The Tangent - Not As Good As The Book

Well if it isn't as good as the book, the book must be a best-seller then because i really, really like this album.  :D

Today I played Genesis - "Selling England By The Pound", and once again I was gripped by the fact that this is absolutely timeless music. 35 years ago, the band released this album and today a boy with just 20 years earth experience probably enjoys it with the same amount of enjoyment as one would 35 years ago. How is it ever possible that it sounds still as brilliant as it was supposed to be back then...?
Only listen to the song Cinema Show, pure brilliance. I always make a little dance when the instrumental part kicks in. The hair on my arms and neck are pointing towards heaven when the adrenaline is pumping through every part of my body. My eyes full of tears, because of the beauty my ears are hearing. When the song calms down I go back to my seat (still sweating of excitement!), just in time to hear the relatively boring Aisle of Plenty.

Anyway Motions Of Desire from Magic Pie is playing now.
Great too!

Nicky (shuddering).

Okay I'll admit it: You're right. I judged to early, after only having listened to a handful of songs...

There are a couple of gems to be found on The Black Halo but I think I like the overall feel of Ghost Opera just a little bit better. Happy now Nicky? ;)

NP: Gazpacho - Night

I'm listening to this album for the first time right now after I saw it mentioned in this thread quite a couple of times. So far it's sounding really good. I'm sitting here, just chilling out with some beer listening to this wonderful music. Ahh I almost forgot that life can be good as well!

Cheers guys! :)

If you're in need of a lullaby then put on David Gilmour's On An Island.

That definitely will put you to sleep.  ;) ;D

Yes indeed. In a good way, that is.
Don't you think that On An Island sounds better than Pink Floyd's last album? Today I also listened to The Division Bell, but that's not really my cup of tea.
I prefer Animals or The Wall or Wish You Were Here. Three brilliant albums!

Yes Nicky, I think I'm convinced that Pinkus Floydus was an amazing band, very gifted musicians!
Although not as good as Genesis!
Genesis is... Genes is... no wait... blablabla best band ever. ;D

I haven't heard that one deliberately since 1994. It is the embodiment of everything that went wrong with DT for me. :'(

No, that's not right, not everything. It still has a brilliant lyric written by one of the most fantastic lyricists on the planet. (But that only makes everything more irritating!) He also wrote awesome lyrics for the not-good-at-all-but-rather-ugly "Lie"...  :-\ I hope you can understand how it came to pass that I lost some of the feeling for the band...

If you mean with James' voice i'd say you're right. I have some recordings of that period and sometimes he sounds plain awful.
However i wouldn't say that they only made terrible songs since then.
Have you ever heard Scenes From A Memory? Briliant to say the least.
And maybe you should here the Demo version (official bootleg issue) of Falling Into Infinity.
That album shows how good FII could have been. I personally think you'll like it.

I do like Lie by the way.
It's all a matter of taste of course.  ;)

Oh, don't misunderstand. They have made excellent stuff since then, and "Scenes..." was a huge leap in the right direction. It is indeed very interesting to read about the Inifinity demo. I would be very interested in that, 'cause the production is the worst part of the album. I must sit down and write on the DT thread I made. Maybe there is indeed something to gain from it. :)

"Lie" isn't all bad, but the chorus has got a melody that could so easily have been better. That is, more melodic. Cool verses and all, of course. And brilliant lyrics! "Daybreak, at the bottom of the lake..." Magnificent. 8)

NP  Aghora:  Formless

I'v listened to this album over twenty times now. It's simply unbelievable  *horns*

I just added Aghora to my list of favorite bands on my LP. This is what I wrote about Formless: "Santiago Dobles worked for years at this album. You can hear it, rarely has an album been so rich and perfect."
