Nicky.

Actually, no. It's the same Marillion that changed their sound since This Strange Engine and Radiation. Mostly rock orientated with a bit of prog. It goes further where Marbles, still an amazing album by the way, ended and although it lacks the genius of the first couple of H-era albums it's still far better than everything between Engine and Anoraknophobia.
What i miss on this album is a few songs like Neverland of Marbles. The average length of the songs is about 5 minutes. Two songs almost clock 8 minutes ( Somewhere Else and The Wound). In a few occasions the album even reminds me of Coldplay.

The only song that reminds me of the beginning of the H-Era is The Wound that would fit perfectly on Holidays In Eden IMO.

In short: Not a classic but very enjoyable.   :)

NP  Pure Reason Revolution:  The Dark Third.

Great music, melodic and pleasant, yet prog and gripping.

Does anyone know what the concept is? Seems somewhat trekkish.

BIG PoS-fan over here!! I've got all their albums as you can see in my listeningprofile. I think they are one of the few bands in the genre who really are progressive.

Tom and Maddox, as you know, I'm crazy bout Scarface, so I went back and listened again to The Perfect Element I the other day; unfortunately I didn't find it nearly as fantastic as Scarface. I'm missing PoS' first two studio albums, Entropia and One Hour, in my CD collection, and now I'm wondering whether I should get them at some point. I only want them if I can be reasonably sure that I'll like them. How good are they?

Nicky, I didn't know that PoS had an album that is called Scarface, I always thought that was a movie! ;D Okay I'll switch my smartass-mode off now...

But serious, let me first ask you something: What is it that you don't like about The Perfect Element pt 1? Then I can judge if you may or may not like Entropia and One Hour By The Concrete Lake.

By the way, did you know that Scarsick is actually The Perfect Element pt 2?

I know now thank you, very clever guys these, I get the distinct feeling that many younger people think that this is aimed at them. That may be the case but I really don't think so, I'm getting on and I love 'em. Any one else got an opinion on this?

Scarsick?

Of course (you smartasses). Guess I had too much s* (or was it beer? some loved one) this weekend, so I can't get my thoughts together. Anyway:

Just doesn't have the same magic, Tom, seems rather ordinary. Maybe you could just tell me what you think about all the PoS studio albums.

> (Tom:) By the way, did you know that Scarsick is actually The Perfect Element pt 2?

Yes, but I don't know in what way.

I only got bout half of that, John, but OK, I got the message, and the answer is that I've only heard C&C in passing, so with you guys' recom, I guess I'll just have to giv'm a run (the alternative is roastin in hell, I guess). I'll try Myspace and Youtube first.

NP  3:  All That Remains.

Great music. Hope to find "The End Is Begun" somewhere.

NP  Marillion:  Marbles.

Nice, in a way: soothing, sedating (or what was the word?). In any case, you feel like listening to the next song, and next ... and which M-album next? Can't say I'm crazy bout H's singing, but you get that he means it, and that's a quality in itself (in these Britney-times).

Guess I've taken over the rampage, Maddox.

Maybe we should start using a new genre name: lounge prog  ;D

Glad you like it.  ;)

Np> The Flower Kings - The Road Back Home

Track: [disc I] 07 - World Without A Heart

The kings' first best-off album. Worthy if you're clueless of The Flower Kings, just another album if you have digested everything they wrote. Like me.
It's nice that the Genesis cover 'The cinema Show', which is in my opinion probably the best Genesis song ever written, is on the album though.  :)

One of their best. Good choice.  *horns*

Do you have the DVD too, Tom? I like it very much, probably the best music DVD i've ever seen.
But i do question the alternative lyrics. It gives me the feeling that they played the concert prior to the release of the album.  :-\

But amazing without a doubt.  8)

I was scrolling through this thread and I completely managed to miss your post Maddox! But yes I have that DVD too. And I like it indeed! You are correct on your guess that they played the gig prior to the release of the album. They later changed some bits of music and lyrics. I have to say that in some cases I like the DVD-version better but you can't have them all!

Here you are:

Pain of Salvation:   Be Live  (DVD, 2005)

Amazon.com: This DVD features the live performance of Pain of Salvation's conceptual masterpiece, Be, complete with an orchestra and animated footage. Before Pain of Salvation entered the studio to record Be, they performed the music live over the course of several nights in front of music students and in rock clubs. A camera crew followed them around to document the performances for this DVD. "It seems that everybody was deeply impressed," says creator Daniel Gildenlow. "I think, however, in order to grasp every detail of the show one would have to watch it three or four times."
