What do you think of that one?  It's always been my least favourite KB, although some days I just might plump for Aerial.

The Dreaming is, in fact, my favorite Kate Bush album.  It's weird in all sorts of fun ways, IMO.  I've actually only heard individual songs from her albums after Hounds of Love, not the full albums.  I should probably pick up the newer ones at some point, although I haven't been that thrilled by what I've heard.  It sounds as if she lost some of her playfulness  Similarly, I don't have the more recent Peter Gabriel albums, although I'm probably missing something good somewhere.  He seemed to be headed in directions I wasn't all that interested in, and I'd rather remember him as the titan he was.  At one point I was so obsessed with him that I actually bought the Against All Odds soundtrack just to get 'Walk Through the Fire'.   :o

Blimey!  ;)

I don't dislike The Dreaming, and I don't dislike Aerial, but I like the others more.  Especially Hounds, Never For Ever and Lionheart which are about as perfect as things get IMHO 8)

It's a bit sad, but we've got three copies of some KB albums here.  I had the original CDs, then I bought the 'This Woman's Work' boxed set just to get the 2 bonus discs, which gave me dupes of most of her back catalogue.  Then when I met SWMBO she came complete with the first three KBCDs at no extra charge! ;D

Curiouser and curiouser.  My next choice would be the early one you didn't mention -- The Kick Inside.  I've actually only done vinyl replacement on that and the Dreaming.  I would probably go for Never For Ever next.

Great album, and probably a classic by any definition. But I think the next two are a little more polished and have some of my favourite tracks on *horns*

Moving forward, Hounds is probably my overall fave, especially what was side 2 in vinyl days.  Over the years I've had:

  • Vinyl edition
  • Cassette edition
  • CD
  • CD dupe in the boxed set
  • EMI 100 edition CD with bonus tracks
While the industry may be concerned about revenue lost to pirates and downloaders, the likes of me must surely represent the other side of the coin ;D

In some ways, I think I like her better when she's not quite so polished, which is part of what I like in The Dreaming  -- it has some (intentionally) rough edges.  That's not the case though for the Big Reason for The Kick Inside, 'Wuthering Heights'.  Although it's probably the first song most people (perhaps not the young 'uns) heard from her, I think it will always remain her best.  It astonishes me every time I hear it, and IMO, even the majority of talented musicians never record its equal.  [end fanboy content]

Interesting.  The reason I favour that album less isn't because of 'rough edges' but simply that, for me, the songs don't quite have the same star quality of her other releases.  Purely a personal preference, of course, as your different take illustrates rather well.

Moving on, I was a great fan of the late Alan Murphy who played guitar during the Hounds era and is visible in at least one of the videos.  I saw him with Go West (don't laugh!) and he was excellent.  Sadly missed.

I guess I could skip the album title since there's only the one as far as I know.  If I listed a different album name just to be silly, I might give Tom a heart attack.    ;)

Of course, this song is brilliant. I also like the Pat Benatar cover very much, more in a rock style with a nice guitar solo. It is funny that, because of this cover, I always associate Pat and Kate although their respective styles could not be more different. But the two first Pat Benatar are really great IMHO and I play them on a regular basis (let's say a few times a year)  *horns*

I have to say that I lost totally interest in Kate's music after The Dreaming that rather disappointed me at the time of its release. And the single Running Up That Hill didn't encourage me to buy Hounds Of Love  :(  But it was in the 80's so maybe I would have a different perception now  ::)

NP Epica - 2 Meter Sessies

Listening to it in order to determine whether I retail it or not. I think I will do the same with my After Forever and Within Temptation cd's since they didn't really grip me so far ...

Interesting how opinions vary so markedly within a very small group of Arena fans with arguably similar tastes! ;D

True.  It's probably more accurate to say that we all have some points of intersection among our varied tastes (Arena obviously being one).  I respect Roomies' opinions enough that a recommendation from them will lead me to give something a listen, but I still need to hear it for myself before I decide whether it's something for me.

I, on the other hand, knew it existed but had been repressing the memory for years.  Now I'll have to start repressing it all over again!   ;D

We'll just pretend I'm playing the copy of Tick Tock that I can't find for sale.  I may have to do something drastic like buy it as an MP3 download, but I'd really prefer the CD.

You can buy the CD from the verglas store. It is a bit pricey though.
