Now playing:

Magic Pie - 2007 - Circus Of Life
03. What if...

I RECOMMEND THIS ALBUM TO EVERYONE ON THE SHATTERED ROOM!!!

Thanks for the recom, PH. I'm always happy for recoms, particularly such passionate ones. Magic Pie is high on my shopping list (and it looks like my bankman soon will allow me some more loan). Which album should one get first, PH, Motions Of Desire or Circus Of Life?

I'm listening to Floyd's A Momentary Lapse Of Reason. Fabulous album, vintage Floyd. There's a lot of talk bout Dark Side and Wall (and rightly so), but the Gilmour-led Lapse and Division Bell are tremendous too, intriguing lyrics, with David's more subtle bite, and surprisingly modern music for such old guys. Every Roomie, who's not as stubborn as Appelmoes (I'm right, aren't I, PH), should have all the Floyd studio albums back to Atom Heart Mother. Why miss out on great music?

I'd say get them both, they're equally good! Honestly!
But if you can't spend that much money... ehmm... (though one)... I'd say ehhmmm... the latest...

I was playing on my keyboard. Sometimes a wonderful tune comes up in my head and I record it straight from my keyboard into the line-in of my pc.
As soon as I have a band gathered around me I'll fit the pieces together and make one hell of a prog-album!

Or something...

Dream Theater: Systematic Chaos.

Mindblowing! I'm spellbound. As good as Six Degrees, maybe even better. Have to spin it more to determine. What do you think, Tom and Maddox?

The DVD in the Special Edition is interesting too. You get to know the guys.

And me ? ;) A very good album, indeed. I played it a lot the last week since I was "preparing" for the Clermont-Ferrand gig. A report is on its way in the Dream Theater thread. I hope to post it today but I can already announce that it was GREAT *horns*

I knew you would like it.  :D
To me it's the perfect mixture between 6 Degrees and TOT. Some of the lyrics are not Theaterish so to say actually on the threshold of dullness but other than that it's a marvellous album indeed. But...

They never had to cut In The Presence Of Enemies in half.  >:( That's a mistake in my view. That will cost them some points in the end-of-the-year list for sure.  :-\
It was fun to see the DVD as well. Quite fun at some points. The nightmare of John Petruchi was nice ( :D) and John Myung playing the bass so fast he fell off the chair.  ;D

Overall a very good album indeed and way better than Octavarium.  *horns*

You should make this dream come true, PH. I played in a rock group in my high school days (back in the last century), and that gave me some experiences that I've cherished since. Only few people heard us, and even fewer liked what we were doing, but we didn't care; we had one hell of a great time. Playing in a group also opens ports of understanding to other groups' music.

You could call your group Pack o' Wolves.  ;D

NP  Vanden Plas: Beyond Daylight.

This stuff rocks, believe me. Musically it's almost better than Christ 0, which is saying a lot, but then again, I like the extreme moods of Christ 0.

For me, Vanden Plas are the best non-A&B group. They grip me in a way that only Arena and Dream Theater and a few other groups do.

So, you heavy Roomies, give these guys a run.

Being a very Christian person, I actually enjoy the lyrics on SC very much. I know that Mike works very closely with Neal Morse, and John Petrucci (cci, Maddox) is a practicing Catholic, and I'm happy that these masters of prog are delving so deeply into Christian thought. These things come with age, Maddox, of course granted that one's a reflective person (which all Arena fans must be).

But I'm a big fan of Octavarium, Maddox. Train Of Thought is more of a challenge to me.

Are all Roomies off on their holidays already? Forgot to take their portables along? Not much is happening here at the moment. Hey, guys, remember: Prog doesn't sleep! :o

Pantommind: Shade Of Fate.

This is a great album from a Bulgarian prog group. Who would have expected that? I actually only found them because I checked up the groups at Intromental (I'm friends with Claus Jensen). As good as Riverside, heavier, more in the style of Vanden Plas and Dream Theater. Tony Ivan is an excellent singer, clear voice and large range, good English expression, you can actually understand what he's singing, which is otherwise a problem with Eastern European groups. The lyrics are fine too, poetic and philosophic. Very differing moods. I foresee that these guys will get BIG.

You can check'em up and hear samples at http://www.pantommind.com/

Dream Theater: Score.

One of the finest gems in my collection of CD's. Each listen brings new sparkling facets. The live version of Octavarium is a special treat, Jordan's playing here is some of the most exciting keyboard stuff I've ever heard, Paco, when John P comes in with his slide, it's like hearing the angels sing.

Eh?
I have both the CD (3 disc) and the DVD (2 disc) and it's indeed amazing!
But as soon as I saw John Petrucci I burst into laughter. The hair was totally not cool.

Now I'm listening to:
Rick Wakeman - Rick Wakeman At Lincoln Cathedral
Powerful organ playing.
I like it. The organ is one of the mightiest instruments there is.
Not really prog of course, but I can play this to my grandparents. ;D

Nicky007

I have to correct myself: I just saw the 2006 Live in Seoul recording of Octavarium  http://youtube.com/watch?v=xK3qylwd-M0  and registered that Jordan did the first seven minutes of O solo on his keyboards; so, what sounded to me like a slide guitar was Jordan plying his synths. Man, he really fooled me there. The world is full of surprises.

Well, anyway, give yourself a treat and play this video. I think even the Captain and the other Lighties here can join in on this one.

The guy looks like he's fixin some gadget, and in reality he's invoking the cosmic harmonies.

I have absolutely no clue what it's about, but this pure class music! Excellent music!
Every time when the harmony vocals bring in "Clear words child! Far away plans." along with "The skies sublime lunation." I have goosebumps all over.
Brilliant high recommendable brilliance over here.
