A very wistful song about the Spanish Civil War (in Swedish).

Brings back wonderful memories of my youth. These guys were always around when we held fests for the oppressed and persecuted.

You said "bongs", Cap ?  ;D

Won't complain about those  *horns*

NP  Pantommind:  Shade Of Fate

Bulgarian progmetal band, in league (both senses) with Circus Maximus and Seventh Wonder (Tom, Mad  ;) ), with some Balkan flavor  *horns*

Not quite pantheon imo with this first album from 2005, but Batman writes that their newly released (2009) album Lunasense is even better, so let's see (of tranquility) .....

The guys look like Dracula's paladins (the guitarist Peter Vichew could be Tom's vampire doppelgänger), but true proggies shouldnt get frightened by that  ;D

There's been a lot of good music arriving in the Sea Mammal Estuary lately, but at the moment, I think I'd say the same.  Stunning album.

NP UFO - Making Contact

I am still scrolling through UFO's impressive -by numbers and quality- back catalogue. I give a big thumb up to Chrysalis/EMI for all the recent reissues including valuable bonus tracks and riveting booklets with old photographs and stories about the recordings. It's really top notch quality work that you don't necessarily expect from music companies, especially when it's done for a band that has been out of the light for decades *horns*

Making Contact is an album without both Schenker and Way, the band is about to fall in pieces but the music is still surprisingly good ...

Borrowed some cd's at the library. Played:

Europe:  The Final Countdown

+ a few other songs from a greatest hits album, and read the cover notes about their history. Don't worry guys:  This is as much as I wanna know about Europe.

Heaven & Hell:  The Devil You Know

Not as good as I had expected  :(

There's a lotta hype about this album in metalworld. Well, when ya get Dio, Iommi, Geezer, and Vinny together, guess there's gotta be. Seemed to me basicly a rehash of Sabbath, and that great a singer Dio aint imo  :-\

Judas Priest:  Nostradamus

The latest album from Priest (2008), with Rob Halford on vocals, K. K. Downing and Glenn Tipton on guitars, Ian Hill on bass, Scott Travis on drums, and even Don Airey as guest on keys.

This album was a very positive surprise  *horns*

Till now, I had regarded Priest as a rather regular metal group (despite being based in the city of cities  ;D ). What I had heard earlier didnt really impress me.

However, with Nostradamus, they'v created a masterpiece !

Exciting story and lyrics, formidable delivery by Rob Halford, lotta melody and emotion, and of course top-notch musicianship  8)

The album reminds me of Iced Earth's Something Wicked epos, in scope and delivery, altho Nostradamus is surprisingly less heavy and more emotional. And Rob's singing is similar to Ripper's, which aint surprising, since they both have done Priest.

Guys, if ya want intelligent, melodic and emo metal  ;)

Not listened to Nostradamus , in fact i have not listened to Priest since Painkiller. Might have to give this a go.

I like The devil you know but not as much as Mob Rules and it is on a par with Death magic doom from Candlemass so high praise indeed  ;)

I am not surprised of your reaction since Nostradamus is described as close to prog metal by many reviews. I haven't heard a single note of it though ...

NP UFO - Misdemeanor

Wow, I think I finally found a bad UFO album  :( ... if it can really be seen as a UFO album considering the line-up !

For the anecdote, I read that UFO and Judas Priest never were close friends, nor friends at all, despite being studio neighbours occasionally.

NP: Transatlantic - The Whirlwind

I'm not feeling all that metallic lately.  Mostly I'm playing Phideaux, then one of my other recent acquisitions, then more Phideaux.  I rather like Phideaux.   ;D

I hadn't heard about this one. Is it basically a reunion of the Dio-era Sabbath?  I have the original Heaven and Hell on LP, and as I recall, it's rather good as Ozzyless Sabbath goes.  I tend to agree Dio isn't a superstar singer, although he can get the job done most of the time.

It's definitely progmetal, and it's great progmetal !

JP  Into Eternity:  Buried In Oblivion

Exciting band from Regina SK. Remind me most of Scar Symmetry, but less growly and heavy. Like SS, wonderful vocal harmonies, and excellent musicianship. Could easily become a Room fave  ;)

NP  3:  The End Is Begun

Super  *horns*

Greenie, you should try this band  ;)

Tom, they thank Dillinger Escape Plan in their cover notes, so maybe ...  ;)

That's my impression, altho I havent listened much to Sabbath since the 70's. Iac it sounded rather bland to me  :-\
