A real Glenn Tipton classic 8)

You know, a trillion years ago (meaning: eighties, a bit in the nineties) there were three great guitar-tandems around.

1: Adrian Smith and Dave Murray of Iron Maiden
2: Jeff Haneman and Kerry King of Slayer and...
3: K.K. Downing and the aforementioned Glenn Tipton.

Every release that consisted of two guitarist would be compared with any of these three tandems.
There was no other way. That shows how much influence these guys had in the 'old days'.

I agree with you about Nostradamus because it is in no way a true Priest album. You call it prog, well I wouldn't go that far but they've indeed stepped away from the real Priest sound that they've made in the old days and in that way they did evolve.
You mean Nostradamus is prog in the vein of Maiden's Seventh Son ... ?

Best albums 'till date are State of Euphoria, Persistence of Time (with the brilliant cover of Joe Jackson's Got The Time) and Sound Of White Noise (with John Bush).

May I object that I prefer the original by far ?

NP Joe Jackson - Look Sharp !   ;)

Absolutely not because what I meant were two lead guitarists and let's face it: James is a rhythm guitarist. ;)
Nothing more, nothing less.  :)

Ah! I played that at work last week, it's still a fine album after 30 or so years.

Right, Mad, with the addition that Priest together with Zep were the pioneers of heavy metal in the 70's (some say also Sabbath, but they were never up in the same class), and that Glenn and K.K. are classes above Adrian and Dave. Maiden has always been a lesser Priest-clone, altho more popular than Priest; but that's the way it always goes: Quality is for the few !

Yeah, James is a rhythm guitarist, but also more than that: He's the genius of Metallica, and a totally unique and mysterious songwriter  *horns*

You Frenchies have a way of talk talk talk talk ..... instead of doin - like a French film is two hours of gabbering, and then suddenly during the last ten minutes the director remembers that there should be some action too, and then the ladies are duly screwed and the guys shot (not the other way round, cause that would be more like a Tobe Hooper film)  ;D

So, Bupie, if ya get yer hands on Nostradamus, you might find out what it's like: A unique, incomparable masterpiece  *horns*

Comparing it to an Iron Maiden album is like comparing Toto with Pet Shop Boys  ::)

The only sensible comparison of Nostra is with the prior Priest albums. Get into them, and you can see some of the ideas evolving. That's been a wonderful experience for me  8)

Seventh Wonder - [Mercy Falls #03] Welcome to Mercy Falls

Wow. Read the dprp review and amazon'd it right away ;)

These guys are really "refreshing", metal-wise, I'd say. I really like the vocals - which is a killer attribute for me any time! And they're absolutely brilliant music-wise. The keyboarder nonetheless, although he seems to use a certain sound scheme for "melody" playing, which could use a little revamping -imho- to fit the greatness of the album ;)
Arriving somewhere, but not here....

And the fact that he's finally discovered 'real' music.  ;D

Little joke from my side. ;)

A little use of the search function made me realize once more, that I'm too slow: the usual suspects (i.e. maddy, Nicky, PH and so... ) already have this album ;)

Hehe ;)

Actually, I've been really into prog metal stuff ever since I started listening to Ayreon, but few bands please my -dainty- ear. Most put me off due to the vocals. Many singers can actually sing, but haven't got a good voice, some distinctively misuse their voice or adjust their singing to sound more theatralic or whatever. I hate that. But that's my personal taste thingie :) Tommy really stands out in that area. Clear, broad range, "easy", nice to the ear, I just like it.

Oh, I forgot: one of the clear pluses of this album: the production is great, obviously not done in the "loudness race". Love audiophile ;)

We forgive you.  ;)

But...while you're at it you might as well want to check the other two albums out as well.
Both Become (with a different singer) and Waiting On The Wings are great albums to say the least.
Though Mercy Falls is a league of it's own.  ;)

Yep Mercy Falls is a great CD.

Coming from the man that pretended not to be interested in classic metal a few months ago, that is an unexpected advice  ;) I really have trouble with high-pitched, screaming type voices. That's what prevents me from enjoying such huge bands as Led Zep or Deep Purple. I also get often tired of a Fates Warning album before the end for the same reason. I couldn't enter into Helloween because of that.

So it's the same big problem for me when it comes to Judas Priest. But I'll try as I often do.
NP Arena - Contagion  *horns*

NP: Frost* - Milliontown

I've mostly been listening to music in my car lately, so it's been a steady diet of Phideaux with a smattering of Porcupine Tree and Yes.  Could be time to rotate in a new set of CDs.  ::)
