Great progressive melodic metal. I had never heard of them until some minutes ago, but reading that James LaBrie was involved with their new album (to be released in March) made me curious so I checked out their MySpace. I like what I hear! 8) They reminds me of bands like Scorpions and Queensrÿche - listen to the song Judge Like Judas and you'll know what I mean *horns* - at times. Check it out guys!

Oh, and Nicky, how is your new job? Never mind ;D

I did indeed. When I saw you were online I thought: "Hey wait, I remember reading that he got himself a new job, let's ask him about it." Once I finished my post, you already told us about it, making the last part of my previous post a bit silly and useless... ;)

I think you will like them, so if you don't check 'em out it's your loss. :P

Very groovy and funky, a bit disco-like. Progressive? Not so much, but very enjoyable nonetheless. 8)

Anyone else into them?

They were one of the performing acts at the Nobel Peace Prize Celebration 2010. I saw'm, and they were quite good, but I'm not gonna actively pursue'm  :)

NP  Several Sparks albums  *horns*

I was happily surprised to see that they had a whole section at Cop Main Library with Sparks albums, ten different albums, so I took all ten  8)

Some 25 years ago, I had randomly heard some Sparks songs. When I started playing'm again this time around, I could of course recognise Don't Turn Your Back On Mother Earth and This Town Aint Big Enough For Both Of Us, but I couldnt have foreseen that Propaganda and other albums of that time would thrill me that much. And I'm hearing their later albums for the first time  8)

An underrated gem that deeply suffered of the NWOHM concurrence back in 1980 (!) but has aged very well, thanks to George Martin's production  8)

Wrong !  ;)

Admittedly Priest up to 1988 werent prog ... but then something started happening .....  :o

and Nostradamus from 2008 is prog bigtime - in all ways  *horns*

Unfortunately it looks like we won't get any further prog masterpieces from Priest  :(

Sparks have always been indie-prog right from the beginning some 40 years ago,

e.g.  www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSBNE9qnLaI&feature=related

+ all the links I'v posted earlier.

Funky, get into Nostradamus and Kimono My House (Sparks' best album imo) and you'l see I'm right  ;)

Here's a very funny history of Sparks, with samples of some of their best songs  ;D *horns*

I love Sparks Nick but they are not prog , maybe the most intelligent, funny and interesting pop band of the last 30 years but defo not prog.

As for Priest , 1 album does not make them prog.

Well now we have that sorted out  ;D  Listening to Ruun by Enslaved

Well now we have that sorted out  ;D

Funky, you'r becoming a nightmare  :P

Priest have been prog since 1990: Painkiller had the groundbreaking song Touch Of Evil, definitely prog, while the album itself could be called proggish. Then Jugulator (1997) and Demolition (2001), both with Ripper, both very different from earlier Priest albums, and both vintage prog, and then Angel Of Retribution (2005), with Rob back again, also progmetal of the highest quality.

And then of course their great masterpiece, integrating everything from their 40 years plus a lot more: Nostradamus.

So, Funky - plus several other Roomies - I'd like you now to get into these albums before you once again make fools of yerselves  ;) :)

Sparks have been into a lot of different stuff, from pop to prog. Their classic albums Kimono My House, Propaganda (both 1974), and Indiscreet (1975), can be characterised as both indie and prog, as prog as Arena.

"Prog or not?" is actually one of the few questions that have luckily not come up in the Room yet, because there was no reason. And please, fellas, don't let it get out of hands now. In the end we're all discussing taste here, and you know what that means, right.
