Ten - Twilight Chronicles.

I'm not often in an AOR mood these days, apart from the odd bit of Styx, but Nicky has effectively reminded me I haven't played this one in a while...

Well, I think we all can agree that it's really good AOR. Definitely as good as Asia's first album. ;) ;D

Saga - Saga.

That was a short post, Jonesy  ;D

Is that their debut ?  What's it like ?

Lazuli is a French progressive rock band. The lyrics are in French as well... ;) I saw them when they were supporting Riverside last December and I have to say: They were the best support-act I've ever seen! Great talented musicians, and very professional. So after the concert I bought their latest album and although I don't play it very often, I like it a lot! If www.fabchannel.com still existed I would have gave you the link so you could see the concert for yourself, but since it's gone I can only give you a link to their MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/lazuliworld

Anyone familiar with them? Bupie?

Yes, it's their debut.  Typical Saga, doesn't really suffer from being the first if that's what you mean. Personally I'd rate it as the best of the first three.

I heard about them but never listened to their music.

I am curious to know what Asia song you are reffering to, Nick ? In French, we call it mauvaise foi  ;D  You won't believe it but I find some Asia's lyrics moving (The Last To Know, for instance).

NP Fates Warning - Parallels  In French, we call it chef d'oeuvre  8)

What would be your pick to discover Saga, Steve ? Worlds Apart seems to be a strong contender (I think I heard -and liked- On The Loose a few decades  :P ago) ?

'Worlds Apart' is as good a place to start as any, it was actually the first one I ever bought.  I followed it up with 'Behaviour' and 'Wildest Dreams' and all three are special to me because of the nostalgia angle.

But there's lots of other good stuff, lately I'm hugely impressed with 'Security of Illusion' for example.

NP: Ozric Tentacles - Sunrise Festival.

I of course made it up, Bupsie, just to make my point. (You know me by now, dontcha) ;D

Depends on what one goes for, Bups  :)

I go mainly for social, philosophical, and mythological lyrics. They may be poetic like Steven Wilson's (e.g. see below), or weird like Warrel Dane's.

If the lyrics don't challenge my intellect sufficiently, the music sure's gotta be good (like Chris Cornell and Korn).

Wishbone Ash - Argus

Not often my first choice when I want to pick a CD but very rewarding at each listen. A bit like those obscure movies that you don't want to watch, fearing to get bored, and that you finally enjoy very much  8)
