NP Retrospective : Lost In Perception

On progstreaming. Strangely enough, the first track is the one I liked the least at first listen.
LOL, didn't like the first track either, it made me press the 'stop' button. Maybe I should give it another try ;).

np: DeeExpus - Far From Home (for the second time in a row)

Not so impressed as I was after hearing their 'King Of Number 33' album, but I'm sure I'm going to like it  *horns*

Well, I like it but I am not sure I like it enough to buy it.

Instead ...

NP Fish On Friday : Airborne

You should listen to this one before it gets off the picture, Teunis. If you got bored by the first half, go directly to the second  ;) Seriously, it´s stunning. Stunning pop rock, but stunning anyway  *horns*

Tracks like Airborne or Not A Sad Song are irresistible.

Hey, what's the matter, Funky ?

Hey, don't you start on that. I already have my train ticket  ;)

Funky, this stuff would definitely get yer ear bud working:

NP  Vildhjarta:  Måsstaden

One of the heaviest albums in my collection, one of the new djent groups, based in Härnösand, Sweden (well on the way to Ultima Thule), sounds like one's in the middle of a war zone with the grenades falling all around, but the're also some mellow passages in-between. Saw'm live at Temple of Doom in November - pretty heavy  ;)

Give'm some runs, let's see .....

NP  Periphery II: This Time It's Personal

Demanding, then thrilling  *horns*

Here's one of the most immediately gratifying pieces. Master JP gives a fine guest solo (second solo, after quiet passage):

The darkened room by Izz

I have just discovered them and am mightily impressed. A bit of Yes and Rush and some of the muscial passages
mixed with some almost jazzy pieces. Superb  *horns*

Another band that I have to check. Their latest album is receiving rave reviews ! I think I will buy it, along with the last Mystery album. Those are two of the 2012 releases that I really want to check.

NP Lee Abraham - The Mirror

I had high hopes with this one but they were not fulfilled  :P

Tonight i am hoping to catch up with Angalgard , the latest one from Yes and some Coroner  *horns*

NP  Glenn Tipton:  Baptizm of Fire

A wonderful personal album by a personable philosopher-musician  *horns*

But you gotta be friends with Glenn to appreciate this album; else stay away  ;)

He has some of his fine musician friends in the mix: Billy Sheehan, Whitfield Crane, Robert Trujillo, Don Airey, John Entwhistle, Cozy Powell, Brooks Wackerman, Shannon Larkin, and even Glenn's son Rick Tipton on drums  8)

The quote below is from the title song, the full lyrics in fact. Man, what a piece  :)

NP Pax Romana - Let All Men Know - This Is Sacred Ground

Found them on progstreaming. Really liked the band's name and the artwork so I clicked to listen to the music. It is very quiet, almost ambient at times, with some enjoyable sax parts. Some songs remind me a bit of Murray Head, Neil Young or classic/folk rock of the seventies. Others are more ethereal with a few nice guitar solos that you could find in a neo prog album. Sounds a bit naive or amateur at times but definitively worth a listen. Maybe Nicky should stay away though ;D

@ Nicky about SW : I was half-joking with the cheese factor. Actually, SW has become my favorite active prog metal band and to be honest I don't care about cheesiness accusations, whatever the band : in this old male body of mine is a 14 years old girl's heart beating :)

Bupie, to me "cheese" means that you (the performer) have little to offer, you know that you have little (not everybody has that sense of proportion), and you strain yourself to make it look like more. Basically pathetic  :-[

SW have tremendous talent. Not the slightest cheese here  ;)

We're used to a lot of craziness from your side, Bupie, but this beats it all. Why a girl  :o

NP  Chris Cornell & friends:  Euphoria Morning

An extraordinary album from this great artist. Somehow the confluence of his talents with those of Alain Johannes and Natasha Shneider created magic  *horns*

Hmm, it's not what I meant but it's a good try PH  ;) What I meant is that I like a lot the kind of romantic/easy listening ballads/songs that are usually despised by "prog elitists". Let's take for instance DT's Another Day, Pendragon's Red Shoes, IQ's Drive On, Arena's Friday's Dream, PT's Lazarus, Marillion's No One Can, Asia's The Smile Has Left Your Eyes, SW's Long Way Home ... The list could go on an on, including tons of non prog bands (Scorpions' Always Somewhere and Lynyrd Skynyrd's Tuesday's Gone are two of my fave ballads) but you see the picture.

NP La Maschera Di Cera - Le Porte Del Domani
This is far from the songs I mentioned above. Welcome back to 70s symphonic prog ...
