I'm now listening to Anathema's "We're Here Because We're Here".
This is my first listen and I'm currently listening to the fourth track, but it already sounds like a great album!
I also like their Best Of/'Remix' album "Falling Deeper".
I'm beginning to like this band! Raise your hand if you're a Anathema fan! ;D

I think Iggy will raise his hand too when he passes by : he is another great fan.

I only know Jugdment, which is supposed to be one of their best albums, and so far I am not so impressed. It's good but I have the feeling that I have heard it all before so many times ... I feel aboutthe same about Muse. Another drawback of aging ... But I will try again.

PP The Cars - The Cars
JF Simple Minds - New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84)
NP It Bites - The tall Ships

A poppy morning.

And another hand here! Have all their albums from Alternative 4 onwards and We're Here.. is their best yet, amazing album. A Natural Disaster is also highly recommended.

Honestly I don't get it. Little hint please for tired_of_dancings. :)
Ah, I know...its a secret code. I mean you are Nicky007!!

I have one album by Anathema - Alternative 4 and its a big thing for me. Beautiful and fragile.
BTW with the Pink Floyd covers as bonus tracks. Then I streamed a bit through the other Anathema albums and my impression is, it can't be topped.

Shroud Of False is one the best openers I ever listened to. One to have on repeat. Piano dominated and I love that.
I mean as music fans we know how music can touch souls.
And the main thing for me with Alternative 4 are emotions. Music to live in.
So deep and melancholic. Dark...revealing longings and regrets. All your despair, fear, hurt.
I was just around Anathema and Alternative 4 on lastfm and I've seen the tags depressive and even suicidal.
For me no hopeless and depressing music, happy to say that. I don't loose ground as someone would say "You are not alone, I can understand you".
And as it would be my affirmation, then later in 2011 listening to Dreaming Light from "We're here because we're here" I was overwhelmed. So bright, so much light in it. For me "Dreaming light" is so outstanding on the album, seems I have forgotten a bit about the rest.

New stuff coming soon. Who is curious, please see this vid from a recent gig in St. Petersburg. Very very promising. Just Danny Cavanagh, his wonderful voice and his piano.
Its the song "Untouchable". For the new album it will be recorded with an orchestra.
Wow, I can already hear the strings. Dreaming Light part 2.

NP  Winger:  Karma  *horns*

This album really fooled me  ???

I had never really listened to Winger before a couple of weeks ago, when I read a series of reviews at Amazon by S. Craig Caldwell, who displayed good taste (read: my taste), like he wrote that Seventh Wonder's Great Escape was his fave album. He had also written a review on Karma, where he enthused about how the guys had worked with their music since their heyday in the late 80's and early 90's, and how edgy and progressive they had become with Karma (2009).

Well, I thought I'd try'm out then. I started with the early albums. I could hear that, altho they played glam metal, they seemed to have more in'm than most other glam bands  :)

So I went on to Karma. OK, here was somethin that I could hear I would continue with. But still: edgy? progressive?

Now I'v listened a few times to Supernova, and it sure has crept under my skin. Kip's singing is so emotional, you really get that he's singing his heart out here. And on Witness too, man! And that guitar solo at the end - whew  *horns*

Bit like with Ten: nothin glamorous  ;)  nothin where you say: these guys are reaching for the stars (not anymore). Just real serious musicians tryin to make great music that gives us listeners a memorable experience, and keeps us hungerin for more. And yes, they succeed  *horns*

Guys  ;)

Winger:  Supernova   www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGlrM3h64-w

Winger:  Witness   www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWSVGcivuGs&feature=related

From Wikipedia (my boldface):  About this same time [mid-90's, nb], Lars Ulrich of the band Metallica could be seen throwing a dart on a poster of Kip Winger in the video for "Nothing Else Matters". When asked about this, Kip Winger once stated: "Our band was known to musicians, and a lot of musicians showed up to see me play — watching trying to figure out how I'm playing — we were like the 'hair band' [version of] Dream Theater ... That is why it's the great irony that we ended up on that geeky guy's shirt on Beavis & Butt-head, because Metallica couldn't play what we play, they couldn't do it, they literally — technically couldn't do it. And I'll fucking challenge those chumps to that any day of the week, but we could play their music with our hands tied behind our back. And so, I was a little t'd off about that, but in the end, none of that shit matters...8)

I'm usually not very fond of keyboard-extravaganza (you might ask yourself why I even bother with prog then) ;)

;D Tom

You should give Arcturus a run, just like Arena, a keyboard-based group, and also like Arena, avantgarde, and also a great group  *horns*

Currently I like Sideshow Symphonies best, but Sham Mirrors is fine too  8)

I think Mad likes'm too  :)
