Hmm, I'd guess the sympathy part refers to Sympathy for the Devil (and hey, I'm American, but I'm not *that* evil  ;) ).  The horned one was the supposed tempter in snake form in Eden.  The exists part has me puzzled.  I suppose you could connect it to Eden by saying that it's an account of how we came to exist, but I feel like I'm stretching for that one.  Is this close to what you had in mind?
Huh  :o

Maybe I should have put the last (*) just after the word "version" ...

OK, so the album Holidays In Eden has been reissued in a 2 cd's version that includes two covers of a song entitled Sympathy which has this line in it "and sympathy is what we need my friends".

But forget it too ...  ;D

NP Blind Guardian - At The Edge Of Time

funkster

Blind Guardian for me as well  *horns*

Plus loads of Amorphis so a big thank you for Nicky in particular for mentioning them. What a superb band - a bit of Opeth , bit of Wolverine , a smidgeon of Katatonia mixed with a pinch of death metal et voila - Amorphis  ;)

How sweet you are, Bups  ;D

NP: Amorphis (songs on My Space)

Great to share this wonderful group with you guys  *horns*

It was actually Tom who brought Amorphis into the Room for good, but with such a "superb band", it's even an honor to second it  8)

And even for you to third it, Funkster  :)

Now I'm countin on you to join me in Priest adventure world  ;)  - that is: Priest and Glenn after Painkiller. I have to make this clear, as some Roomies (no names mentioned) have made it a point of honor to misunderstand me with this  ;D

losing Hackett may have cost them some of their complexity

I think that Mad (ups, name mentioned  ;D ) is very right here. With the departure of Peter Gabriel, Genesis lost a lotta their bite (similar to Fish's departure from Marillion), but as Hackett seems to have been the most progressive of the remaining four members, with his departure they gave up the progressive dimension (luckily gradually and not suddenly), and banked more and more on making hits.

Isnt that so, guys ?

I benefit a lot from your comments on the Genesis albums, as I never got into'm in the olden days, and I'm only now slowly doing so (in heavy competition with a lotta other great stuff these days)  ;D

As to the Stones vs. the Beatles ...

I agree with all that you'v written in that paragraph, Greenie, but all considered, arent The Beatles the greatest rock group of all times ?

I think so iac  :)

and I also like Meddle, but it's perhaps not as rich as the others.

Meddle has One Of These Days, which was a bomb that exploded in my life, and Echoes is a groundbreaking piece too  *horns*

Mixed by Steven Wilson, I see.  Not a bad sign.   :D

Nope  *horns*

JP  Porcupine Tree:    On the Sunday of Life...    Voyage 34: The Complete Trip    Up the Downstair

Three fine albums  8)  - and interesting in their own rights:

Sunday was SW's first album, recorded during 1988-91, and all the music was composed and played by him, apart from some drums.

"Most of the lyrics were written by Alan Duffy, a school friend with whom Steven Wilson had lost touch a few years before the album was released." - Wiki, On The Sunday ...

There are some fine songs on it, plus a lot of experimentation. As SW writes, PT could have gone other ways than they (he) actually did. Sunday gives an indication of the span that SW started out with (lotta Floyd-inspired stuff btw) and the different directions that he tried out initially.

A must-have for big PT-fans  ;)

"Voyage 34: The Complete Trip" is a more introverted album. It's about the effects of LSD. There's a guy who took LSD 33 times, and clicked outta it when he got enuff, but the 34st time, he just can't get out, and you follow his tribulation.

"The Complete Trip" is cuz the album is a compilation from several official studio albums - and it's of course a pun too (SW is full'o'm).

Interesting concept, but musically rather monotonous.

With Up The Downstair, SW got PT on the (right) track as we know'm: Lotta wonderful melody, lyrics, rhythms, and special PT twists and turns  *horns*

Still havent figured what "Porcupine Tree" means ... but maybe SW intended it to be ambiguous (and equivocal)  ;D

One meaning is "a joke that is too good to be funny" - Thomas Bambaataa Ghidrah Towers

NP  Mew:  No More Stories ... & ...

I'm surprised that I like it so much  8)

I rarely get properly gripped by indie, but I think that what does it for me with this album is that there's so much melody, catchy rhythms, lotta variation, and it's really well composed and produced.

I'l be back-cataloging with Mew for sure .....  :)

And it doesnt detract that they'r Danish

Interesting: "In 2009, the band supported Nine Inch Nails for various tour dates across Europe." - Wiki, Mew

Quite diff'ent bands, I'd say  ???

These guys are formidable ... just let that rest for a while ... ... and sooooo below the radar  :(

They don't have one Cloudscape album at Cop Main Library - while they have all sorta obscure stuff  :o

Rarely have I heard a bass and rhythm section so crisp and so slap in yer face as with Cloudscape - WOW  *horns*

And guess what: I'm gonna do mine to making the Cloudscape catalog a household article ... and as ya know: I don't let off .....  >:(

A title referring to the heart, if I don't mistake. Great album IMO.

Thanx, Funkie  :)

I'l sure be pursuing these guys  8)

Got'm in my "other groups" list and on my SL now  :)

Sorta Adagio meets Floyd, and certainly original in their own right. (I know that WHW are much older than Adagio.)

They should go well with Roomies  ;)

As I don't have a credit card these days, and I havent been able to find any of their albums at the libraries or cd-shops, I have to make do with their MySpace. Fortunately they got quite a lotta music there.

Tip: Go down to the last three songs on the MySpace list: Aqua 275, Under Fire, and Everyday Is Up To You - supersongs  *horns*

It's also a pretty decent album.
Funny thing is, that when you listen to the band without the knowledge that that certain very much discussed drummer is on it, you wouldn't spot it at all.
