Immortal are a no for me - the blast beats , satanic imagery and corpse paint are really not my thing at all.

Corpse paint, yes, that's obvious, Funky, but the satanic imagery ? It's more Norse paganism with Immortal. And blast beats ? That's more All That Remains, and even more, Vildhjarta. Immortal are more double-bass pummeling  ;D

Yeah, a year ago I would'v forsworn that I could become a fan of Immortal. And all of a sudden with Copenhell they became pantheon. How ones music experience can change :o

Look at how Paxi's experience of Yes has changed - super :)

It's like with everything in life: These sorta shifts show that the person participates, engages him/herself, deliberates, takes stances ... and all of a sudden has an experience that makes him/her change opinion completely - I think that's great  8)

NP  Clive Nolan (and friends):  Alchemy

I take it in parts. Takes time to get into the story.

Only Teunis and me who listen to Alchemy ?

Dya guys know who Clive N is ?  :P

Clive Nolan... yes... isn't that the guy who plays in a band called Amphitheatre or something?

Eventually I will listen to "Alchemy" but "She" was not much to my liking (it's probably not bad, I'm just not much into musicals), so I'm afraid it would disappoint me... :(

Teunis

Subsignal - Beautiful & Monstrous

Indeed, 8) band.

Today I played a few of my lesser played albums of 2013:

Steven Wilson - "The Raven That Refused To Sing (And Other Stories)"
I should play this more often. It's really good! The guitarist (who is not Steven) is really good! As is the drummer (who is Marco Minneman). I think this could be better than "Grace For Drowning".

Edenbridge - "The Bonding"
A pleasant listen, but "MyEarthDream" is far more better.

Moon Safari - "Himlabacken, Vol. 1"
This was actually my second listen because I only just bought it a few days ago. I'm very impressed! This is very nice symphonic prog. Sometimes it reminds me of A.C.T...

Sound Of Contact - "Dimensionaut"
Sorry Simon. But this is not really my thing I guess. Thanks to daddy, this band is hyped and a bit overrated if you'd ask me. There are a couple of nice tunes but it somehow feels forced to me.

Ray Wilson - "Chasing Rainbows"
I like this. Other than the aforementioned this doesn't sound forced to me at all. My only complaint is that the songs sound a bit alike. But it is very relaxed, happy and easy music.

She and Alchemy are very much about story. Clive concocts a good tale, and there's a lot to think about: Immortality, reincarnation, twin souls, love, fate, deviation from fate etc.

And there's some mighty good music here and there - well, trust il Maestro  *horns*

Paxi, you like Ayreon a lot. That's very much rock musical  ;)

Nick , are you serious after last week ?

Funky, if you'r a metalhead, you may do such things. So you and I can also rape babies and stuff. Alice Cooper paved the way long time ago.

;D

Yeah, I knew about that. Well, obviously some metallers are f'ed up in their heads. Dave Holland, Priest's drummer for many years, on British Steel amongst others, was also "found guilty of one charge of attempted rape and five counts of indecent assault of a teenage boy taking drum lessons at Holland's house" (Wiki), altho he himself "maintains that he is innocent and that the relationship with his pupil was not sexual". Whatever the case, it doesn't make BS less of a masterpiece.

NP  Subsignal:  Beautiful & Monstrous  &  Van Halen III  (both on repeat)

Some of you guys are into B&M, but none into VH III. Both albums are magnificent. You guys are missing out on something real BIG. Why the f* don't ya ever listen to a wise old man like me  ::)

I have seen these Von Hertzen Brothers mentioned everywhere. What kind of music is it?

PH

Yes - "Relayer"
Gates... is very nice indeed. I need some more work on the other two.

Hard to describe, it just rocks. Great guitar solos and the melodies appeal to me. You can read a review from Progwereld here (in Dutch) or have a listen on Progstreaming: here ;). I would suggest the last track to give you an idea.

Nothing but great songs, here 8) As I said countless times, I am often wondering if Steve Rothery had replaced John Petrucci for the guitar solo of Take Away My Pain since it has a 200% pure Marillion feeling.
