JP  Dream Theater:  When Dream And Day Unite

I'v long had a resistance to playing this album ... but now I have an entirely different attidude toward Charlie  ;)

I like the title, I'm into that stuff  8)

To me, the first two albums turned out to be the necessary trials for DT to reach their mature style with Awake, which has all the stuff that we love DT for  *horns*

I know I'm stepping on the toes of those diehard fans who hold I&W as sacrosanct by saying that, but I'm first and foremost a progmetalie - hm - or a metal proggie ... or prick moggie ... well, whatever  ;D

You know what, Tommy, this actually sounds a bit like SW and CM  ;)

Does it? I heard the second album of the trilogy some years ago but it didn't really grab me. To be honest I didn't give it much of a chance to grow either so I guess this is another album I need to revisit...

NP  Deathspell Omega:  The Shrine Of Mad Laughter

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDnwd9GLhe0

After having run this piece some 15 times, it's actually beginning to make some sense to me.

Probably the most impenetrable rock I'v ever heard. But really thrilling.

I quite agree with what General Zombie and Sterno write in their excellent long Amazon reviews of DsO's fourth full studio album "Fas - Ite, Maledicti, in Ignem Aeternum," which includes The Shrine, excerpts here (DsO's fifth studio album Paracletus is being released these days):

General Zombie (the West), May 21, 2009:

"Needless to say, this is not an accessible album, and even repeated listens may not reward you with a full sense of the structure. It is however, invariably striking, and most extreme metal fans will likely go away from the first listen impressed, even if they can't entirely recall what they just heard. This is my ideal tech/progressive effect: memorable enough to draw me from the first listen, but deep enough that it rewards numerous careful examinations. Even better, DsO are clearly now just hitting their stride, so we can likely look forward to more remarkable work from them."

Sterno (Little Rock, AR), September 4, 2007:

"In its execution, Fas - Ite, Maledicti, in Ignem Aeternum is jubilant and celebratory. It's crushing and evil. It's suffocating and dense. There are so many musical ideas thrown about that it's difficult to capture them all in one, or even several, listening sessions. Make no mistake - this is definitely black metal. The music contains the requisite tremolo riffing, hyper-kinetic blast-beast drumming, and scorched earth vocals that linger between a death metal growl and a traditional black metal screech. But there is so much more. The drummer flirts with jazz, psychedelia, thrash, doom, and a half dozen other styles, and masters them all. Mikko Aspa has one of the most distinct voices in metal. It's bombastic, scary, demonic, enunciated, and is instantly recognizable after just one listen. Hasjarl's guitar playing is also first rate. He peppers the tunes with shimmering, serpentine leads and light-speed riffing. His style is, at times, a black metal version of Joy Division - hovering beneath the melody, setting up the kill, waiting for the chance to attack. His inventiveness and technique are astonishing.

I must reiterate that Fas - Ite, Maledicti, in Ignem Aeternum is the finest, most impressive black metal release I've ever heard, and the best metal album in any genre I've acquired in the past decade. Deathspell Omega is quietly revolutionizing the Metal universe and I anticipate the third installment of the trilogy like I've anticipated nothing else in this style of music. I suggest you order this album immediately and see what metal can be. Deathspell Omega is the savior of black metal."

Highly recommended."

It's quite mixed, in fact the whole Trilogy is. Some of the declaratory parts (e.g. Nowhere To Hide) even sound rather krauty  :-\

But the riff starting at about 1:50 in The Monster is one of the catchiest I'v eva heard  *horns*

Hey guys, just a found a new progmetal band: Greyhaven. Cool stuff !

I'd be surprised if any of you know'm  ???

Here, try this:  www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwKwdHbD7ME&feature=related

Here's what Progarchives write about'm:

"This band is led my the monster synth work of Ethan Matthews. Hard prog band from the US with good musicianship making an intricate sound. Keyboards and guitar occupy the same amount of space in the music, and the vocals are softer than usual on heavier bands. Their music is wonderfully constructed, and lush beautiful melodies abound. Their sound range oscillates between neo-progressive à la IQ and hard progressive similar to Dream Theater, Eternity X and Fates Warning."

You're right, I didn't know them.

Sounds nice, a bit like DT during WDADU. Especially the singer reminds me of Dominici.
A little bit pretentious I think, considering what someone wrote underneath the video:

'Truly one of the greatest albums ever!!!'

NP: Transatlantic - Whirld Tour 2010

What a stunning document of a great tour. I'm happy I was able to attend my first Transatlantic-concert back in May. It was one of the best gigs I ever saw. Great songs, great atmosphere and it was all filmed for this brilliantly designed cd/DVD-set a few days later. 8) Also, Daniel Gildenlöw was 'only' a hired gun for the tour, but he is clearly having a great time, playing additional keys, guitar, percussion and singing backingvocals. Truly a gifted musician. *horns*

I found a video with album clips and pics on YouTube:

Made me even more eager to hear more  *horns*

In fact now I'm thinking Shadow Gallery, maybe even Arena (lotta great keyboard stuff)  8)

As the uploader dinkum93 writes: "Clips from the self-titled album of the criminally underrated band from the US, Greyhaven."

They seem to have made only that one self-titled album (in 2000), and then vanished into the blue  ???

I checked up on the musicians, and their names don't either ring a bell. Maybe they made this album on a break between high school and college/corporate world. Maybe one day they'l realise (with our help) that they made a great album ... and .....  ;)
