I have to admit that it does not move me

I too have to admit that Phideaux havent gripped me yet. I don't mind weirdness at all ;)  but I miss melody there  :-\

Bupie, how's it goin with Royal Hunt - has your Hunt (not Helen) begun (well, I know you like Paradox, you'll be surprised ....)  ;)

Bupie, try this one, think ya'll like it, wonderful atmospheres, a bit Porcupinetreeish, bit'o Muse too (hey Teunis). I'v become rather addicted:

NP  Guilt Machine:  A Perfect Day  (on repeat)

Well, I haven't received the Royal Hunt CDs yet and I can't watch YT from my computer at work. So the answers will come later  ;)

Fortunately not so much Porcupine Tree ::). (Hey Nicky), already own this album and like it a lot *horns* ;).

np: Sound Of Contact - Dimensionaut

NP Big Big Train - Make Some Noise

On progstreaming. Man, I love what I hear *horns* It's strange since all the songs but four come frome TEE Pt1 and 2. I own Pt1 and like it moderately and I did not buy Pt2 after a few unconvincing listens on progstreaming. But here I love everything -dont ask me why :o- so I guess that I will have to go for the full power thing  8)

NP Phideaux - Doomsday Afternoon

I know that many Roomies really praise this album. Iggy, didn't you write that it is one of your all-time favorites if not THE one ? Sorry but after almost a dozen listens during the past two years, I have to admit that it does not move me  :-[ It's pleasant, it's clever, I can see the point behind the story but unfortunately I am not moved not thrilled. That's it, too bad for me ...

Indeed it was me at least you have given it a chance. I also like No 7 but I guess you will probably give it a miss.

I am surprised that you think there is a lack of melody. There is definitely a lack of metal and growling  :D

Played recently Tommy - The Who

I suppose that the answer is yes since it fits the thread's title. Would you recommend it ?

@ Iggy. Actually, I have another Phideaux song, called Tempest Of Mutiny, on a CRS New Species free CD, and I find it great. So maybe I will try another of his albums.

NP Touchstone - Oceans Of Time

PH

*Ahem* right...

Now playing:

The Flower Kings - "Desolation Rose"

Already the first listen, this seems to sink in much better than all of my previous Flower Kings encounters.
"Banks Of Eden" initially disappointed me (like all TFK albums do), but eventually became a very listenable album for me (after multiple listens), and I even enjoy it now. ;D

Now I still need to get properly into "Paradox Hotel" and I'll work my way from there.

I've said it before, thay it frustrated me enormously that I didn't like The Flower Kings, since I LOVE everything Roine Stolt does. It seems that it's finally changing.

I wish I knew, just no click with their music and I've tried. Too complicated for me I suppose ;).

JP:
Guilt Machine - "On This Perfect Day"
I must say that I agree with Nicky. It has a bit of a Porcupine Tree feeling to it. The drummer, Chris Maitland, was of course a drummer for Porcupine Tree. So maybe he brought some of the tree into the mix.

NP:
The Flower Kings - "Desolation Rose"
This is going very well. At times, it reminds me a bit of Transatlantic! I always thought that honour went to Neal Morse's music, but here I definitely get a Transatlantic feeling.

Bupie

NP Fish - Field Of Crows
I own it for years but never had given it a proper and attentive listen. I am enjoying it big time right now (The Lost Plot is catchy as hell *horns*) even if I feel, as always with Fish's solo albums, that the soli (keys or guitar) are too often unimpressive.

PH

Spock's Beard - "Brief Nocturnes And Dreamless Sleep"

This is actually a perfect album. One of the best of the Beard and a very good start into a new era.

Teunis

Guilt Machine - On This Perfect Day

Haven't played it for ages, but somehow I was inspired to ::). Wow, impressed 8).

Can't imagine anyone who could do that  ;)

Yeah, I experience much more intensity than in my two Ayreon albums. Maybe it's cuz it was a catharsis for Arjen and Lori  8)

See, Teunis, Porcupine Trees grow all over the place  ;D

You don't listen to it for the solos, Bupie, you listen to it cuz of Fish's tremendous singing *horns*

If you want great guitar solos, then Outworld and Jeff Loomis are the answer (DT you already know). Rusty Cooley, Jeff L, and Master Petrucci are my fave guitarists. Listen to an old lead guitarist - who hasn't smoked more joints than he knows what he's talkin about  ;)

Just received from an Amazon shop:
