I'm now listening to some Rush songs.
"2112" at the moment.
It struck me how much Geddy's voice sounds like Herman Saming's (A.C.T). Or the other way round of course!

I like it very much. :)

Nice to see you again, Manatee  :)

There are a lot of great prog metal groups around, Manatee. Dream Theater is the Room favorite (and they certainly merit it), and if you ask me (you don't need to:), there's also Nevermore, Opeth, Scar Symmetry, Fates Warning, Redemption, Circus Maximus, Seventh Wonder, Kamelot, Queensrÿche, Vanden Plas, Sieges Even, and Angra, just to name a few of my fave groups.

If you look around in the Room, you'l find many more.

Nicky.

Hi again, Nicky

Yep, yep, I've heard a number of these.  There's some good stuff there, but Devin Townsend's the first one to really resonate with me.  I keep trying to be a Dream Theater fan, but they just don't do it for me, although I have found a few really good songs of theirs (As I Am comes to mind).  Part of it may be that I really don't enjoy James Labrie's voice much.  I've heard a few really good Opeth songs from Damnation recently -- that's on my possible buy list.  From what I read, that's not their usual style though.

NP: Porcupine Tree - Fear of a Blank Planet - My Ashes

OK, Mad, I found the following  :)

Well, actually I do know Redemption. It's with Ray Alder, vocalist from Fates Warning which I happen to like a lot too.  ;)

But we two seem to be rather alone with this pleasure  :-\

As far as I can appraise our fellow roomies, FW should be more to their taste than DT  ???

In a sense, yes, but then again, Opeth are one of the most diverse groups.

Get Watershed, a top-league album that can provide endless hours of enjoyment, Manatee  ;)

I REALLY enjoy Jim Matheos' guitar playing on OSI! And Fates Warning are still on my "to discover"-list.
I will get there eventually! ;)

Today I listened to a bit of Spock's Beard's "Snow" (will do the rest tomorrow) and Gazpacho's "Night" which is ideal for a late evening.
I'm now listening to Vangelis' "Spiral".
The last song to be precise: 3 + 3.
After that I'm going to bed!! Finally!

I thought a walkman is for playing casette-tapes, and a discman for playing cd's...But whatever, it's not very important, or is it? ;)

Ya have to know what to put in it - a cd or a cassette tape - so in that way it is important, Tom.

A walkman is for walking, and a discman for disc-ussing/talking, and as I walk my talk, my discman is a walkman !

???

OK, Wiki - Walkman:  The names "Walkman", "Pressman", "Watchman", "Scoopman", "Discman", and "Talkman" are trademarks of Sony, and have been applied to a wide range of portable entertainment devices manufactured by the company. Sony continues to use the "Walkman" brand name for most of their portable audio devices, after the "Discman" name for CD players was dropped in the late 1990s. According to Sony, the plural form is "Walkman Personal Stereos", rather than "Walkmans" or "Walkmen" (presumably to preserve their trademark on "Walkman").

What's your take ?

I think this album is their most complete album to date. I like the fact that there are more shorter songs to be found here than on e.g. Frances The Mute. I think these relatively short songs make it easier to listen to the album in one take...At least it worked that way for me.

But, as with many other bands, I really have to be in a certain mood to be able to really enjoy TMV. This morning I was in that mood. *horns*

What kinda band is Presto Ballet?

Everything you always wanted to know about Presto Ballet but was afraid to ask.  ;D

Nah, just kidding.  ;)

Presto Ballet is the side project of Kurt Vandenhoof, lead guitarist of Metal Church, who plays, what's in a name, Metal.
In the beginning of the eighties there were a lot of Metal bands who were either the next big thing or a band to take notice off.
Bands like Exodus, Heathen, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer. And also Metal Church.
For me two albums of them are really important, meaning The Dark (with David Wayne on Vocals (no longer among us) and Blessing In Disguise (with Mike Howe on vocals which is for i'm concerned the best Metal Church vocalist ever).

Kurt began with Presto Ballet as a side project because he always loved the old school progrock, like Kansas, Jethro Tull, Styx and King Crimson.
Influences you here on both of Presto's albums, Peace Among The Ruins and The Lost Art Of Time Travel (released october last year) which is a real gem.

The sound of Presto Ballet can be found in a mixture of the aforementioned bands, Kansas, Jethro, Styx and King Crimson.

Enough?  ;D
