Bupie, what is Touchstone like?

NP:

Pretty standard pop music.

A very nice and very underrated album. Wojtek Szadkowski is a very talented guy.

Seven minutes into Moviedrome. Noone writes anything like this anymore.
Arena included I guess.
To me this is the best song they've done.

It's hard to describe. First they have two singers, a female lead vocalist and a male keyboardist/vocalist. The girl is good, the boy is great, really. I know many Roomies have problems with female fronted bands but I can't understand why  ::)

The music is rather unique in its genre. It is a melting of heavy riffing and poppy sections, most often in the same song. But to me it's far from metal, it's more neo-prog. You can find a few vids on YT (even one with our JM playing a great solo  8) at the High Voltage festival but the song is a Tears For Fears cover) but they don't do the band justice. The ballads are really great (Original Sin, Sleeping Giants ...), the rockers have great momentum. I only have their last two albums but I really love them, especially Wintercoast. You can give yourself an idea reading PA and DPRP reviews. Really worth the try  *horns* Oh, and a new album is scheduled for 2013.

It all depends on the music, Bupie. I like a lotta stuff by Lana Lane, Eleven, Janis Joplin, Simone Simons with Kamelot. But there has to be enuff goin on. Alle those female fronted saloon metal bands bore me (even with all the b**bs). And if it's more or less standard crooning, I'm off too. There's so much great music around, why should I make do with less ?

You mean the last track, the long instrumental one? Frankly speaking I skip that one most of the time, never realised it was a Freddie tribute and found it a 'weird' song ::) :-[. But really dig the rest of the album 8).

I've seen someone comparing them to Kino. What do you think? I've also read that John Mitchell was involved (although not heavily).
I'll check out some YouTube videos. Maybe their 2013 album is a nice opportunity to become 'hooked'.

Although the whole album is a Mercury-tribute, this track actually isn't. At least, not intentionally.
It's an experiment by the album's producer, David Richards.
He took some parts of one of the songs, tossed it into a sampler, added some of Freddy's vocals and voila, a 22 minute long ambient thingy.

The postlude is over in the spiritual world, Mad - quite far from bookbinding ;-)

NP  Cairo:  Time of Legends

Nice, but not fantastic. I got this album cuz of Brett Douglas. He sings fantastically on Explorers Club's Age of Impact. His singing is also the best thing about ToL imo  8)

What I meant to say was that this track isn't written to be just that what you describe, Nickster.  :P
It is what it is, an experiment by the producer in charge, with obviously the approval of the band.
Without their consent, it would never exist. ;)

But everybody is entitled to make up their own opinion of course. ;)
If you want it to be a tribute, then a tribute it is.  8)

It's the last statement from Queen (the real Queen, with Freddie, in spirit), and it has that obvious quality  8)

Good call, Teunis. Turn up the volume a bit after Freddie's last "Yeah", and try to imagine yourself in some other dimension  ;)

New group in the Room, surprisingly good, very grand sound, but also clear and crisp, Finnish melodic metal band (from Tampere), related to Amorphis, Seventh Wonder, and Pagan's Mind  *horns*

Guess we just swept across Scandinavia  ;D

Long song - hear it thru, you won't regret  :)

Yes Nicky, that is indeed a really cool band.
It reminded me a bit of Symphony X when I first listened to their debut album two years ago or so.
I'll give them a listen again, as soon as I get out of work.

Cool, Paxi, so we're travelling together again  :)

Anthriel are amazing. And I was amazed to see that, altho their debut album The Pathway is from 2010, they'r still virtually unknown, e.g. they'r only wikied in Spanish. (Fortunately I know enuff Spanish.) And unknown in progworld, which is worse. Man, where do people have their minds ?
