Seattle was rather a hotbed for music at one point (may still be for all I know).

I'd go as far as saying that Seattle (as I also have suggested earlier in the Room) has been the prog capitol for 2-3 decades. Just mention Queensrÿche, Alice In Chains, and Nevermore  *horns*

... and then there are the many other fine groups and artists: Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Screaming Trees, Mudhoney, Soundgarden, Jerry Cantrell, Chris Cornell, Eddie Vedder, Mark Lanegan .....

In my cd-collection, considering releases from 1980 on, my guess is that 1/3 of them are by Seattle acts  8)

What's interesting is that Seattle is the best educated city in the States, and probably in the world - and I can't help thinkin that Bill Gates has somethin to do with it  ???

So next question: What's the connection between Gary H and Bill G  ??? ??? ;D

In the right direction.  ;D

OK, so is "right" somehow connected with "great" here ?  ;D

OK, so after some trials and tribulations we arrive at the answer - or should I say more precisely: at the provisional answer. Cause now we have to direct our attention to the person, i.e. change your attitude, Mad. And that just might have somethin to do with a certain ¨  ;D

Airbag - Come On In.

Despite being the first demo and a low bitrate, I think this one's awesome.  I'm playing it for the third time in a row *horns*

So next question: What's the connection between Gary H and Bill G  ??? ??? ;D

That would depend on who Gary H is.    ???

I've just spent the last two hours in rather unpleasant NY traffic.  Apparently St. Patrick's Day being festive doesn't extend to green aquatic mammals.  Fortunately, something nice and loud arrived in the mail because I need it:

NP: Devin Townsend - Physicist

Dream Theater ~ Red Hill Mining Town

Yep, a u2 cover.  ;)

I feel better already.  This one's a nice skull-pounder -- supposedly his least subtle album aside from Strapping Young Lad stuff, which iggy accurately characterized as "noisy."    *horns*

Gary Hughes, the principal of Ten, a Manchester-based moderately heavy proggish group.

All other active roomies know that, as I'v mentioned him here once or twice .....  ;D

Ten are one of my fave groups, and I consider their music and lyrics to be quite close to Arena. For reasons unknown to me, the other roomies don't believe me on this matter, and to my knowledge, nobody else here has tried out Ten properly. A shame  :'(

Nicky.

One of the post-Dominici singers of Dream Theater before Kevin James Labrie stepped into the ring.
He actually never got further than audition if i remember correctly.

I'm now playing A Change Of Seasons which is a different version than the one we all know. Not 23 minutes but 17 minutes and with, of course, a different singer: Chris Cintron.
I must say that the James-version is better. Waaayyyyyy better.

With Chris Collins they did a few tours but that was even before Dominici, the Majesty-years so to say.

Yeah, I know that DT spent a real long time trying out a score of singers after they parted ways with Charlie Dominici.

Jamie is probably better than all the others they tried, but I sometimes wonder what it would'v been like if they had gotten Geoff Tate or Russ Allen. They would certainly have had more singing. But then maybe the other guys wouldnt have exerted themselves quite as much  ???

Lots of stuff one can wonder about  :-\

But honestly, I don't do that much. I'm very happy with DT as they are, and in my book they have become better and better with each album  *horns*

Funny thing is, i can understand why people are 'complaining' about James and the name Russell is frequently mentioned when people discuss about it but to be honest:
I can't picture Dream Theater without James.  :-\

Granted, live he's not in his best form, especially lately i might add but overall his voice fits with the music of DT and the music of DT is combined with James voice.

Just an opinion.  :)

NP  Queensrÿche:  Empire  (on repeat)

I must have played this album at least eight times today. Sooo much to be discovered. Must'v arrived at some sorta Queensrÿche-mode  ;D *horns*

Okay, here's the deal:

As you may or may not know i'm a huge fan of comics.
Spiderman, Batman. That kind of stuff.

And one of those comics i've been collecting for over 25 years now: The X-men. Astonishing, Stunning, New, X-factor. Name it, and i want it.
The X in the icon is the X of X-men.

Aha, well that's something new I learned today.  Not sure I see a connection between him and Bill Gates though, unless Bill Gates is a big Ten fan.  Assuming you mean the Manchester in the U.K., that's a bit of a hike from Seattle.
I haven't heard Ten yet, so I have no comment yet as to their Arena-ishness.  I'll see what I can do about giving them a listen though.

I was just spinning further on some associations, but that sure was lost on you  ::)

;D

I wouldnt mind having a connection to Bill Gates tho. He'd fix my bills with a wave of his hand  :D

Actually, more seriously, he's one of the few big shots with whom I'd gladly have a chat. Quite a personality and sharp mind  8)

I'll see what I can do about giving them a listen though.

I have the latest six of their studio albums. They're all excellent, but the one I recommend to roomies is the latest, The Twilight Chronicles.

Gary Hughes' "solo" project Once And Future King (based on the Arthurian legends) is fabulous too. There's not much "solo" over it, as he's assembled a score of great musicians who who give it their all.

I aint gonna write more about Gary Hughes and Ten, as I'v already written a great deal earlier  ;)
