NP Royal Hunt - 20th Anniversary

It has finally arrived. And the package is really >:( Imagine an old VHS-type and size box with four discs and a ... 8 (!) pages booklet, with only one of them giving written infos. No story of the band, no notes, not even the mention of the album where each song is taken from. No nothing, really  :P

The DVD is, let's say, forgettable (amateurish videos), the music I don't know yet. So far I am in the middle of CD 2 and I could describe it as a mix between Ten and Sonata Arctica. I am rather confident that it will grip me more than Ten, though.

Teunis

Anathema - A Natural Disaster
'I will surrender my heart to the sky
Oh, our love doesn't end here, it lives forever on the wings of time'

Toto - Wings of time (Kingdom of Desire)

Surprising comparison, Bupie. I never thought of Sonata Arctica when listening to RH - but I know you like SA very much  8)

I actually find that RH are rather close to Arena  :)

Just goes to show how subjective the experience of music is  ;)

NP  Guilt Machine:  On A Perfect Day  (on repeat)   *horns*

And yes, Paxi, I will also get into Star One .....  :)

Toto - Wings of time (Kingdom of Desire)

PH

I listened to two fantastic albums:
Ayreon - "The Human Equation"
and
Steve Hackett - "Voyage Of The Acolyte"

I rarely see people mention Steve Hackett... Come on people! He is the guitarist of Genesis!!

Mystery - Beneath The Veil Of Winter's Face  8)

Mostly because I only have four albums of the man (EX-Genesis btw (mierenn**k*r-mode off).
Three best of-Genesis albums (revisted and live) and the one you are playing.

I really like the last two albums, especially the renewed Supper's Ready is awesome, but I hardly play the other two.

Shame though. He makes wonderful music.
Cause of Injury: Lack of Adhesive Ducks.

Elbow - Build A Rocket Boys!

Hopefully not!
I really like this cd, but I already have it. And another one wouldn't be very... practical...

Yes - "Going For The One"

Like it a lot! 8) The epic Awaken is indeed one of Yes' best works. At first I didn't really notice that.

PH

JP
Yes - "Fragile"

NP
Yes - "Relayer"

And I'll probably listen to "Tales From Topographic Oceans" next.

This is one of the albums that changed the World - of rock, at least *horns*

NP  Sepultura:  A-Lex

www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhe3g7SGAxI&list=PL7E2B5A29B178C372

This sounds very different from the early albums with the Cavalera brothers, almost like an entirely different group :o

Well, I'll have to hear more Sepultura before I make any more general statements  ..... ;)

Much more of a groove than on Chaos A.D., which was a bit much thrashy to my taste. A-Lex I'm considering buying :)

"A-Lex is the second concept album released by Sepultura, following 2006's Dante XXI which was based on Dante Alighieri's The Divine Comedy. A-Lex is based on the 1962 book A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess, which in 1971 was adapted into a film version by Stanley Kubrick."

Very interesting, ainit, and probably surprising to most Roomies that Sepultura are into this sorta stuff 8)

PP Fates Warning - FWX I just can't get into this one. The sound and general mood is too ... metallic and cold, if this can mean something :P I have the same problem with Rush, sometimes. This is a kind of music I lack empathy for.
JF Dream Theater - Images & Words I still have goosebumps listening to this one. Man, what a (positive) shock it was on first listen ! The set of tracks 2-5 is just outstanding and the second half of Learning To Live is almost perfect  *horns*
NP Haken - The Mountain This is challenging and demanding. I had the same feeling about Aquarius (I don't know Visions).

Bupie

NP Royal Hunt - 20th Anniversary

Well, I am trying ... and struggling :P But I confirm that I can indubitably hear some similarities with Ten.

Bupie, both with Ten and RH (and Van Halen), you should start with their best albums, resp. The Twilight Chronicles and Collision Course (and III), and take it from there. My experience is that the best albums give the best clues to digging a group  ;)

Somehow you always manage to avoid the best albums of groups, Bupie - donno how you do it  ???

OK, you got Priest's best, Nostradamus, but the key to this album is getting into the lyrics .....  :)
