No not that Belgian girly band...)

It's instrumental progressive metal a la Dream Theater.
And Jordan Rudess plays on one of the songs.

I am glad to read that from a youngster, PH ! So maybe you could try some Fish solo albums too. Sunsets on Empire or Internal Exile (criminally underrated) for instance.

NP Fish - Just good friends  Great ballad with a killer guitar solo. There's a nice video of it with Sam Brown as a guest singer : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2tKJ4zzNjw&mode=related&search=

They simply found the treasure at the end of the rainbow here. Pure delight, nothing forced or contrived   *horns*

I'll play some H-Marillion afterward, as I feel I ought to know them better (while I look up some possible jobsites; most of you guys seem to have regular jobs or school, so maybe I too should get down to it again; guess I better catch up with some of those TV-series and football games too, so I can join the conversation at office  ;) ).
