Still, dear Nicky, I think it's a matter of taste.

Still, Paxi, there is a difference: I make a point of listening to the links that people put up in the Room, often following up on them. I think that's part of sharing.

When I notice that nobody plays my links, it does make me wonder ....  ;)

First spin and I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised by (most songs of) this album  *horns* 8) ;)

Nice opening, Teunis. DT are the flagship of progmetal  *horns*

Yes, read a lot of positive reviews from this album and it was the only one I knew by name from the 3 I bought.

jp: Dream Theater - A Change Of Seasons (not really a wowser for my taste, weakest of the three albums IMHO)

earlier: Mystery - The World Is A Game  8)

IQ - "The Seventh House"

Rick Altizer - "Scripture Memory: Pop Symphonies"
Catchy stuff.

JP:
Yes - "90125"
It's so un-Yes (but still pretty good!!) and they named it a Yes album only after Jon joined the party. There's probably even more of Rabin's vocals here than Jon's. And I like the singing a lot on this one.
Makes me wonder what it would be like if Cinema continued and made another album instead of becoming Yes-West.

Steve Jones

Steve Winwood - Steve Winwood

Saw him last night at Cambridge Corn Exchange - completely awesome.

Not typical Room material, but for anyone interested there's a setlist at http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/steve-winwood/2013/corn-exchange-cambridge-england-4bd9c3fa.html

"Then I'll know my bet will win, when the saints go marching in"

Draco chimera

Woodkid - I Love You
Great stuff. Very orchestral, easily accessable yet musically advanced in my opinion.
Let your conscience decide !

"Briiing me a higheeer love". Sorry, I guess it's not the song you came for but it reminds me of holidays in Greece a few decades ago, dancing on the counter of a Ios Island's bar  8) Reminds me too of a movie with Tom Berenger and Mimi Rogers (Someone to Watch Over Me) including a scene at a party where the song is played (or another song from Back In The High Life).

PP Muse - Absolution
JF Muse - Black Holes and Revelations
NP Muse - The Resistance

Doing my homework since the Empress takes me to their concert in Paris this Friday (cool idea, isn't it ?). I think I will never be a huge fan but The Resistance is a rather impressive album. Still have to listen to The Second Law, though.

Hmmm, listened to that and apart from my not liking the voice too much, this sounds rather uninspired. In the beginning I thought, wow, cool riffs, heavy. But after minute 3:00 or so, it became boring. Just another pop metal "I can scream and bang the strings very pretty....bäm!" band. Sorry. Just my opinion again. I cannot scream or play guitar as well as these guys, no misunderstanding here ;)

Comparison: even Nightwish is proggier than that.

I listened to a lot of midi files.
Take a look here: http://www.rppmf.com/index.htm
Lots and lots of prog. I like to send these midi's to my keyboard and play along.

JP:
"Close To The Edge"

NP:
"Tales From Topographic Oceans"

This is actually a really nice album. The first song is full of pretty themes and musical ideas. Unfortunately the good pieces are packed between a few not so good pieces.

This should provoke an answer from our special agent, specialized in the eradication of metal bands' female vocalists ;D

The album has its up and downs but Ghost Love Score is really huge  *horns*

Cap  :o

That bottle of Scotch must'v been a bit too good  ;D

Nightwish are saloon metal. In Flames are cutting edge progmetal. I chose Deliver Us cuz that's their showcase song for their new album, a relatively accessible song. Seems to have been almost too accessible for you  ;)

You're right, Bups. I hadnt even seen your comment when I fell over our dear (mean it  :) ) Captain  ;D

But comon guys, don't ya got any critical sense ? Just cuz the're a couple'o nice b**bs a-croonin ?

Bups, if you want cutting-edge female-fronted metal, then try To-Mera. That's the Real McB**bs in metal. Try the YouTube I posted under Copenhell, and then the YouTube Blood. (How much does it take guys  :P )

That'l whet your appetite and a lot more, tellya  ;)

NP  5FDP:  War is the Answer

Super album  *horns*

Very heavy, but melodic. May be somethin for several Roomies who can take a bit of growl  ;)

Jonesy, what's your take ?
