Much the same as Priest undertook: More depth, feeling, groove, punch, keys, harsher singing, cutting guitar  8)

Seems like Beavis and Butt-head gave'm somethin to think about  ;)

Just finished playing:
Harmonium - "Si On Avait Besoin D'Une Cinquième Saison"

What a beautiful piece of music.

Sometimes I want to check out some highly rated 70s bands. Then I look on ProgArchives and I start listening to things like "Close To The Edge" and "Thick As A Brick". This time I saw that the band Harmonium was in the top 100 at number 15, with this album (with the long unspeakable French album title which I from here on will call 'album').
I really was wondering if any of you have actually heard of this French Canadian band, and of this particular album. It is really good!
Don't expect metal, don't expect swirling keyboards and thunderous drums, or guitarsolos or whatever. This is classic Symphonic Prog with meandering acoustic guitars, gentle flutes and passionate pianos.

Especially the last track on the album, which is the title track (you know, with the long unspeakable French title which I from here on will call 'title track'), is really beautiful!!

I'm going to listen to it again now.
Anyone who knows this band? Perhaps some French speaking roomies? Bupie?

Manatee

NP/JP: Every Arena studio album plus Live & Life (my entire collection)

Not a bad band.   ;)

Is there a stream or download of this available to listen to?  On ProgArchives, I only see two old songs.  I haven't heard of them before, by the way.  And how did you like Close to the Edge and Thick as a Brick?  Both excellent choices IMO.

No, I don't know Eleven, but I'll give em a try.

Just for the song Masquerade. A fine pop tune that can be heard during the closing credits of the movie Perfect.

Hm, I hadnt quite registered that  :-[

I suggest that you skip the first tracks initially, as they'r quite harsh. Start with Track 12, Lost Love, a beautiful love song, and take it from there  ;)

So it's a two against two!

The experienced combination of Bupie and me vs. the gripping claws of Nicky and Iggy!  ;D  *horns*  ;)

Well, not entirely true though.
I do like the album. I'm just not overwhelmed by it.  :-\ ;)

What do you think of that one?

I think it's not too great... I hope Mike Portnoy will delight us with some other projects.

I've got mixed feelings about the ep.
It's not bad, sort of grinding metal, a bit hardcore-ish but overall not brilliant.
I expected a bit more from the combination Portnoy/Allen.

QuoteI hope Mike Portnoy will delight us with some other projects.

He sure will. ;)
March 23 the new project of Steve Morse (Deep Purple), Neal Morse (no introduction and not related to Steve ;)), Dave Larue (session musician who worked with Steve Vai and Dixie Dregs among others), Casey Mcpherson (from a underrated band Mercury Rev, good band btw) and Mike Portnoy himself.
The project will be called Flying Colors. :)

Will post some info when I awake this afternoon. ;)
Am tired.
Going to sleep right now. :)

I'm now listening to Anathema's "We're Here Because We're Here".
This is my first listen and I'm currently listening to the fourth track, but it already sounds like a great album!
I also like their Best Of/'Remix' album "Falling Deeper".
I'm beginning to like this band! Raise your hand if you're a Anathema fan! ;D
