Or else I'l try out an album by The Verve. Which one offers most to a metalhead ?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but my impression of The Verve is that they're not remotely metalish, so I'd say Slayer by deafault.

NP  Steve Winwood:  Nine Lives

Ms 007 kindly requested that I replace the Slayer album on my Walkman  ;D

I was actually also thinking about assembling my brain again  :D

I like Traffic a lot. Steve Winwood sings in a very special way that touches me quite. Nine Lives is from 2008. Nice to see that he's still into it. The voice is still in top shape, the music sounds similar. Let's see .....

Slayer by default because I believe they are undisputably metal, while The Verve is not metal at all.

Does Ms 007 hear your Walkman, or is she just concerned that Slayer will do you harm?

I'd advise against brain assembly unless it's absolutely necessary for fiscal reasons.  I've always found that my brain gives me more grief than about anything I could name.

I wasn't too thrilled by Traffic when I was on my original prog journey (roughly 28 years ago), but I've branched out quite a bit since then, so they're another band that probably warrants another listen.

NP:  Hum - You'd Prefer an Astronaut

Haven't played this in a long time.  Not sure what to expect, but there's some guitar, so it'll do.

OK, so you're actully advising me not to waste my time on The Verve (thus not saying that they're bad, just that they're probably nothin for Mr. 007) ?

Definitely the first, and probably the last too. Well, understandably: I myself aint either sure about whether Slayer might be shovin around some'o my brain cells  :o

But since we got guys in Afghanistan and other places riskin their lives protecting us against al-Qaeda and other wicked stuff, I'm willing to run the lesser risk of listenin to Slayer  :D

Actually even seriously, Yeah and Yay, considerin prog iac.

It's obvious that prog has affected my brain, cause I experience that some'o the things I say bewilder people, and give'm a bit different angle on things  :)

Not to overdo, of course. Many of the things I allow myself to say in the Room, I rarely say elsewhere, to the extent that some people even experience me as wallpaper - and with such people, I don't mind .....

I'd definitely say so. And I'd add that they probably grow with age (i.e. yours and mine, appealing to the 10% of our brains cells that have not been expropriated by metal)  ;D

Steve Winwood should not be missed  8)

Right, I only recall the one song, and I like it, but if you're only up for metalish stuff right now, they're not for you.

Ok, I've had enough Hum for now.

NP  Slayer:  God Hates Us All

Quite a noisy group  :o - but you can actually adapt to hearing what Tom Araya is singing, and I'm even beginning to hear some melody  :D

Noone else wants to take the jump ?

I am into Megadeth these days and I have serious fun (btw, didn't I notice that a member of one your favorite bands joined Megadeth recently ?). So Slayer could be the next step but I watched a few videos on Youtube and frankly I think it's too much noise and not enough melody for me  :P But a few weeks ago, I would never have believed that I could like Megadeth so everything is possible ...

NP John Wetton - Rock Of Faith

Since I'm alone with the little Louise, I need to play something mellow and this album fits perfectly : it's mellow to the core ...   :-X :)

I'm workin on it, Paxi.

Here's Wiki givin ya a starter (Wiki - Slayer): "Slayer is best known for speaking through perspective without being necessarily sympathetic to the cause of their inspiration. The band's lyrics and album art, which cover topics such as death, deviants, genocide, insanity, Nazism, necrophilia, religion, Satanism, serial killers, suicide, and warfare have generated album bans, delays, lawsuits and strong criticism from religious groups and the general public."

NP  Roger Waters:  In The Flesh  (live album, title track on repeat)

Then why did you find it such a problem that Opeth had that 'satanic' backwards-recorded message in the track 'Hessian Peel' on their latest album?

I think that one has to interpret Mikael Åkerfeldt's and Slayer's lyrics in different ways:  Mikael's lyrics seem to me to be guileless, and altho I myself am Christian, I'm willing to follow him when he expresses things in a pagan framework that isnt decidedly anti-Christian. When he recites "Out on the courtyard, Come back tonight. My sweet Satan, I see you," he oversteps that framework.

Otoh when Tom Araya sings "Got hates us all, He fuckin' hates me," you can't take it seriously, cause no rational human could mean that, no matter how atheistic s/he was, and the Slayer guys definitely are rational beings. So they must mean something else with it. I take it that it's a combination of their personal anger and their habit of provoking / making people think.
