NP  Elton John:  Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

One of my alltime favorites. Must'v heard it over a thousand times - literally.

I worked up Funeral For A Friend for piano solo long ago. Sounds real good - my most impressive rock cover - and particularly was a good scoring trick in olden days  ;D  but dont need dat no more  8)

Man, what a pile of fabulous songs: Goodbye and Funeral, of course, but further Candle In The Wind, Bennie And The Jets, Grey Seal - Hey, they're all good !

NP  King Crimson:  The Power To Believe

I cant remember ever having been so surprised by an album !

I got it on Erik's recom, and I expected some 60's-prog ala In The Court and first-gen-Yes, with some ethereal mellotrons, noodling, and quaint flute-playing.

OK, that's what I expected, guys. And what did I get: Solid, biting, cutting, power-driven rock, moody, at times with a dark, sinister edge, at times eerie, other times blistering, blasting.

Wow, what an album ! Went straight to the top, in company with Contagion, The Twilight Chronicles, and Systematic Chaos.

Thanks so much, Erik. Without your recom, I might never had have this terrific experience  *horns*

Had it on repeat all through Christmas, when I could sneak away from the sweet (I didnt say "sickening"  ;D ) Christmas carols.

Don't underestimate them, Nicky. They are very good indeed. Both Mirror Of Creation albums are magnificent. The only downside is their singer. Great power but he's still searching for the right voice, so to say.

Oh, and the Tower is Awesome.  *horns*

NP  Opera Fanatica

Fabulous piece  *horns*

Very unusual, dramatic, and moody.

And Mick is certainly all in it and adds his to the drama. All kudos, Mick !

And John's eerie guitar - Wow !

Clive has some spiritual bits and pieces that go beyond everybody else in the business.

And think of all the lyric bits that we've had fun bandying about here in the Room  ;)

Brilliant!

Can't help but think of the new year as a new beginning. The creation of a new year.
Don't know what I will play, but since Neal Morse was number one in my top ten, I think I'll play that as soon as my family is away from the stereo...

NP  Orphaned Land: El Norra Alila

Something as unusual as an Israeli heavy band, and it's real heavy with growl and all, ala Opeth, although not entirely as heavy - and now comes the biggest surprise: It's deeply religious, like the first song has the title Find Yourself, Discover God.

There's also some Israeli folk music mixed in.

Very special, and exciting !

Highly recommended for heavy roomies  *horns*

The Jelly Jam - The Jelly Jam
2. No Remedy

I bought this album because it was just 4,99 euros and I was doing a big spend-a-lot on InsideOut.de...
I played it once, maybe twice, and thought it wasn't really spectacular so I never really played it again.

I was right: it isn't really spectacular, but it still is quite enjoyable. Think a bit of The Urbane and add a lot of standard rock, and maybe even some punk.
Not proggy at all, but enjoyable.

NP  Kamelot:  Ghost Opera

Hm, pretty good, I must say ..... in fact, real good ..... or should we admit at last: f*ingly crazily good  *horns*

Took some time, cause: It's reeeal heavy stuff, man.

I already liked Khan in Conception. And here he's over the top !

And most surprising: the production. Although there's lots of banging around, often at a whacky tempo, everything stands out amazingly clearly.

Man, the world really is fullo surprises  ;)
