Conversely, this album doesn't really work for me.

Steve, in my analysis, there are three aspects in this:

- There is of course a subjective factor.

- Ten are very slow growers. Initially their music does sound somewhat standard, more than e.g. Arena and DT (and accordingly Ten are cataloged under "melodic hard rock", together with a zillion other groups), but after some spins I find that Ten begin to rise steadily above all other "similar" groups.

- With Ten, you really must get into the lyrics, as Gary Hughes' lyrics are among the best, real poetic and visionary, and music and lyrics go very much together. This is probably the main catch. Gary has written some of the most wonderful love songs - about true love. He has also written grippingly about lost love, hate, glory, vanity, loneliness, etc.

I wouldn't keep on going with this Ten talk in a community of people who want instant satisfaction, but fortunately roomies are willing to make an effort to get into deeper stuff - and thereby attain greater and more lasting satisfaction  :)

So let's see who's the second roomie (after me) with whom Ten music suddenly clicks  ;)

I'm planning to start a special thread on Ten and introduce them soon, but their scope is so wide that it takes quite some time to assimilate their stuff - just like with Arena. Music for the thinking man (m/f)  *horns*

Here in the Room, I would recommend The Twilight Chronicles to start with. It's their latest album and in my mind the most exciting and progressive. But also Return To Evermore and Babylon are fabulous.

The Essential Collection has some of their best songs from all albums up to Return in a new recording. You can read my raving review at  http://www.amazon.co.uk/Essential-Collection-1995-2005-Ten/dp/B000CCW16W/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1214122258&sr=1-2  However, today I would recommend the original studio albums, not because Essential aint great (it is), but cause Ten are very album oriented, like all great groups.

Ten albums are hard to get hold of (cause for some to me totally incomprehensible reason, Ten are not world famous). I recom the Amazon network of shops to order them.

You won't regret it tellya   :)

Hey, you selfish b****** !  If Arena were more popular, they'd come and play in southern Scandinavia  :)

Hope your facial surgery went well, Iggy.

Not likely though, soon, though I guess it's partly up to me to kick up some interest for Arena. Hm .......

Just like the seasons it will last for evermore,
Wont you return to me,

I love you endlessly,
It's you I adore."

(My italics, nb)

Now just in case you're thinkin that now Nicky's really becomin a feeble-minded old fogy, remember that I'm also into DT and Dillinger Escape Plan  ;)

Snap!  Played that earlier and have just indulged in part of the DVD as well.  The DVD didn't seem to be grabbing me, so I've left it for another night.  Off now for a little bit of...

Those guys have a lot of imagination and make some great music. Only their lyrics seem to me rather ..... hm, ordinary .... but then again, maybe I'm wrong  ;)

Just finished Nova - Wings of Love.  Stunning jazz-rock similar to Brand X.

Now Radiohead - Hail to the Thief.  Not their best, in my opinion, but after Kid A pretty much everything seems relatively good  ;)

You mean the bit in the documentary where they are rehearsing in the studio? That's indeed marvellous! I remember when I still had the VHS-version (when I was about 14 years old and 'borrowed' it from my dad :D) I'd always rewind that bit time after time so the quality became less and less with each viewing. Luckily I now have the DVD!

Great memories, thanks for bringing them up Mad (although you probably didn't know you were doing that ;)).

Indeed, only the lack of 5.1 sound is a bit of a pity. But I can live with that. I think I'm gonna watch it tonight when I get home from work. *horns*

NP   Stride:  Imagine    *horns* *horns* *horns*

On of my favorites.  I hadnt heard it for ½ year, and it's as terrific as I remember it - WOW !  Sooo much power. All the guys play and sing as if it were their last day on earth.

Fine visionary lyrics too.

Shortly after this album, Gary Belin, one of the greatest rock singers ever, left Stride. I guess they simply couldnt hold together all this power.

Tom & Mad, this is absolutely an album for you. In league with Redemption and Circus Maximus - need I say more ?   ;)

I'v written a lot about it earlier, so I wont repeat.

I went into Amazon.com to read reviews on Imagine and was pleasantly surprised to see that when I clicked on "Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought" the first 13 items were albums that I own and cherish, by Redemption, Circus Maximus, Symphony X, Kamelot, Thought Chamber, Sieges Even, Porcupine Tree, and Frost, and then nb 14 was Words Untold & Dreams Unlived by Serenity, a group I'v never heard of. Any of you guys know bout'm ?

I'l just leave you with this headline and first paragraph from Just Bill's review of Imagine on Amazon:

"Nothing short of astounding. A cross between Dream Theater and Journey!

Stride's Imagine CD is absolutely amazing. The vocals harken back to the days when lead singers could actually sing. Picture Steve Perry of Journey. Or Steve Walsh of Kansas. Then picture taking that quality of vocal ability and combining it with Dream Theater's technical virtuosity and you have Stride -- one of the most amazing bands I've heard in a long, long time."

I dont agree with his comparison with DT, I consider Redemption and CM much closer, but OK  :)

As I am listing on my pc it (the music) has flipped into Tubular Bells haven't heard this in a while.

My brother was mad on this whe it came out he was a big instrumental fan Rick Wakeman and Mike Oldfield followed by Jean Michelle Jarre.

Music is so emotive.
