Just finishing: Pink Floyd - Meddle.

Although pleasant enough, this has never been one of my favourite Floyd albums and is normally passed over in favour of the Dark Sides and Wish Yous when the Floydian urge is upon me.  But in recent years I've played it a little more often, encouraged no doubt by the Fish cover of 'Fearless' and Pure Reason Revolution's assimilation of the phrase 'A million bright ambassadors of morning' from 'Echoes'.

It's a decent album with one huge extraordinary track on it.

The Only one i seriously doubt is Pigs (Three Different Ones).
I somehow just can't seem to like it.

Yes, an awesome set of tunes including, for me at least, the mighty Pigs.

If I have one criticism it's that the production/sound quality lacks a little sparkle.  Only a little, mind you, nothing too serious.  But it's one reason why I often play Les Claypool's complete cover version on Live Frogs Set 2 - there's more impact even if it's not the original

Oh yes. Yes, yes, yes.  Classic band, why they're not the biggest thing on the planet I'll never know!

Funny you should mention Queen, the first track (Star) on the latest album (Saudades de Rock) sounds a little too like Queen for my liking.  The rest of the album is first rate, though.

Interesting thing about Extreme is I've thought they were equally awesome in huge venues (Birmingham NEC, when they were riding on the back of the atypicial 'More Than Words' single) and regular theatres (Wolverhampton Civic) after the 15 minutes of chart fame had passed.  Superbly tight bass & drums, one of the finest guitarists on the planet and a frontman up there with the best of them.  In fact, I think I'll play some Extreme next...

Extreme - Waiting for the Punchline.

As I mentioned in a previous post, this is The Big One for me, Extreme-wise.  Less funky, more bluesy, with a phenomenal live-band feel to it.  The bass-playing is particularly fine, IMHO, and the bass and guitar seem to be in tune with each other in a way that can't adequately be defined by just an oscilloscope.

Even their formation was artïstic (Wiki - Extreme (band)): "Extreme was formed in Malden, Massachusetts, in 1985. Vocalist Gary Cherone and drummer Paul Geary were in a band called The Dream. 'Extreme' is a derivation of Cherone and Geary's former band 'The Dream', meaning 'Ex-Dream'. Guitarist Nuno Bettencourt was in a band called Sinful, and bassist Pat Badger was playing with a Berklee-based outfit called In The Pink. Following an altercation between the rival groups over communal dressing rooms, the four decided to form a new band together."
