Do any of you ever check on ProgArchives?
I do most of "my discoveries" there.

Amplifier (Amplifier, 2004) Consultancy

Sounds interesting...
Psychedelic/Space Rock, with very 'eavy metal in it.
Especially for Nicky (check it out!).

Ok, but with MySpace you already know a name, or else you wouldn't search for it on MySpace.

I was actually talking about music coming to YOU instead of the other way round...
At ProgArchives, once in a while the mp3s are updated and some new songs are added.
I check out most of those songs and if I like it, I look at the artist and remember it.
And then I go to MySpace to listen to some more songs.

Last.fm is good too.

I'm visiting MySpace websites of friends of the bands that are in my friends list. Most of the time their friends have similar music. But I'm listening to prog radio as well like Morow.com and Live 365 Internet radio stations.

Thanks for the tip, Paco  :)

Here's the official MySpace page for Amplifier: http://www.myspace.com/amplifiertheband

I listened through the three songs there to get a first impression.

I read about Amplifier on  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amplifier_%28band%29  and  www.amplifiertheband.com

Yes, I have been in ProgArchives several times. In fact I've quoted passages from reviews there in the Room.

Now we're at it, my main source of prog info has been Amazon reviews, mainly on the American site. There are lots of real good reviews there (also a bunch of real dumbass ones), and I'v found some reviewers whose writeups I particularly seek, i.a. Murat Batmaz, who's a member of the Room. The best reviewers always comment on the lyrics of bands and albums. This is a very rare commodity on internet sites, and one that indicates to me that I'v found a very serious reviewer.

I'v read several thousand reviews on Amazon.

I also read extensively about groups in Wikipedia (surprise?) and on their official sites.

Then of course I get great tips from you guys in the Room - please continue. And I have a good friend who's the prog man in one of the two CD-stores in Copenhagen that have the best prog selection.

Now I think I pretty much have found the groups that are best to my taste; they're the ones listed as Present and Past Masters in my Listening Profile. Most of the stuff under Past Masters I've listened to a lot during the past forty years, so it's mainly the Present Masters I play now.

But I'v always been a seeker, and I will continue to pursue exciting trails in prog. What makes prog different from so much else is that you really have to use a lot of effort to work your way into an album, sometimes for a long time contrary to your feelings. That was particularly the case for me, and it seems for many others, with Dream Theater, who today are one of my absfave groups.

On the other hand, with Ten I simply couldn't understand how they could be so unknown and yet so very good, but I'v had to realise that even proggies aren't always as adventurous as I could wish.

So prog is one of the most exciting things going on in my life: Seeking, trying out, and then grooving when I find something real edgy  :)  and then of course sharing, like with you guys  :)

Listening to ProgArchives' songs once again.
Hoping to find something new.

Now playing:
Banks, Tony (A Curious Feeling, 1979) After The Lie
What a brilliant song by this master keyboardplayer. Very Wind & Wuthering era Genesis-ish (try to speak that out loud).

Thanks to ProgArchives I want to ask you guys (and girls) the following:

Does anyone know "Alias Eye"? The songs on PA are very good. It's a German band.
And "Aside Beside"? It's a French band. Also sounds very nice. Although it seems that they only have one album (Tadj Mahall Gates).

And now playing:
Banks, Tony (Strictly Inc., 1995) An Island In The Darkness
This reminds me more of the latest three Genesis albums (not counting Calling All Stations). Even the drumcomputer is present. But nevertheless I really like the song. It's not as poppy as most Genesis' latest songs.

Of course. Drumcomputers are no go. But it reminds me of Genesis.

Now Playing:
Dream Theater - Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From A Memory
3. Scene Two: II. Strange Deja Vu

It's been a while since I heard this album and I really like it. The piano in the songs really make it some extra better. ;)
