NP: Arena - The Visitor

Now and then it's good to remember where we are, especially since the music is remarkable.   *horns*

Now we just need that new album to buzz about...

For me, it usually adds rather than detracts to hear other takes on lyrics than my own, but I respect that we're different there, Greenie  :)

I take it that there are some lyrics that you'd be happy to discuss ?  ;)

Certainly.  Actually, when it comes down to it, there are probably only a handful of lyrics that I really want to cling to my interpretations of.  Off the top of my head, I can't even come up with which ones they are -- I just know them when I hear them.  Sometimes with albums that really move me, I'm almost afraid to read the lyrics included in the CD booklet for fear that I'll read something that will break the magic.  These are exceptions rather than the rule though.

Well, I found the complete set of lyrics for Night forya, Greenie:  http://www.leoslyrics.com/albums/52059/;jsessionid=2823D473652B21607F59340FBE3A9BD8

In general, to find lyrics, google  'band'  'song/album'  lyrics

There are a lot of dumb cookies on the lyrics sites, but you get used to it.

Thanks for that, Nicky.  I read em and am appropriately boggled, which I usually view as a good thing with lyrics -- harder to get tired of them while you're still trying to puzzle them out.  I was most interested in 'Dream of Stone,' which I consider the particular masterpiece on that masterpiece of an album.

As an aside, I often find that reading the bare lyrics of a song without benefit of hearing the music they're meant to be heard with seems somewhat hollow -- I'm not sure how it is that instruments speak, but it seems like part of the message is not in the words alone but also the music.  Does that make sense to anyone else?

Back from another hospital stay. Getting back into it with Genesis, Wind and Wuthering, and Trick of the Tail

Sounds disturbing, Aswas (the hospital visits, not Genesis). Are you getting better ?  :)

Right, Greenie.

Two years ago, I had a period of several months when I was listening to virtually Arena alone, particularly Visitor and Contagion. Just ask Ms 007 (but dont ask her about/for more - I know yer style, Greenie). So I'v expressed my devotion to this great group  *horns*

I'm curious to know which ones - if this aint too intimate too, Greenie - cause then I know they'r good and I'l look'm up  :-*

Exactly, Greenie. That's what I'v been saying all along - in my words, of course  8)

NP  DT:  Scenes From A Memory  (on repeat)

I must have heard this album about 200 times now. I regard it as one of the alltime greatest cultural classics, on line with Wagner's Parsifal and Rachmaninoff's 2nd Piano Concerto (the Rach-2)  *horns*

Rock has really come of age now. Fine burghers of the world (not the cheesy ones, Greenie):  You can no longer ignore rock as a major cultural factor  8)

There sure is a lot to discover and think about in Scenes. I'v figured out quite a bit, I think, but I still can't get The Sleeper and The Miracle properly in place in the grand scheme of things.

Guys, I'd like some response on this. I know that there are several of you who have immersed yourself in this work. I'm tired of talking with myself in the Room (and who knows, maybe some of you are tired of reading my lengthy takes on all sorta stuff), so come outta yer holes - Please! as Paxi would have me say  ;D

Thanks, Paxi, that was very informative. I'v printed it out.

I didnt expect that Wiki would have such a detailed explanation. Great  *horns*

Wiki writes that Victoria was a previous incarnation of Nicholas. In the lyrics of Through My Words this is not so unambiguous  ???

The Wiki explanation is particularly useful for Scene Nine, where very surprising things happen and are resolved, binding together this entire fantastic epos into a tight unit. Man, what a thrill  *horns*

Guys, don't these things interest you  ???

I don't know for sure, but sometimes it seems to me that there is an abyss between the world of philosophy and theosophy on the one hand, and progworld on the other. Groups like DT, Arena, Kamelot, SyX, and Ten bridge these two domains convincingly, and I like to consider myself as one who does too, but I'm puzzled as to why so few proggies are truly interested in the philosophical scope of such epic albums as Scenes.

Is there something I'm unaware of here, guys ?

Take a better look. ;)

I simply LOVE these kind of stories. And I also LOVE clever and/or poetic lyrics. I like to read them, analyse them and enjoy them!

Today I was gobsmacked by Hogarth's "I want to be someone who someone would want to be" (Neverland, Marbles). Not particularly poetic/clever, but still very much enjoyable and a good find.

I want to be someone someone would want to be someone someone would want to be someone someone would want to be someone someone would want to be
