Pearl Jam:  self-titled.

I gave it many runs, and now I really like it a lot. I would definitely say that it belongs to a proper progcollection.

Let's not be mistaken: PJ is Eddie Vedder with backing, not because the other musicians aint good musicians, they're topnotch, they just dont let it go here, and that's ok, because Eddie is simply a f* good singer, he really expresses a wide spectrum of moods convincingly.

Another thing that's great about PJ is that, despite massive success, they haven't compromised one bit on their music; it's still as raw, honest and biting as ever.

Seattle has really given us a surprisingly large number of great singers: Eddie Vedder, Layne Staley, Geoff Tate, Mark Lanegan, Chris Cornell, Ron Nine, Mark Arm, Kurt Cobain, + prob some more that I'm not familiar with.

I'm now listening to the song 'All That Remains' from the latest album of the band '3'. They are an American band who recently were the support-act of Porcupine Tree on the American leg of their tour. It's not prog in the traditional sence of the word, but I really like them!

You can check some of their music out on http://www.myspace.com/3

Do you read Aarschok Tom? In this month's edition there's an interview wtih ... 3;)

Thanks for the tip, PH and others.

Yeah, Maddox, 3 and CM are topnotch. Fortunately, both are getting big at last.

Nice tune for a sunday morning:

Dream Theater - Images & Words

Track: 03 - Take The Time

Suspyre - The City Under Sands

It's a free download from Suspyre's site. Great melodies, reminds me of DT, Andromeda and Symphony X. The vocals are somewhere between the last two.

There is also, which is not suprising, a MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/suspyre) site where you can listen to four songs.  :)

Have fun!  ;D

Pain Of Salvation:  Scarsick.

It's taken me a long time to get there, but now I can only surrender to Genius: Scarsick is simply a masterpiece - awesome! (You're right once again, Goran.)

The killer song here is Enter Rain. I've had it on repeat for - I don't even know how long - dark, creepy, spine-chilling, wooooo - and WOW.

This one is a must, don't miss out on it.

Vanden Plas - Christ. O.

Maddox, I have to correct you (naughty youths) once again. The title is Christ 0 (zero), and this is important in order to understand the whole concept. In Dumas' book (which I'm enjoying tremendously currently, in French), the protagonist (main character) is met with just about all humanly imaginable distress thrown at him (shit rains down), but in the end, he manages to get above it and find his God and Redeemer, and even forgive his hatchet men, so one could characterise this plot as Christ - => +. In Vanden Plas' concept, the protagonist goes under, God does not emerge in him, and he becomes a serial murderer (the pics are very graphic in this), so it's Christ 0.

Rem, Maddox, quality prog is not just good music, but intriguing ideas too. These guys know their classics, and that should inspire proggies to follow them in that fabulous world.

NP  PoS:  Scarsick.

This one has been on repeat here in Vangede (Copenhagen) for quite a while now, it's just so good.

I know there are other PoS fans around here, so how about some response?

And did anyone play Karl Anthony's One Prayer?

BIG PoS-fan over here!! I've got all their albums as you can see in my listeningprofile. I think they are one of the few bands in the genre who really are progressive. They recorded a show this last March for a DVD-release and I was there so I cannot wait for the releasedate (although there's still no news about that at the moment).

Nicky, you inspired me to play some PoS again, so now playing is:

I've heard Poets and Madman, the Wake and Streets. For me Streets is the best. Yet I will get my hands on more albums in the future :)
Have you tried Trans-Siberian Orchestra's Beethoven's Last Night? That album has a lot of the Savatage dudes and sounds AMAZING!

My dear Nicky...i know perfectly well what the story is about. I have to remind you that i have the album for about one and a half years now, read the interviews, read the book etc etc.
I just like to write it like that. With the dots. No special reason though. Normally i do write it with a zero but somehow i replaced it with an O this time. An O without the umlaut. ;)

And no, i wasn't drinking at the time.  ;D

One of their best. Good choice.  *horns*

Do you have the DVD too, Tom? I like it very much, probably the best music DVD i've ever seen.
But i do question the alternative lyrics. It gives me the feeling that they played the concert prior to the release of the album.  :-\

But amazing without a doubt.  8)
