Track: [03] Crossing Swords

I've heard about Tiles before. What are they like? Are they recommended?

Now playing:
Porcupine Tree - In Absentia
6. Wedding Nails

I really love this album. Everytime I listen to this, it reminds me how brilliant it is!

@PH: If you like Rush you might like Tiles also.
Their quite similar if you ask me. Their new album 'Fly Paper' will be released at the end of January but the sample's i've heard didn't impressed me.
Their previous album 'Window Dressing' is ... nice but not very good either. presence Of Mind and Fence The Clear are classics in my view.

A good place to start might be their MySpace site.
Personally i like Capture The Flag pretty much.  *horns*

NP  Kamelot:  Ghost Opera

Man, I'm so totally into it. Never thought that Kamelot would get so much under my skin, but with GO K have really pushed frontiers imo, just like SyX did with Paradise Lost. What happened in 2006-7 to make these guys so awesome ?

And recently I realised that GO is about dying and the other world, so, man, frontiers are really pushed for sure here *horns*

A lot has happened to rock since Elvis and Beatles sang their sweet love songs !

NP  Seventh Wonder:  Waiting In The Wings

Melodic heavy prog, very much like Circus Maximus, and in their quieter moments like A.C.T, and just as good  *horns*

SW are a SWedish fivesome  ;D

Tom, something for you, and Mad too.

Outstanding track: Banish The Wicked  *horns* *horns*

Read what Jeff B. writes about WITW on Amazon:

"This CD has NOT been removed from my car since I got it. I was impressed with their first CD until I got this one. Love the new singer much more than the first. I am more of a "music" person than a "lyric" one, however in order to sing along you must know them. I have to say, strange lyrics. Once I read along with them, call me strange but my perspective on the songs changed, but I don't know exactly how. Anyway, a must have !!! "

Well, they're the Seventh Wonder, so you can hardly avoid them  ;D

Tom, glad you like'm. They're really super, arent they ?

Wait till you get to Banish The Wicked. Then you'll go under the planks of your floor  :D

Yeah, I'm friends with Claus Jensen of Intromental. He had them in his stall. I actually missed them at Headway last Easter (because I was stupid :'( ), but I hung around with them later in the day. Great guys - of course *horns*

Progressor writes i.a. (my boldface): "I haven't heard Become, but I am sure that the group have made progress since their debut release. Both in terms of songwriting and performance, "Waiting in the Wings" is an almost perfect album, sounding as though it's a brainchild of musicians who are experts in everything concerning Prog-Metal, with the experience of many years behind them. It's clear that the guys had time to thoroughly examine that genre's varied manifestations before they themselves became a band, but there is not even the slightest hint on this disc that would directly indicate any particular source of their inspiration, although their high technical skill, plus their ability to free-and-easily combine melody with eclecticism in their music, suggest the idea that Seventh Wonder are in the same 'weight category' as Dream Theater. "Waiting in the Wings" is a serious thing, profound technical Prog-Metal, the music having completely grasped my attention from the very beginning. This is stylistically monolithic material, exceptionally coherent throughout. Almost all of the disc's eight tracks have an epic magnitude, although most of them range from 5 to 7 minutes."

Else  http://www.progressor.net/review/seventh_wonder_2006.html  &  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seventh_Wonder .

Looks like they'v become quite big - righteously !

Now, if you like my recoms, how about giving The Twilight Chronicles a go ?  This is superstuff too - actually not that far from CM and SW. Even Ms 007 likes Ten now (although she doesnt like to admit it  ;D ), and that says a lot about their melodiousness and great (I didnt say sexy  :D ) singing.

And Stride's Imagine is in the same league  *horns*

I've bought the album after the recommendation of a friend of mine and i agree that it's really good music.
I've recently obtained a copy of the promo of this album. Different playlist but overall the same. A Nice collectable item.  8)

DO IT! I recommend it to people who love Metal, Electronica, Orchestration and (to lesser extend) Ambient music.
It's not like any bands I know, but sometimes Porcupine Tree (in their heavier moments) comes to my mind. But without any vocals (since it's a computer game soundtrack).

NP  King's X:  Black Like Sunday

Very basic and boring, boogie-type music. Anyone disagree ?

Gonna give this'n away.

BP  Mekong Delta:  The Principle Of Doubt

Prob none of you guys knows this group. They date back to the 80's, when some technically excellent German musicians got together to make some avantgarde metal. They decided to use non-German pseudonyms, as they reckoned that their real German names would turn some people off. Sad, huh - but fortunately times have changed: Since then, German groups like Sieges Even have gained lots of recognition in i.a. US.

Anyhows, this music is very challenging. I dont yet know what to make of it.

NP  Tool:  10,000 Days

I'm just realising that this is an album of the absolute highest order, comparable only to albums like Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence and The Wall.

But you have to be very patient and delve into the lyrics to make sense of it. Highly dramatic !!!

I have it on repeat these days  *horns*

What's further interesting (i.a. re our "Third" topic) is that all four of Tool's albums have reached the top of the charts in US and have become multiplatinum, so there's a big bunch of proggies in the States that are willing to tackle the most advanced stuff - so much for our Western-Europe-centrism !

And still I think Lateralus is slightly better. Don't get me wrong, I really like 10,000 Days, but there are a couple of tracks on it that just seem to go nowhere. But then again, maybe I haven't had the patience to actually sit down with it and (try to) indulge it all. Maybe I should listen to it with my headphones on tonight...Yeah that's what I'm gonna do!

I agree, the're a couple of tracks that are rather otherworldly, some Red Indians chanting i.a.. But the rock tracks, they work bigtime, man. And it's stuff that you can hear again and again, and it just continues to grow.

Headphones are a good idea, particularly with such complex music. I use my Walkman just about all the time.
