Teunis, have you ever considered the possibility of listening to something that you enjoy ?  :P
Wow, good idea  ;). Frankly, I just did. My second purchase turned out really well. I knew that, because I have heard the album a few weeks  ::): Antimatter - Leaving Eden. I wish that I did that with the Asia album as well, but I own all their (studio) albums and I just love John Wetton's voice. But this album is quite boring.

np: Adagio on MySpace thanks to Nicky. Boy, those guys look very dangerous, don't wanna meet them in the dark  ;D. Sounding like Kamelot, but the background vocals are a bit 'grunty', at least on the track I heard.

Recently returned from a loud visit (4 kids) to my brother's house in Virginia.  We went to see Elvis Costello there.  Odd concert.  Oldest crowd I've seen yet.  No percussion, everything done country style.  Was sort of fun but not the kind of thing I'd want to hear every day.  Pity I didn't visit a few weeks later -- Porcupine Tree playing at the same venue.  I might even be making some progress getting my brother to like PT.

You mean that Nicky, you or I could have felt like youngsters there ?  ;D

NP Blind Guardian - A Twist In The Myth

I think that A Twit In The Mist would have been a more original title. Of course, it would have fit less to the cover artwork unless you add a walker or a dove to the picture ...

Blind Gurdian:  Imaginations From The Other Side

8) Enjoyed it a lot more than last time, some years ago.

You'r right, Bups, they require some careful listening to sink in properly.

Now I'l return to'm occasionally.

Thanx for yer persistence, Bups  :)

NP  Bullet For My Valentine  on  MySpace

http://www.myspace.com/bulletformyvalentine

There's a lotta talk about'm these days, so I had to give'm a run  ;)

Pleasant surprise, must say. Not at all as harsh as I had got the impression of from reviews and comments. Heavy alright, and thrashy, but also fine (clean, Teunis) singing and melody  8)

Also Bowie's "Heroes", Outside, Ziggy Stardust  *horns*

Actually yes, the Danish group Mew. Close to Sigur Ros and Radiohead, but else quite original, ethereal and subtle  :)

And then there's Elbow from Manchester, popular with several Roomies.

You can find both on MySpace.

Was sort of fun but not the kind of thing I'd want to hear every day.

I was crazy about Imperial Bedroom in those days, listened to it over and over. Enjoyed some other albums from his time with the Attractions too.

Lately I tried Costello again, but sadly there was nothing that really gripped me  :-\

Well, I'l try again .....

"All of the band's lyrics are written by Nolan." As far as I know, that's not entirely correct. Clive writes most of the lyrics, and ends up writing the last versions, but to my knowledge the other guys contribute to the lyrical process.

Guys, some of you know more about this than I do  ;)

I thought I had  replied to this a while ago, but seems I didn't actually post/save my reply correctly. The lyrics and concepts are all Clive. If I remember correctly (must check the old Cage mags), the only lyric that wasn't just Clive's is Sirens. The Sirens lyric was suggested by Mick, who stated that he "said all he wanted to say" with that.

Yeah, but do the Priest links first, Tom, before all that's forgotten. I actually spent a looong time finding those very special songs  ;)

Nicky, you'll be pleased to know I dived into Priest (not literally of course...) and although I need to spend some more time with them our relationship is off to a great start. Now how does that sound? :P

QuoteRemember, you'r a grownup man now; you have yer woman to love and respect, and yer cat to feed and buy wallpaper for; you can't just follow your whims  ;D

Yes she did. Did you know she's a full-time bandmember these days?

QuoteAmorphis:  Skyforger

I'v had it on repeat for several days now.

And Amorphis are going straight to my pantheon  :)

Never thought that I'd be sooo taken by a Finnish group, but now it happened.

Thanx again, Tom.

Great! 8)

Can only agree !  I'v been addicted to it lately - better than heroin !

Tom, Eclipse (third album back) seemed rather tame in comparison. Silent Waters (second) I havent really listened to properly. But they sure got it right with Skyforger - mmmmmmmmmm

And I'd think that all Roomies could go for it, it's so smoooooooth  8)

To my mind, the best Danish progmetal group.

Nah, I wouldn't compare them with Muse or Coldplay but they're mainstream for sure. Even more so than Mew. Their sound is very polished (not to be mistaken with Polish) but they got some good songs with killer hooks. Of course it's not really prog, but what does it matter? *horns*

I really like this song very much: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfd78u5p9z4

I don't find Mew mainstream at all. They're very original. It's a genre that's rather far from my fave groups, but giv'm that they'r creative and original  8)

Hey Tom, how did ya like the Priest soundbytes ?  Lost And Found with Ripper is great ainit ?  It's on Demolition - fabulous album too !

There's another wonderful song on Dem, but I couldnt find it on YouTube or MySpace:  Close To You - a song that brings tears to my eyes. About a guy and a gal in true love ... and then suddenly the gal dies  :(  Oh man, that song cuts into my heart  :-* :'(

You're right, they're not really mainstream, let me rephrase that. I meant that they are quite easy to listen to, even though a lot of their songs aren't your standard 4/4 songs. One of Mew's biggest strenghts (imo) is that they make complicated songs sound 'mainstream'.

Gamma Ray - To the metal

Think Nicky would like this due to the Priest influences

Nicky007

Funkster, I have tried Gamma Ray a few times, but I think they'r too regular for my taste, and if I remember correctly, the lyrics aint too interesting.

But if you disagree, or have a hot link, then bring it on  ;)

Played:  Elvis Costello:  The Delivery Man

Some expressive singing, some nice melody, fine musicianship, but it doesnt really grip me, not at all the way Imperial Bedroom did 30 years ago  :-\

NP  Glenn Tipton:  Baptizm Of Fire

This is nothing near regular  ;)  *horns*

Avenged Sevenfold May 4 at 12:36pm Report

After having had such an amazing experience recording my drum tracks for the new Avenged Sevenfold album, we all knew it would be awesome if I'd be able to do some touring with the band after its release...

I am happy to say that the timing worked out perfectly that my touring cycle with Dream Theater (and Transatlantic) was coming to an end just as A7X's was scheduled begin!

(well, perfect for everyone except my poor family!) : )

Although I wish I could stay on board with A7X in a more permanent capacity, the reality is that I am committed to Dream Theater as my main priority (that is my baby after all!), and I will need to resume work with DT to start a new album at some point in 2011....

However, I will be able to join my brothers in Avenged Sevenfold for at least the duration of their touring throughout 2010...and hopefully this will give them the time to continue to heal and get comfortable back on the road....

You can look at me like the band's "rebound drummer" to buy them some time until they are comfortable and ready to make a commitment to somebody new for full-time relationship in their future!

In the meantime, I am real excited to hit the road with the boys...to bring my drumming from their new album to life on stage and to honor The Rev with all of their older material....

(Hey, do I get to have a cool, bad-ass stage name now???) : )

C-ya out there,
