Already better indeed, but I'm afraid it won't make it to my 'to buy' list  ;)

I might have to work a bit in the shadows now  ;D

Yep and I'm one of them, really dig this album  *horns*

RPWL - Beyond Man And Time

Played it three times on progstreaming.com so far, it really is a grower. It reminds me of tracks of Blind Ego which is not necessarily a disadvantage ;). Not so strange of course because at least one RPWL member (Kalle Wallner) is a member Blind Ego.

JP: The Mars Volta - (two YouTube links courtesy of Nicky): "The Widow" and "Inertiatic ESP"

Now here's something we can work with.  This stuff has potential.  It's a little wild (as expected maybe even less than expected), but it's got some structure and Cedric even has a good voice when he chooses to.  Bears very little resemblance to the live recording I heard/saw, where it was as if nobody even realized there were other band members playing at the same time.  I'll dig around and listen to some more.

Also Played:

Moon Safari - The Gettysburg Address   I didn't really want to like this one -- it's too happy, but like it I do.
RPWL - Beyond Man and Time   This one's on the must-buy list.
Aerosmith - Get a Grip   Played a couple of Aerosmith CDs I have but hadn't played in ages.  This is just a bad album. :P
Aerosmith - Permanent Vacation   This album has some good songs and some not so good songs.
Sugar - Copper Blue   This is a great album.  Not prog, however.
Jethro Tull - Thick As a Brick   *horns*
Jethro Tull - Minstrel in the Gallery
Jethro Tull - Songs From the Wood      Then I ordered a couple of bargain Tull CDs to fill in my "golden era" Tull collection.   ;D

NP: The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Electric Ladyland

Hope from the wasteland: I discovered a friend playing old Rush and admitting to liking Yes a lot.  Also, the better-known Pink Floyd.  We've agreed that I'll introduce him to some more prog (it would be nice to have someone to share this stuff with who doesn't live thousands of miles away).  Old Genesis, of course, and I think I might even take a shot at an Arena album.  Other suggestions for getting his feet wet without scaring him away?  I think I'd better wait on both flavors of DT.  Porcupine Tree is tempting, but that's a bit of an acquired taste, I think.  Maybe Riverside?

"What is that sound?  It's confusing, and boy is it loud!"

Iggy

NP Edenbridge - Solitaire.

I have purchased quite a lot of music recently and forgot I had this one.

Greenie, at this point I'd say: Get the first two MV albums, De-Loused in the Comatorium (that's Cedrish for ...  ;D ), and Francis the Mute. They'r both great, I can guarantee for that. And get into the lyrics too, requires some effort - obviously. These guys have experienced stuff, man  :o

Jethro Tull - Thick As a Brick   *horns*

That's a masterpiece  *horns*

I have it so much in my system that I can get the melodies running - just like that  8)

Gotta get some more Tull stuff .....

As he likes Floyd, I think that Riverside is a good choice. You'r right about PT being an acquired taste imo. And yes, wait with the two DT's - except for some really nice DrT songs from the early albums - but then again, you don't like Jamie's singin  ;)

Yes, Arena, certainly, particularly Contagion. If he gets hooked on that one, then it's cruising from then on. That's what happened to me  ;)

NP  Anubis Gate:  Purification

Their first studio album. I didnt like that one a year ago, when I first ran AG. But now  *horns*

Just goes to show: Good prog is an acquired taste - even for SP  ;)

Torben Askholm, who sings on Purification and The Perfect Forever (nb 2) is a great singer  8)

I agree with Contagion or The Visitor maybe for Arena.

How about Phideaux, Doomsday Afternoon or Number 7?

I've listened to it four times now, and I think it's great! *horns*

Today I also listened to Kate Bush's "Aerial", which is also really nice!
I'm now listening to Radiohead's "Kid A" which I like. 8)

I would suggest Magenta' Seven or Transatlantic's SPMT:e : two great examples of modern symphonic prog that should not leave him too confused.

NP Orphaned Land - Mabool
This one, I would not suggest for your friend but I am really impressed at first listen  *horns*

They'r pantheon with me cuz of this album  *horns*

Played:

The Ocean:  Heliocentric

Interesting lyrics, lotta Biblical stuff  8)

The music is metal with strings, quite special, bit like Therion, but heavier  :)

System of a Down:  Hypnotize

Havent been listening much to this band, and don't know yet what to think of'm. They'r very playful, which I like  8)

What's also amusing is that all their names end with "ian", as they'r of Armenian heritage  :)

Wonder if Ian was the father of all Armenians  ;D

Iced Earth:  Dystopia

First listen. IE have made some great albums, particularly the two Something Wicked cd's, and they are pantheon with me  *horns*

Today I played:

Arjen Anthony Lucassen's "Lost In The New Real"

On first listen: Arjen has done it again! It's unmistakably Lucassen and lots of Ayreonish sounds. I like it. Love Rutger Hauer's (Voight-Kampff ;D) input by the way.
