After the Reality Dream Trilogy I decided to take a little break from Riverside.

Now I'm listening to:
Flying Colors - "Second Nature"

The first song is indeed much like Transatlantic. I really like the Neal/Mike combination in Transatlantic, Neal Morse solo and of course here in Flying Colors. When this pair are working together, good things are happening.

The second song Mask Machine reminds me a lot of Muse. Which is not a bad thing.

The rest is yet to be listened.

I also played "For The Journey" today. It's a bit early to say but I think it's even better than "March Of Progress". It's perhaps a bit 'poppier', where "March..." is more proggy.
It's just so amazingly catchy stuff again. Makes me think of "Subsurface" quite a few times too. The keyboards sound different this time (Richard West is really experimenting this time). Some of the guitar parts sound heavier too. Which is cool but a bit un-Threshold at times. I really love the Threshold groove.

NP  Jeff Beck's Guitar Shop with Terry Bozzio and Tony Hymas *horns*

Oh man, this is so good that it goes straight to my Prog Pantheon - sorry, Paxi, for the overpopulation, but I'm an irreparable music geek ::)

I knew that anything with Terry Bozzio is worth my attention, but that Jeff Beck is so good ..... 8)

And five pieces from GS to PP ;)

Gotta listen to a lot more JB stuff now ....... :)

Here, Paxi, try these:

Both are originally from Guitar Shop, but here in later live versions.

Circus Maximus - Live In Japan
I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

@ Nicky about Bal-Sagoth. I played the links that you provided and found it ... well, hard to endure. I admit that it did not remind me from Rhapsody, though. That being said, I respect your tastes and commitment with this band : if their music and lyrics are the things that move you the most in this world, so be it and enjoy !

Oh, and could you tell me more about this Conchita Wurst : is she Byron's girlfriend ?

So, what's it like? I actually only know the singer (Ted Leonard) from Spock's Beard. But he's a pretty good singer so I'm willing to give it a shot.

Man, I'm enjoying this so much, I haven't even got the time to listen to the new Flying Colors properly.

;D Bupie

Byron is special, but in a different way - fortunately for me ;)

I haven't even heard CW's winner song. I've only seen pics of him/her/whatever. Doesn't interest me the least.

There's so much great music being made in these times. I simply can't understand why people wallow in this nonsense.

Threshold - "March Of Progress"
This album is also really good. I previously said that this one is more proggy where "For The Journey" is more poppy. But actually they are both proggy and poppy at the same time. I'm really in a Threshold mood today. I played the new album numerous times already. I hereby nominate it for the best-of-2014 list.

NP:
Lunatic Soul - "Impressions"
I needed to calm down after Threshold. This album is perfect for that.

I noticed it's definitely heavier live than on the album. Some *horns* tracks and some a bit too heavy for my taste.

Flying Colors - "Second Nature"

OK, this is indeed a very good album. At the moment I'm listening to The Fury Of My Love and I'm really liking the beautiful chorus in that one.
Flying Colors is sounding a bit like Transatlantic in some moments (not only the first track, but that one's the most obvious).
It needs more spins, but I'm sure I'll like this album as much (if not more) as the first one.

It won't top Threshold's excellent new album though. Man, I really like that one!

Sorry, I'll shut up now.

Bupie

@ Nicky. So this Conchita really exists ? I thought it was a joke. I guess that she won the Eurovision contest ?

OK, Teunis, I understand, that is why I suggested to go past the first song for those who don't know the band and are not too keen on metal. I find the guitar soli rather outstanding, especially on I Am and Last Goodbye, my fave tracks. And the guys seem nice, which is a plus. Now bring on something new from Seventh Wonder  *horns*

I have their first and last (before the one that has just been released) and like them both but how could I describe them ? Heavy prog but not too heavy and focused on melodies. Not so far from Spock's Beard recent albums, I would say. I hear a bit of lighter Rush too. Worth checking.

Yeah! I've heard that s/he is single. You'd be getting some new experiences there, Bups ;D

Looks like your interest in Eurovision is even less than mine. I really don't think that we're missin anythin, Bupie ;)

NP Enchant - A Blueprint Of The World

You gave me the desire to listen to Enchant again ... which is somehow the purpose of this thread  :) I picked their debut (in the reissued  2 CD edition) because I have a soft spot with it. It's far from perfect (Ted Leonard's voice has improved a lot since ... or maybe have the production values ?) but it has the genuine feel of a debut and a few great songs, the opener being one of them for sure (what an intro !). I admit that one might find it too linear, too "more of the same" but it is well worth checking nonetheless.

Oh, and it clicked while listening : it does not remind me of Spock's Beard at all but it sure has a strong ressemblance with Jadis. Actually, you could describe it at the US counterpart of Jadis.

Bupie

NP Enchant - Tug Of War

Wow, I had forgotten how good this album is !

I am not a musician but to my ears it seems to be miles ahead of Blueprint in terms of production. The music is heavier too, making me often think of Rush but also of Kansas in a few occasions. Once again, the opener Sinking Sand is great and once gain you might feel that the album as a whole is too linear but in this particular case this is a minor concern really. Strongly recommended. Makes me eager to listen to their last album.

JF Steve Lukather - Transition

By the time of its release, I was not impressed : it felt like business as usual, stuff on automatic pilot. I recently played it again and now it has become my fave Lukather album. How strangely tastes evolve ...

NP Threshold - For The Journey

If it's as good as you all say, it should click sooner or later ...

Edit : it starts clicking  8)
