That's why I wrote "recent," Mad. Live In Athens is from 1999. IE have progressed a lot since then - actually like any true prog group would. The albums to get are Framing Armageddon (2007) and The Crucible Of Man (2008), which are Part I & II of a very intriguing epos, an extension of the Something Wicked storyline. These two albums are terrific, and I recommend them highly to people who like very heavy progmetal like Scar Symmetry and Nevermore.

But OK, Mad, you're    about these two groups .....

From IE's official website icedearth.com, notes to The Crucible Of Man:  "... it would seem that the innumerable trials and tribulations mainman Jon Schaffer has undertook over the decades as an uncompromising and never-totally-satisfied songwriter/musician were part of an otherworldly grand design that gave Schaffer the beastly prowess he needed to tell a story of unprecedented originality in metal music. That story is of course the Something Wicked Saga. While Schaffer hinted at what was to come on 1998's Something Wicked This Way Comes disc, it wasn't until 2007 that the stars aligned and the story could be revealed in detail with the release of Framing Armageddon – Something Wicked Part I. And although The Crucible Of Man is the hard-charging sonic conclusion of the Something Wicked Saga, fans can expect the story to continue in other media such as print and possibly film in the future."

As far as I understand this very complicated plot, the Setians are banished to the mountains, where they witness "mankinds dishonesty" and "human hypocrisy," which convinces them that they have more of a right to possess the earth. There's of course a lot more going on.

The music itself is some of the best progmetal around 

Tim Ripper Owens sings tremendously on Armageddon. Unfortunately they didnt/couldnt keep him for Crucible, on which Matt Barlow sings; he's fine too, but I find that Ripper is better for this stuff.

I heard a track from her solo album -- it's pretty good and definitely sounds like you'd expect, although somewhat less metallic than Nightwish.  Personally, I'm rather smitten with Anette.

Once again, Jon & Vangelis. BIG difference: Vangelis alone moves dangerously near lounge. Jon & Vangelis are metaphysical and wonderful

But I watched the End of Innocence DVD last night and I must admit that it must not be easy to stay on the road for months with those guys. Let's say that they have a primary sense of humor, to say the least
