Saga - Full Circle.

Edit: I love the track 'Home' on this one, especially the way it starts off with some delicate acoustic guitar that could almost have been on Led Zepp III or IV.  Don't let that put you off if, like me, you're not a great Led Zepp fan  ;)

I must admit, the Ass Ponys could probably benefit from some Steven Wilson production.   ;D

Had to wiki them but it still leaves me none the wiser.

Neither do i.  ???

Must be an American thingy.  ;)

The Ass Ponys are indeed an American thingy.  The best description I can think of for them is 'trailer-park rock'.   I ran across this one while ripping a bunch of my older CDs to my computer and gave it a spin.  IMO they're pretty good but definitely not high art.  They are, however, funny in small doses (like Dread Zeppelin).   I particularly enjoy the song title 'Earth to Grandma'.  I had to go fishing for the album cover artwork on Amazon (a side-effect of using iTunes is that I'm not happy unless I can get a copy of the album cover for the visual display mode) and was astonished to find that someone had let them release another six albums or so.

NP: Frost* - Milliontown

* So different from the Ass Ponys that I have my doubts that they're from the same planet.  How nice of Frost* to come pre-asterisked for my footnoting convenience.    ;D

It is indeed a pleasure to see a band so customer-focussed.  And they're not called Fröst* so you haven't got to p*ss around with umlauts ;D

Very true, although the supergroup consisting of members of Frost* and Hüsker Dü, provisionally called 'Frözen Dü*', should prove interesting.   *horns* ;D

Further Frost* observation -- It certainly doesn't prevent me from enjoying the album, but, for me, Jem could've dispensed with all the spoken word/extraneous sound effects and I'd like it just a bit more.

With such collaborations, a lot depends on whether they evolve their own style or merely, erm, fall between two stools ;)

You are quite right there.  If they fail to mesh properly, they'll end up with just Dü*.   :P

Other than, ahem, 'breaking wind' it's the process of extracting music as digital files from physical media.  For example, creating mp3s from CDs, which is what I'm doing now.

Yeah, Duke was the last of the consistent classics for me.  Later stuff is not without it's high-points (especially on We Can't Dance) but for me the standard is lower on average.

I'm able to play and rip at the same time, although it does sometimes make iTunes miss a note here and there.

I seem to recall reading an article in National Geographic magazine many years ago in which it was reported that deep-fried Ratt was a delicacy in Cuba.  No info on whether Marmite was involved.

'Ripping' is recording music from CD onto your computer (for future convenience in playing it on your computer/organization).

IMO, Genesis essentially lost it after Wind and Wuthering, although I do like Duke, parts of And Then There Were Three, parts of Abacab, and the occasional song after that.  After W&W though, they were definitely heading down the road to pop.

NP: IQ - Two iffy-quality live tracks downloaded from their website/MySpace page/something-like-that.

First one is Came Down segued into The Wake, other one is Awake and Nervous.  Interesting how rough this sounds (wasn't intended to be an official release) considering how prog bands in general and IQ in particular are generally considered to be very tight in concert.  One is from a Christmas concert, so perhaps Peter had had a bit much of the spiked eggnog.  Still, it's a fun listen.

NP: IQ - The Seventh House - 6. Guiding Light

I owed this song a play from when I played the album last night but was too tired to listen to the end part.  Several reviews I've seen rate this album as inferior to the ones they recorded before and after, but I think it's excellent.   *horns*

Up Next: Killing Joke - Pandemonium

Another one I dug up during a ripping fest.

Update: This Killing Joke album is actually pretty good.  In fact, it's complex enough that I might call it prog metal (although I still don't really have a firm idea in my mind of what qualifies something as prog metal).

That last bit was a low blow.   >:(

OK, I give up, I'm going to Pandoraize Queensrÿche and see if I've been missing out.  Funny how some bands are more popular abroad than in their home countries.  My long-time impression of them was that they were more or less Night Ranger with one song that was trying to be Stairway to Heaven (which, oddly enough, although I'm a big Zep fan, was never a song I liked).   I'll give the lads a fair chance this time.  :)

Waning Notice - Currently ripping a vein of my old CDs that fall into the "Singer/Songwriter" category.  Those with an allergy to such are advised to keep to a safe distance.

Bullshit and tomfoolery, just admit it was the Guinness argument that volte-faced ya, Greenie  ;D

But admittedly Queensrÿche was a veeery slow burner with me  :-\

??? What's that song supposed to be ?  Can't think of any Q-song that sounds like Stairway.

And I never before heard the "one-hit-band" argument applied to Q. Doesnt make any sense at all  ::)
