If you like Interzone Mantras then it's really worth to listen to Seven Circles. That album was the first album I heard from them (and sadly, it was also their last  :() and it really blew me away!  *horns*

I have Transmission and although not really my kind of stuff, I find it interesting and well done.

NP Blind Guardian : Somewhere Far Beyond

A true masterpiece. Theatre Of Pain and The Quest For Talenorn are incredible songs  *horns*

By the way, Nicky, I finally bought Nostradamus and it's on its way to my mailbox.

I don't know the other albums, but Interzone Mantras is a fascinating album. I'd think that all Roomies should enjoy it. The first two runs didnt grip me, but on the third it clicked, and the album has been growing since. As I wrote in my LP thread, I'v added The Tea Party to my prog pantheon on the basis of Interzone alone  *horns*

I can guarantee you that you won't be disappointed. It might take some runs before you realise _how_ awesome this albums is. After a few runs - by no means the first - let me hear your take on the album.

Three great videos:

The Tea Party:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFzQX2i6mwo

A rather simple song, but dig that VOICE, and catch all the stuff that goes on in the undergrowth. That's another big thing with Tea Party: all the subtle rhythmic twists and turns  *horns*

To-Mera:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kU26_Z5_YLo

Forget about Nightwish and all the other many saloon metal groups. To-Mera is the real McLadyMetal. See, the thing is that the guys on the instruments also wanna join the party - and they'r f*in good  8)

Arcturus:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IP7TzWbLWag

My overall fave music video. I can play this one again and again  *horns* *horns* *horns*

Notice particularly the keyboardist Steinar Sverd Johnsen. He's not just doin sweet stuff on the keybards, no, he's completely upfront, part of the edge. He's also "the main composer for the band." - Wikipedia, Steinar Sverd Johnsen

This is a guy to keep a lookout for  :)

So, just diggin some great music before drivin off to family in Blekinge (eastern Sweden) to celebrate midsummer  8)

Whoa, that's ... steaming :) Very catchy.

And concerning his voice... I had to think for a while of who he reminds me.... and digging in the depths of my brain I came up with: Blaine L. Reininger.

Blaine L. Reininger.

Had to google him, Cap  ???

One of the core members of Tuxedomoon, which I hadnt either heard of  ???

From a kraut family too probably  ;)

Tuxedomoon is a Frisco group, which bodes well, but the "experimental, post-punk, new wave" tagging of Wiki points away from my core taste  :-\

Anyone here like this group ?

Artillery - By inheritance

That's a Danish metal group. Heard a bit of their stuff on cd's, but it didnt grip me  :-\

Funkster, tell us if there are any of those metal groups that you can recommend to us - and why  ;)

NP  Isis:  Panopticon

US post-metal group (Boston & L.A.), in turn very distorted and clean.

Gave'm up some three years ago, and was willing to give Panopticon away, but fortunately I kept it, cuz there are several of my (2. world) friends who listen to'm ... so I guess I gotta too  ;D

Giving me a hard ride tho  :-\

Listened to a lotta Tea Party during the car ride to & fro Blekinge, cuz fortunately Ms 007 likes'm too - Interzone Mantras, Seven Circles & Triptych, all great albums, and very different  8)

JP: Anathema - Judgement

NP: Anathema - A Natural Disaster

For some reason I thought Judgement was from after Lee joined as a full member.  Turns out it's older than that, but happily it's an excellent album anyway.   ;D

Based on the Room reviews, I think the new one will be purchased soon.

Gues it's not my cup of tea. ;)

Oh yeah, Cloudkicker is indeed pretty good.
I've downloaded the album The Discovery (for free) from his site and I really like it.
Expected something different though. A bit avant garde, which Cloudkicker is not.

Hmm, personally I can't really compare it with Arjen.
It's good, that's for sure. The Guitarist knows how to play the strings.
It sometimes reminds me of Hourglas. Long drawn out musical ideas... Like it!

Thanks.  ;)

Hm, I would say that the singing is quite good, but the music has nothing to do with prog, more saloon metal. There's so much of this around, I wonder why they keep on making more  ::)

Again, guys, if ya wanna experience top-league progmetal with a woman as lead vocalist (I simply can't get myself to write "female vocals" "female vocalist" or "female singing"), then To-Mera are among the best. Require some effort, but doesnt everything that has real value ?  ;)

Watching To-Mera's Blood as we eh... speak. ;)

Edit: If you like this, then you should give Epica a try.
A bit more thrashy (Funkster might like it also) then To-Mera.

Or After Forever.

Especially the latter is not so different from To-Mera from what I can tell.

Especially the latter is not so different from To-Mera from what I can tell.

Sorta like Suede and Arena are "not so different": Both have male singers, who sing in English, and there are some drums, bass and guitars  ::)

Always depends on the view/viewer  ;)

I like After Forever, particularly their self-titled album  8)   but progressive ? - hardly.

To-Mera otoh are not only progressive, they're groundbreaking. These guys are continuously pushing their limits - I mean, that should be obvious  *horns*

Another groundbreaking group:

NP  Nevermore:  The Obsidian Conspiracy

It's dawning upon me that not only have Nevermore created another masterpiece, but that Obsidian is one of the absolutely most thrilling albums in our times  *horns*

But admittedly for the few  ;)

JP  Between The Buried And Me:  Colors

These guys definitely are gifted, and they have carved their niche in progmetal, but I think they still need to get their act together more (like e.g. Nevermore have). Their music seems rather disparate to me; you wonder whether this passage could just as well have been connected to that piece, sorta. Also, I dont mind when vocals are distorted, like e.g. in growl, but when I no longer can distinguish the words, even straining, I start to wonder whether they really believe enough in what they'r doing  ???

See, that's where I don't agree. ;)

If After Forever isn't progressive, what I agree with you, then I would say the same thing about To-Mera.

From what I heard, keep in mind that I only have heard and seen the Youtube videoclips, is that they aren't so different from After Forever, except maybe the lack of growls.
Musically they treading the same paths.
