Wanted to buy this one, but ordered 'Far From Home' instead, which is a live album. It contains all the songs of this album though, like it a lot 8).

Seventh Wonder - The Great Escape
Lunatic Soul - Lunatic Soul II (The White Album)
'I will surrender my heart to the sky
Oh, our love doesn't end here, it lives forever on the wings of time'
-------------------------------------------------------
Toto - Wings of time (Kingdom of Desire)

Marillion - Sounds that can't be made

I had given up on H era Marillion as i found Somewhere else to be awful and nothing since then had passed my ears.

Not exactly a full return to form but a decent listen at least.

NP  Deathspell Omega:  Paracletus

Super  *horns*

I'v listened to it some ten times now, and it's still quite a mouthful  ;)

The music is severely challenging, and further, the lyrics, written in advanced English, French and Latin, call for some work on the part of the listener.

Wiki: "Paraclete (Gr. παράκλητος, Lat. paracletus) means advocate or helper. In Christianity, the term Holy Spirit most commonly refers to the paraclete."

The lyrical content is an unorthodox take on Christianity. But what ? Takes some effort to figure  ???

Gianni writes this - very fitting - about the album in his Amazon review:

"Upon completion of your first full listen of the album, don't expect to be anything other than fatigued. The mental exhaustion i speak of however is far from a bad thing, nor will it stop you from wanting to immediately give the album another spin. And then another one. And another one. No. This mental fatigue comes from the albums ability to shred all of your preconceptions of what dark music and black metal is capable of, and it's really infectious. On Paracletus, Deathspell Omega have manged to find the perfect balance between absolute twisted musical insanity and well crafted, beautifully dark melodies, which are presented through densely layered guitar work that literally leave you wondering how they came up with such genius ideas. This album is not only masterfully composed, but it's heavily progressive, and challenges some of the most atmospheric metal albums i've ever heard for the top spot."

However, I don't know whether any other Roomie wants to be challenged to that degree. Surprise me guys  ;)

The Frenchies are real good at this sorta intense intellectual dark metal - they seem to have a unique position there - why ?  There're also Gojira and Hacride. DsO and Gojira are pantheon with me. Hacride I have to check out - shortly  8)

Really like the album 'The World Is A Game'. The voice of Benoît David looks a lot like Jon Anderson, but fortunately the music is way better than Yes, which is making me nervous. All IMHO of course, I know some people like Yes over here ;).

Mystery - One Among The Living  (also 8))
Cosmograf - The Man Left In Space

::)

Do you have When Age has done it's Duty?  I prefer it to The Man Left in Space at the moment.

He indeed does sound like Jon A. but overall I think that his voice is more powerful than Jon A.
Which makes him a better singer in my book.
Jon A. is mostly the reason why I don't really like the music of Yes.

I can understand that. But Jon A's voice until recently was surprisingly powerful.

Having seen both at Yes concerts Jon's voice was better than Benoit's although he obviously had the advantage of writing the songs.

No, but heard it a few times (also on Progstreaming probably). I remember that I also liked that one, but it's too long ago to compare them now.

I would not be so harsh since I quite like the album but I can understand your point of view ... and the one you gave about recent H's Marillion too.

JF Dream Theater - BC & SL  *horns* James toning down his voice on DT last two albums is really a great idea IMHO

NP Marathon - The First Run

The opener, Beyond The Veil, is really a killer song. You take a bit of Rush, a bit of Saga, a bit of Pallas, a bit of Marillion, you add your own touch and you get this. As a downside for the youngsters, it has a strong 80's feeling despite being released in the mid 90's.

I remember them. Their first album was called "Crossroad" and it reminded me a lot of Spock's Beard/Neal Morse. Time to check these guys out properly this time.

By the way, there's also another pie you need to check out: Magic Pie. They have three albums out already and the second album is absolutely fantastic (it's in my top 5 releases of 2007). Also influenced by Dream Theater and Spock's Beard. Great music!

I was listening to Yes - "90125" on YouTube and liked it very much. Very much an 80s album, but (or should I say thus?) very catchy.
Now listening to Rush - "Snakes And Arrows" (also on YouTube) and I totally forgot how great this album is!

Nice album, that Crossroad.
If I recall correctly it's a concept album.
Unfortunately the vocals are horrible. :(
