Depends:  If you take "progressive" in the broad sense, i.e. a band that works hard to break new ground with each new album, I'd definitely call Radiohead progressive  *horns*

Nicky.

I agree, although in this case I don't think it's a good thing.  They started out quite good and got even better for a couple of albums.  They definitely didn't stand still after that, but unfortunately, I think they got progressively less listenable.  Being willing to take chances is progressive, but I think one must always keep in mind that if an experiment goes awry, it can and should be edited or discarded rather than released as an album as is.  That said, 'Karma Police' alone justifies their existence.  Bogglingly great song IMO.  Incidentally, I think that might be one of the songs, where I want to keep my own ideas of what the lyrics mean.

Songs like 'Fake Plastic Trees' and 'Street Spirit (Fade Out)' aren't too bad either... ;)

NP: Circus Maximus - Isolate

This one is still one of my favourite prog-metal releases of the last few years. Until today I didn't listen to it for quite some time, but now I got back to it and it's like I'm listening to it for the very first time. Still sounds as great (if not even better)!! *horns*

True, but that was during the first few albums, when they hadn't progressed their way out of being music yet.  Pity they went that way.  A lot of songwriting talent there.

NP: Riverside - Live in Amsterdam (live companion DVD to ADHD)

I love this.   *horns*

Well, although I like their earlier material better, I'm able to enjoy their latest output as well. It's so different compared to the rest of their catalog and while some may hate that, I really appreciate that they chose to take their music in a whole other direction and try new things, explore new ground.

I do appreciate the exploration, but in the end, most of it is just too formless and blah for me.  Maybe it would sound better if Steve Hogarth took over the vocals.   ;D

Now: Meat Puppets - Huevos

I think I'l stay clear of'm, if only cause'o the name  ;D

Otoh, I am a bit curious:  Whadare they like, Jonesy ?

NP  Seventh Wonder:  Become and Waiting In The Wings  (on repeat)

This is one'o the most progressive progmetal bands; moderately heavy, melodic, and always edgy and experimental.

Their lyrics are quite special too. I can only relate to few of'm  ???

I think that SW fit quite well into the Room; oughta become a staple group here, don't ya think, Tom and Jerry (read: Mad) ?  ;)

Yes as long as they're given a chance they may be able to convert some Roomies into their music, which is great! I only have Mercy Falls so I can only comment on that album but if Become and Waiting In The Wings are only half as good they are mighty fine albums! 8)

NP: Abigail's Ghost - d_letion

Also a mighty fine album. :D

Radiohead are progressive allright and I don't think their evolution is a bad thing/direction. Kid A - Amnesiac - Hail To The Thief are certainly harder to digest, but very rewarding, there's a lot of great stuff on there. Great, moody, dense, atmospheric albums. Personally, I think In Rainbows is the best they've done, a perfect blend of their earlier songwriting and later experimentation, really love that album.

I definitely agree with you there.
They are a modest progmetal band. Nothing over the top, just pure and simple.
Mercy falls is a gem but Waiting is very good as well.
Become as a debute is nice but they've evolved ever since.

In the car: Blind Ego - Mirror
Whichever of our fine young Dutch lads mentioned this was right: this album is schizophrenic -- it's half rockers (and featuring JM, I believe) and half squishier stuff.  I like the rockers a lot and am still pondering how much I like the others.

On the way back: Martin Orford - Classical Music and Popular Songs
Nice keys, nice guitars, nice album.   *horns*

Punky grungey rock with a little bit of country thrown into the mix.  If you've heard Nirvana's 'Unplugged' album then you've heard 3 tracks.

NP: Transatlantic - SMPT:e

You never told us if you like it ?

QuoteHad a lot on my mind, including a few women, although less than the Iggles' quota of 7.

I was going to re-write this sentence in my own way but I won't give this pleasure to Nicky ...  ;D

Ok, I can't resist  :P : had a few on my mind, including a lot of women, way more than the Iggles' quota of 7

NP Def Leppard - X

This album received such severe bashing from both press and fans that I am always amazed to enjoy it so much at each listen. The first seven songs flow like in a dream and Long Long Way To Go is probably my fave Lep's ballad (although the band didn't write it).

Yes, a good solid album.  Not their best, to my ears, but then not everything can be! 8)

Yes indeed, I do like SMPT:e.  I think it's a grower too since I enjoyed this last play more than the prior ones.  All of the Above seemed particularly impressive, especially since it's longer than a lot of whole albums were some 40+ years ago.  And Mystery Train is just plain fun.   *horns*   Along with most of the rest of you, I intend to buy the new Transatlantic when it comes out.

You must be a good lawyer.  That kind of thing gets guys in trouble.  Maybe not so much in France?  I think I currently have about 4 on my mind, which makes me amply confused.  If you're above 7, you're definitely not "takin' it easy."   ;)

NP: Little Feat - Waiting for Columbus

I should be asleep, and my mind is way too tired to process prog.
